    Great zoo. Food outrageously high
Was very happy it was free. We had 4 people with us. Only problem is the price of foods was way to expensive. 2 fries 2 hamburgers 2 drinks 2 cookies ended up being around fifty dollars. Next time eat outside of the zoo.

Great zoo. Entry fee is a donation. Animals appear well cared for and walking paths are kept clean. Love coming here. Always a must visit when in the area. Also has a beautiful playground for kids.

    Once in a lifetime....
Outstanding experience feeding the giraffes at the zoo! After buying a few reasonable priced tickets for the "Giraffe Encounter" at the Cape May Zoo, I didn't expect much but received an amazing gift! We had beautiful weather to meet thse majestic animals up close while feeding them sassafras leaves and learning all about their lives in the wild. Great job Cape May Zoo!

Parker says "Great zoo...and the admission is free"
This is a great zoo, with more attractions and animals than expected. Nicely laid out with easy viewing. And best of all, it's FREE (though you really should put some cash in the donation box, because this place is wonderful). Easy to get to...very crowded, but well worth it.

    Crowded but best NJ zoo
While there were several empty or “under construction” displays, you’re just not going to find more species in one place than here in NJ. It’s free, but don’t be a freeloading slimeball—put in a domination upon entering the parking lot! Just with the sheer volume of people visiting here, plan on at least a 90 minute visit. There were several docents stationed indifferent areas to give mini-lectures about features and skeleton replicas for children and adults to learn about the animals in the nearby exhibits. We saw at least 30 species in an hour and a half, probably closer to 36. Not sure where they get the “550 animals representing 250 species” numbers from…nowhere near that is on display, but anyway…

    Beautiful!
Beautiful place, tons to see and no charge just a donation. It’s huge, and has an adventure zip line for more adventurous people. Make sure you bring water and snacks for the kids, it can be hot and humid in the summer. They do have a cafe if you don’t want to bring your own.

    Good park for kids
A good place to visit when visiting Cape May . Cant believe this zoo is free … we actually didn’t plan to go to zoo, but when we went to tree to tree adventure, and it was in the same place as the zoo. Kids wanted to see the animals and since it was free , we just went in. Good collection of animals . We liked the birds 🦅 and few other animals .. kids were able to feed farm animals etc. food inside was ok, and expensive too. Had a good time inside .. parking outside was a bit crazy ! We had to walk a long way from the parking to the entrance .

Hard to believe it is free!
Lovely visit to the Cape May Zoo. Free admission (no tickets or reservations required) to the zoo but donations are accepted. Great zoo, especially given the free admission. Lots of animals and exhibits to see. The reptile house was particularly interesting. There was a crowd on a Friday afternoon but it wasn't overcrowded...more than enough space to view the animals and exhibits an maneuver strollers, if needed. There is a zoo cafe which has some reasonably-priced food options ($8 burger/personal pizza). There are a few gift shops as well. There is a large and free parking lot the zoo shares with the surrounding park. The park also contains tree top/zipline activities...so be sure to plan this into your day if you want.

My mom and I visited during our stay in Cape May. It was a cute zoo, very well maintained. Unfortunately, it was really hot the day we went so most of the animals were lying in the shade or inside their indoor enclosures to escape the sun. Therefore, we didn’t get to see a lot of the animals we would have liked to see. Overall it was a nice day out. The zoo is free but accepts donations in lieu of an entrance fee.

Our family enjoyed the zoo and park playground for a morning activity. The zoo is smaller than others we go to but the value was great (free/ encouraging donations). They have a good variety and number of animals (lions, giraffes, and bears.. oh my). I would recommend the zoo for a fun morning activity.

I like this zoo a lot. I have been there more than once. Unfortunately, yesterday's visit was marred by inconsiderate rude guests.

The zoo has a mask rule. However, at least 50 percent of the people took them off as soon as they were past the gate. I was surrounded more than once by groups of people without masks, crowding pavilions and observation points = no masks, no social distancing.

We cut our visit short. I asked at the gate - the attendant said there was nothing the zoo could do if people weren't wering masks.

This was the first time that I have been back to the Cape May Zoo since 2019 (pre-COVID) and it was also a nice day. The first time that I went it was pouring the whole day and it stopped long enough for me to walk the grounds of the zoo before it started to pour again.

It was a bright and sunny day when I went, and the place was packed with families. It was NJ State Firemen's Convention Weekend and people were looking for things to do with their families. The kids were running all over the place and the animals looked so tired from the heat. A lot of them were sleeping when I toured the zoo maybe because they are not used to this type of weather.

The zoo is nicely set up and the exhibitions with the reptiles, small monkeys and smaller birds are really nice and the animals have a place to roam with plenty of space, but I always feel for the giraffes, lions, bison and other larger animals because they do not have the space to roam where they need to. It's not that they are not treated well, they are probably treated like kings, but they look bored.

The zoo does their best to accommodate their residents and trust me everyone at the zoo is there to help. There are all sorts of talks going on, tours to take and they have a nice restaurant and gift shop, a little pricey but still nice. I heard a very nice conversation on the red panda who was a resident of the zoo right now.

It is a nice day out on a sunny afternoon and the best is that entrance is by donation only so try to help.

We planned to come here during our week at the shore on the day with rain in the forecast. When it started to rain heavily on our way there, we feared that it our half hour drive was for naught. Fortunately, the rain lightened up and we actually had a really pleasant visit. The lion and lioness came right up to the edge of the glass, as if posing for visitors. Perhaps the rain even brought out the animals more than usual?

We visited here recently, three adults and three kids. The zoo is a short distance from the Parkway and both parking and admission are free. There are also picnic tables near the parking.

There are some excellent exhibits here, especially considering the price. Of note, also, is the elevated walkway through several exhibits which allows for better views of the animals. This zoo is definitely worth a visit.

We had a great time at the zoo. Although the zoo is technically free, they do ask for a donation when you arrive, which we gladly gave a few dollars. Parking was also free. I recommend arriving as early as possible. It fills up pretty fast. Overall it seemed well kept. Lots of different animals to check out. They have a nice souvenir shop at the entrance and food/drink stands throughout. You can easily spend an hour or two walking around so wear comfortable shoes. Only thing I didn’t like were the people at the front entrance. They didn’t even acknowledge you when you arrived. Not very friendly, but we still had a good time.

My husband, 6-year-old, and I spent five hours at this zoo/park, and it was a highlight of our trip to Cape May. The zoo is part of a beautiful large park that offers trails, zip lines, shaded picnic pavilions, plenty of parking, and a fantastic playground. This zoo is better than Philadelphia, and we couldn't believe it was free/donations. Everything was very clean, the staff was helpful and friendly, and the impressive variety of animals had nice habitats. Best of all, on a hot summer day, there were plenty of shady places like elevated boardwalks through the woods, so we weren't in the sun on hot pavement all day.
Take some quarters if you want to buy food to feed the goats. It was an easy walk back to the car and pavilions for our picnic lunch, and then back into the zoo. There were some snack bars with junk food; I'm glad we packed.
If you have young children, or you enjoy nature and animals, this is a fun and affordable way to spend a good part of the day.

A complete surprise! A free park with gorgeous facilities and an amazingly high quality zoo. There are elevated walkways through the African safari area which provide a great view of the animals. The zoo was arranged to allow for only one way foot traffic and everyone was masked. It felt very safe and made for a great afternoon away from the beach.

The outing to the zoo with the family was very nice. They have a very organized parking system, easily understood paths, nice maps, good signage and most importantly, excellent facilities for the animals. The zoo aspect is excellent.

To explain my title, there were many people walking around without masks and I saw little enforcement from zoo employees telling people to wear them. Coming from Northern Jersey, where mask usage is very much non-optional, it was surprised how lax some people were at the zoo. I think the employees need to be deputized and allow them to enforce the zoos policies, which are clearly marked by signage (see my pics) throughout the entire facility.
