About
Nestled in New Jersey’s southernmost point, Cape May is one of America’s oldest seaside resorts and a popular summer getaway. Its beach, running parallel to Beach Avenue, draws travelers for its unobstructed Atlantic Ocean views, lined with ornate Victorian mansions, and bustling shops and eateries. During peak season from Memorial Day through summer, you will need a beach tag to enter, which can be purchased at the beach entrance or City Hall. You can get a daily tag or a seasonal tag, and they serve as great souvenirs for your visit, too. Explore the rest of Cape May on a guided trolley tour and learn more about the backstories of this historic area. – Tripadvisor

    What a surprise!
My wife and I live in North Carolina and frequent the South Carolina beaches often. We were in NJ for family wedding and went to Cape May following the wedding. We loved the beach at Cape May. It is so much nicer and larger than the beaches in South Carolina. They are much wider and cleaner. Plus, even though it was July 4th we never felt crowded. We hope to return next year, if at all possible.

Beautiful celebration for the Fourth of July!
We travel her every Fourth of July for the fireworks! What’s better than ice cream at the Jersey shore and fireworks while sitting on the beach? Families, couples and young adults make this yearly pilgrimage to enjoy a beautiful and relaxing day in Cape May.

    Nice vacation spot
Cape May is beautiful, clean, not roudy. There are beautiful Victorian style b&b, wonderful clean hotels, great restaurants. The beach is beautiful. This is our 2nd time there we will definitely be back. We went in July both times, and will return.

    SOOO GOOD!
We have been going to Cape May, NJ for over 30 years or more. We love the Victorian Motel which is just at the end of the Victorian Mall (across from Congress Hall). It is close to the beautiful homes which we take walks to see. The Mall has some nice shops and prices are good after Labor Day (Sept). Also the restaurants (especially) Uncle Bill's pancake house and others located in the Mall. We will being going back again with our family in Sept of 2024. Our family (older children) has also grown fond of Cape May and look forward to being there this year. ENJOY!

    Pristine beauty with luxurious accommodations
Cape May is the last beach town on the Southern Jersey shore and probably the one of the most expensive to stay in because of it's beautiful beaches, luxurious hotels and quaint shops in town. I have only been to Cape May twice as it is a distance from some of the other more affordable beach towns. The Cape May ferry leads to the Delaware Beaches, a must see.

If you like drugs and trash on your beach, this place is for you! If you love to pay $8 EACH PERSON for a PUBLIC beach, it's just great! Someone is raking in the cash on this deal. You pay to park also- 25c for 10 minutes...yes, 10 minutes. This city is basically taking money from the people who support them. I don't know what happened but someone decided they didn't want to pay their fair share in taxes so they put them on the tourists. Or, covid hit them hard and now they're attempting to recoup the losses. Whatever the issue (having grown up in a popular beach town and having visited many beaches from FL to CA) this place sucks. There's a lot of traffic, rude people, trash, addicts, loud noises, strange poo smells wafting about. There are plenty of better beaches to visit, just drive a little more, it will be worth it.

People drinking and wearing their underwear instead of bathing suits was an extra special touch. Lots of loud music, no lifeguards and what seemed like miles to the nearest bathroom. That's what you get for $8, folks. You can do better. One of the only positives- every restaurant we ate in had great food.

I do enjoy coming all the way after 3.5 hours of long drive.
Beach is nicely kept on clean condition and of course, right now, everyone is so keen on social distancing.
No crazy party people are around- very quiet - sometimes hear kids giggling or quietly chatting and mostly the sound of waves ... unlike other beaches.
People here keep well mannered and respect each other’s privacy very well, which is amazing and I would like this beach keeps like that going forward as well.

Bring quarters to park you car. 25 cents buys 10 minutes. Know how to parallel park. Watch for the influx of pedestrian traffic. Some of the port-a-potties have been placed on the street. The doors open towards the busy road. So, be careful. Stay off of the dunes. Read the rules before you go. Walk along the beach, or sit on the bench. Have a good time.

Clean beaches, easily accessible from various areas in Cape May. A lot of the B&B locations are within a short to reasonable walk to the beach areas. The beaches are clean and, based on your location, provide plenty of areas to swim within eyesight of life guards. There is a cost of $6 pp per day or $15 for a 3-day pass.

We visited during the week and it was perfect. The beaches are big, well maintained, and quiet. If you go down to the south end of Beach Ave you have views of the lighthouse. There are plenty of comfort stations with restrooms, snack stands, and beach rentals all along Beach Ave. Parking is Street parking and most spots are metered. You can download the Park Mobile app to pay via your phone and add time to the meter without leaving your beach chair.

The sand is soft and relatively wide and there’s plenty of life guard stations and other devices like bathrooms and chair rentals. Even though we were here in a weekend it never felt overly crowded. Definitely a great choice. There’s a small entrance fee but it’s worth it.

Super torn here. The beach was gorgeous and almost empty, even in July, parking was easy, and we didn't have to far to walk.

But as a Floridian who's lived near some of the most beautiful beaches in the country, I just can't get over charging people to visit. Even our local national seashore only charges per car what Cape May charges per person. For brown sand.

Glad I visited, but it's not a place I'd intentionally vacation.

What I saw of the beach was attractive but I find it outrageous that there are fees to walk on the beach. I have been to beaches all over the world and have never been asked to pay just to walk on the beach. Also no lifeguard on duty on a weekend afternoon. What on earth are people paying fees for? I don't want to hear clean beaches because I've seen clean beaches in Hawaii, California, Caribbean and they didn't shake people down for money. I will say the gatekeepers are very polite but the fact that they ask for money turned me off the whole experience.

Cape May has a very strong energy in the air, due to being at the bottom of the state. Please everyone contact the City officials to enact a ban on horse carriages and instead implement electric ones. Thank you very much. Look up these models.

The beach was nice and although I didn't go in the water, I stood up to my ankles and got accustomed to the temp so that if I wanted to, I could make it in. There are a lot of places to stay in the area and some are only a block or two from the beach which is nice. Check with the hotel or inn to see if they give beach tags otherwise there is a fee upon entry to the beach...I think it was $6 for the day.
