- DonnaCCollingswood, New Jersey6 contributionsQuiet Beach TownI stayed for a week of perfect weather at a little B&B adjacent to an award winning garden path leading to the dunes and wide sandy beach. It is a quiet residential island with restaurants, beach bars and convenience stores. The town is a 5 minute drive over a bay bridge to Atlantic City hotels, casinos and upscale outlet shopping. It is an easy drive from Philadelphia via the Atlantic City Expressway.Visited June 2020Traveled soloWritten July 12, 2020
- marie4899New Jersey57 contributionsAwesomeLove this beach. It’s clean and more chill then AC. Lifeguards are actually watching the ocean and not their phones! I saw them go in twice to help people! It was rough waters from a storm the night before. There’s also a beach bar / restaurant on this beach.Visited June 2020Written July 11, 2020

I thought it was odd paying for beach access, but after going on the beach, you realize it is well taken care of. - Cheri DYardville, New Jersey415 contributionsBeautiful beachNice beach and right across the inlet from Atlantic City so that there is plenty to do in the area. Several restaurants remain open after the summer season. Nice and quiet in the offseason. I have taken two day trips in about the last 6 months, most recently on a cold winter day. It definitely was not beach weather, but that's not what I came for on the last two trips. Brigantine is a great birding spot for birders. Shorebirds abound and during the winter months, there are plenty of ducks to see along the inlet and looping around to the bay area, easily navigable in the offseason, but not so in season.Visited February 2020Written February 29, 2020

Downfall: green-head flies were brutal. You have to pay careful attention to the direction of the wind because these flies can make a day in Brigantine miserable. We only tried the natural sprays, but was told that Off with Deet works best? (We didn’t try it). Ocean City, NJ day retreat was a welcomed dose of excitement for kids.Visited July 2021Traveled with familyWritten July 28, 2021

Not a long walk from road to water, and typical north atlantic black sand. We had an usual warm day in January to enjoy a long walk on the beach. The Brigantine Island is only about 15-20 minutes away from AC. The beach was very clean with clearly indicated area for swimming and a lifeguard on duty. The water was a bit cold. But there were so many locals on the beach even on Wednesday’s afternoon. Highly recommend this beach and Brigantine Island!Visited August 2022Traveled with friendsWritten September 1, 2022

EVERYONE much prefers this beach: soooo much more open space, never got crowded, water was more clear. Also, much more family friendly beachwear. And, while beach tags are required, their approach is friendlier and easier on the pocketbook, being free for veterans and seniors.Visited August 2021Traveled with familyWritten August 3, 2021

We arrived on Sat the 18th. We were a few houses up from the beach but the trip to the ocean was far. Thrilled we had our son's beach buggy for the walk. For the next 6 days we had beautiful weather in and out of the water. Plenty of room to feel secure in our space. We were on 37th street all week and had NO greenheads. The week was perfect. We enjoyed the water everyday...could have floated all day Mon and Tues. Until next year...

While on a trip to visit friends in the Atlantic City area, we checked out Brigantine Beach on a summer-like day in October. After riding up and down the island to get a feel for it, we parked in a lot east of Ocean Ave between 26th and 27th streets.
There are long paths going through the dunes from each end of the parking lot to the beach. The beach is at least 100 yards wide from the edge of the dunes to the water in this area, and the shoreline seems to extend for miles in each direction. There was no one there when we arrived.
We found a nice spot away from the paths that lead to the beach, and we stripped down. I always go topless at the beach and both my husband and I normally wear g-string swimsuits. However, given the solitude and expansiveness of the beach, we decided to go nude, which is our true preference, although not often feasible.
It was fabulous. We could see people and a few vehicles on the beach in the distance in both directions, but they were quite far away. We took long walks without a care. The water was warm enough for swimming, and the breeze dried us off quickly.
The second time when we came back from a walk, there was a couple in their thirties with a toddler set up quite close to our blanket. The little girl was naked, but the parents had swimsuits on – a g-string bikini on her and a thong on him. Upon seeing us, the mother approached and, instead of raising an objection, asked if this was an official or at least commonly-accepted clothing-optional beach.
It turned out that the family was from North Carolina and accustomed to going nude on remote sections of beaches on the Outer Banks. I said that I didn't know whether nudity was allowed officially or in practice, but explained that we had been there for more than two hours without negative consequences. After our chat, she returned to her husband and daughter, and the adults removed their swimsuits.
Later, I offered to entertain the daughter so the parents could have some alone time. The little girl was very affable and eager to have someone else to play with. We’re planning to have kids at some point (I’m only 28), so this was an opportunity to see what it might be like, if only for 30-45 minutes. I had fun, and my husband seemed to enjoy it as well.
In the afternoon, a few more people showed up on the beach. Everyone seemed to be of retirement age. No one came close to our little nude section, but they certainly must have seen that none of us was wearing anything when we went back and forth to the water. If Brigantine Beach is clothing-optional or at least topless all summer, it must be awesome!

I have seen conflicting information if there is a fee to use the beach and/or for parking/beach tags. Can anyone confirm?

You do need a beach badge per person. You can buy them at several locations including from the badge patrol. Mine were provided by my B&B hosts. There is free parking throughout town, but some beach parking lots charge. Hope this was helpful. 🏖
Do we need a parking permit and beach badges after Labor Day? We will be visiting the Brigantine during the week of September 7 - 14.

No need for badges for people on the beach. But if you plan to take your vehicle on the designated beaches, you must buy a permit which is good through December. Street parking does not require a permit after Labor Day.

I’m thinking of moving to Brigantine but have heard that there are a lot of Green Heads there. I like the north end but I’m worried about the nature preserve there providing a nice breeding ground for them. How bad are the Green heads?

I live on Ocean Ave near 10th street and in five years have never seen a Greenhead there. We looked at houses on the Bayside by the golf course and we were swarmed by Greenheads (stopped looking on that side!). I've also gone to the north end Observation deck and been swarmed by Greenheads there. My understanding is it's only a few weeks per summer but if you have children or a dog to walk those could be long weeks! Be careful where you end up and you'll never regret getting a house here!

Can anyone tell me at which street it starts?

Yes, on 14th street there are porta Johns at the entrance to the beach. On 16th street (the parking lot) there is a much nicer trailer with bathrooms. Not sure if any other locations, we go to the beach at 16th; because they have outdoor showers and hoses for feet.

I was there mid-July and we didn’t see any at all except for one day, and even on that day they weren’t bothersome.
