Wonderful walking tour of the Iron works
Grace Lord Park is one of the most underrated little parks that I have been to in a long time. It is such a beautiful park full of paths along the Rockaway River with a beautiful set of falls and rock formation and paths to visit. We took a walking tour of the old Iron Works with the Boonton Historical Society and we walked through this amazing park on our way to the old ruins of the factory. It had some amazing views from the pathways of the river and falls that I never would have known that they were here if I had not been on the tour. It was such an important park of our manufacturing past. After the tour was over I was able to visit the playground and the dammed part of the park. It is the perfect picture taking place to visit. Don't miss this little park when visiting Boonton,NJ.

Nice day for a walk in the park
It’s been a while since my wife and I last walked the path in Grace Lord Park to see the falls along the Rockaway River. The summer has been dry so the falls were not as dramatic as after a rain storm, but still a beautiful area. We enjoyed our morning walk in the park.

Came To Check Out the Falls.
Within Grace Lord Park you'll find Booton Falls. I have lived in NJ for the majority of my life and never knew this falls existed until last Summer. The park is on a main drag near the heart of town. There really isn't any parking in close proximity. I parked on a side street several blocks away my first visit. However my recent trip I was able to park on Essex Ave maybe 50 yards from the park entrance. There is a playground for kids, as well as benches and a gazebo with a pretty nice view of the water. There isn't really a great view of the falls from the top. I climbed down some rocks to get the views I did from both sides. Pity there's not a path that you can get a nice view if you're disabled or physically challenged. There are some nice views. Especially after a recent rain.

    Beware of parking ticket
We visited the Grace Lord Park on 4th of July with another family. We found a parking spot on Northside of W Main Street along with 10-12 other cars. There were no sign or marking on the street. After we took few photos of the Grace Lord park entrance, we saw 2 local Police vehicles double parked along with all those parked vehicle. I walked back to my car and asked the officer about parking. He stated you can not park here because the yellow marking ( the paint on the curb was totally faded already). So I moved my vehicle in front of the BP Gas station where there are no marking. Then the second officer advised me I should park on the side street. So I complied and parked on Essex Street. Luckily I was not inside the park, else , I may it received a parking ticket, SO BEWARE ! DO NOT PARK on W Main Street. The park walking trail was pretty short and the waterfall view was ok ( you need to climb some rocks and walk a steep slope to see the waterfall ). There are few spots in this park I don't feel so safe ( behind a warehouse). If you need to drive more than 40 minutes to this park, it's not worth it.

    More For It's Historical Significance
Grace Lord Park is a small oasis in Boonton. The park features a small new children's play area , a gazebo and benches. A magnificent water fall with a 20' drop is the highlight of the landscape. From the children's play area located at the junction of Essex Avenue and West Main Street, a one mile foot path takes you along the Rockaway river and eventually ends at a modern industrial complex. Parking is along the street. Along the way you will notice a stone wall which was constructed when the area was part of the 1831 Morris Canal. Also along the foot path are the remains of furnace arches dating back to the 1747 when the iron industry was the dominant economic engine. The iron industry in Boonton contributed axes, kettles, horseshoes, dishware and other items to the R4evolutionary War effort. A picturesque stone arched bridge can be seen about a half way down the foot path. Washington rock, a large glacial irradic sits near the bridge. While visiting Grace Lord Park, the town of Boonton, has plenty to offer with it's many shops and restaurants, historical buildings. The Historical Octagon House is on the National Registry.

    Such a Soothing Park
This is a very soothing Park with a children’s playground, a fountain, a pretty Gazebo, several waterfalls with water swirling and cascading over rocks, plus shady hiking paths with a pretty Stone Bridge. The Park was a visual and auditory treat for us since the Rockaway River was full of water from the recent rains, and was running fast and furious, with a thunderous roar, down a 25 foot drop and a slope over huge rocks. The hiking path over the bridge gave us awesome views of the cascading water. Once we crossed the bridge, we saw a huge “bear-like” boulder called the “Washington Rock”. We also saw remnants of a wall of stone arches that apparently were giant iron furnaces in the good old days. The Park is a short distance from Main Street where we had primarily come to view the lovely Exhibit about the “Dog Days of Summer” and featured over a hundred painted dogs and cats which are lined all along Main Street. We were lucky to have had a great summer day with low humidity, so we walked twice around the sparsely-crowded park to get a good enough exercise. A word of caution: If you are allergic to poison ivy, please stay away from the edge of the paths near the fences, and in the rocky paths down to the waterfall. There is an abundant amount of Poison Ivy growing wild everywhere. The Park is only about a mile off Exit 44 on 287 N, so it was a very convenient drive for us. Recommend a visit.

    Beautiful spot for pictures
It's beautiful small park with trails that go along the river. It has a Gazebo and a children's park. You just have to watch the children from getting too close to the river.

    Historic ruins and Boonton Falls
This small oasis situated in downtown Boonton is a worthwhile stop for the falls alone. This was the location of a 19th century iron plant that was destroyed by fire around the turn of the 20th century. Evidence of this fire is everywhere with giant chunks of melted glass and brick. Not much remains of the iron factory other than a few tunnels in the side of a hill and some piles of charred rubble. The trail that brings you to the falls is overgrown and chock full of poison ivy, but if you can brave that you will be rewarded with an outstanding view of the falls. Washington Rock is a huge rock formation that is fun to climb. Kids will have a blast climbing to the top. The Rockaway River runs through a ravine in the park and provides excellent trout fishing during the spring and fall stocking seasons and smallmouth bass and sunfish can be found in it year round. Anglers will find steep banks littered with jagged industrial ruins. The southwest end of the park has the well preserved remains of a 19th century railroad turntable, along with an abandoned RR bridge that unfortunately has recently been fenced off. Those with an appreciation of our industrial heritage may find this park interesting. There is so much potential here, but the park needs work.

I’ve lived in this area for many years and drive by this park nearly every day... and I finally took the time to walk this little gem.
With the tremendous amounts of rain we’ve had lately the river was roaring. So that was a nice addition to the falls, etc
As you walk through Grace Lord Park, make sure you take the time to read the plaque noted to the namesake.
There is a huge gazebo, a playground and plenty of space to hang out.
On the street side of the park, there is a new viewing platform which is very nice.
You can walk along a nice path alongside the river. There are a few breaks in the fence next to the water and there are a few emergency call boxes posted nearby. This river is quite dangerous so please be careful.
There’s a walkway that crosses the bridge and takes you deep and low behind Main Street. This is a great gentle walk that bring you to Plane street, which you can either walk up the steep hill back towards the park or continue walking to the right which will bring you to the base of Main Street.
This nice walk will take you passed the many shoppes and restaurants of Boonton.
I would NOT walk the lower section of the park alone. There are stone tunnel entrances- that are intriguing but definitely sketchy.

Enjoy!

I am a frequent lone traveler who frequently rely on public transportations to get around my destinations. I am currently staying at a hotel in Parsippany and I took an uber to the Grace Lord Park. The ride took no longer than 10 minutes to get there - the entrance is literally a small playground, and there's a sign that says, "Grace Lord Park." It was snowing when I visited the park and I really really really enjoyed it. Very easy walking trail, the watefall is not that far from the entrance. As you walk in, you'll see two split. The one of the right is closed off. Follow the path on your left and you'll cross a bridge that connects you to the other side of the trail. When you get off the bridge, you'll see a small mountain of rocks. Make a slight right away from the rocks, follow the path down - you can still enjoy the surrounding view.
nearby attraction - if you're a walker like me, you can walk from the park to Main street, there you can check out Boonton's historic marks like, the Boonton Homles library, The Darress Theatre and Cornelia street of two only octagon houses in Morris county!
