We did 2 trips over the Labor Weekend with my 2 sets of grandsons, my son in law, my cousin and my brother in law, Weather was spectacular as was the fishing both days! Capt. Alan took us out on Saturday with crew of John, Rich, Winston, and Lucas. These guys are the best in Belmar!! Totally helpful with the gear, bait & tackle, and teaching the kids the ropes. From reel tangles to line tangles they handled it all with patience and good humor(John &Rich) on a full boat of 60 + anglers.
All was delivered as described on the website and I highly recommend the boat for fisherman of all levels. My gang will back for stripers after Halloween see you guys then!

I received a 4 hour trip for 2 as a birthday gift a year ago.
Everyone had been busy & couldn't get a trip scheduled until about 3 days before they stopped running the half day trips.
Naturally, the day of our trip a storm came in and we were cancelled.
The last trips of the season were already sold out,so they actually set me up so I could just rebook the trip when they started up again this season.
The only drawback was in the meantime the state changed the regulations on seabass, fuel prices went nuts, and the Princess was not running half day trips this year.
But they booked me on the Royal Miss Belmar instead for a 4 hour trip.
I believe it was my first time on that boat.
And I was pleasantly surprised.
The captain was a good guy with lots of great stories to tell when he wasn't driving around looking for fish.
The fish were less than cooperative but I can't blame anyone but the fish for that.
I usually go on the 7 hour trip which I would have preferred yesterday since they were fishing for blues, and the blues have been more cooperative than the seabass lately.
But it was still a great day & far better than going to work.
I would definitely recommend the Royal Miss Belmar for a half day trip. But also, check the reports before you decide what to go for.
They bust their butts to put you on fish. But if the fish don't want to bite the crew can't put them on your lines for you.

We decided to try their Jazz cruise over the weekend. What a fun night. Great music great weather great staff. Lots of hand sanitizing stations and masks must be worn to board the boat. Will definitely do it again. Having said all this? Belmar needs to work on their parking. The parking lot was absolutely jampacked there was no where to park. We ended up in the trailer parking lot. We figured we would be OK since it was 7 o’clock at night. And clearly there were other cars doing the same thing. We were the last ones to board. Captain actually called my cell phone looking for us as we were running through the parking lot. Only to get back at 10 o’clock and find a $45 ticket on our windshield. Not cool. What were we supposed to do? There are so many restaurants and eateries and now these evening boat trips? There’s not sufficient parking. They need to waive the trailer lot rule at least on Saturday nights with events like this. Especially in these times of Covid. We need to bring back our economy. Ticketing your tourist industry is not the answer. But none of this should reflect on the Royal Princess. We have fished on the boats as well for years. Always a good time. Mates and Capt are top shelf!

This was my first time on this trip, and I must say, I was deeply saddened, and disappointed. I chose this event because they stated their COVID-19 guidelines on their website, specifically the following, that they would be adhering to to keep everyone safe:

1) Everyone must wear a face covering/mask and gloves on all of our trips.
2) Social distancing of 6 feet apart from each other must be adhered to at all times

First off, the boat was packed. My girlfriend and I took up space at the rear of the boat. We were literally sandwiched between someone who absolutely could not stop smoking cigarettes, while the ash kept blowing in our faces, and someone who absolutely could not stop complaining about the fishing spots the boats would stop at. Again, no one wore masks. Correction, with the exception of my girlfriend and I, there were 2 other female passengers who wore masks. And no one wore gloves. In fact, you know it's bad when my girlfriend was asked why SHE was even wearing a mask. Seriously??

Social Distancing? Non-existent! People were lined up side by side, no masks, and no enforcement.

Honestly, my issue was not with people deciding to wear a mask or remain socially distant. My issue is with Miss Belmar, and them not enforcing their own rules. If they were going to allow people to not wear masks, and fill up their boat with people whereby social distancing is impossible, then I would not signed up for this trip. Lesson learned I guess.

COVID-19 is REAL!

Booked a trip for a large party we had issues keeping our spots on the boat took over a half an hour to get our 2 spots back. Was told and read through emails that the boat wouldn’t be fully occupied but when we boarded the boat was packed we couldn’t move left or right. We had a group next to us that bought two extra spots just so they had more room it wasn’t worth the money our trip cost over 1k and I don’t feel like we got the return for our investment.

I experienced one of the most disgusting exhibits of both unethical and extremely dangerous actions by the Captain and crew of the Miss Belmar Princess Saturday July 25, 2020.
None of the Covid 19 Safety Standards they claim on their website were in place’ When I complained I was told by two crew members that Captain Alan Shinn said to ignore them.

Specifically:

1. NO masks were were worn by any crew members. Only 4-5 passengers on the boat wore face masks including myself and my fishing companion. I heard passengers told they were not needed either in dock or at sea.

2. Over 50 people were jammed on the boat elbow to elbow. I have photos.

3. NO social distancing was encouraged or even possible.

4. Hand sanitizers were not available as far as I could see.

5. No temperature checks were made although I was told when I called that they would be done and their attached guidelines say no one would be allowed on board with a temperature.
6. The false advertising ensuring the safety precautions simply lured people on when in fact they had no intent of honoring them and no regard for the safety of the passengers or even the crew.
This is a blatant example of a total disregard for the Governors directive, even referenced on their website, their own phony policy, common sense health guidelines and a complete lack of regard for the clients, their families and the public because of simple greed. People are literally trapped on these ships for anywhere from from 4 hours on in an environment that is extremely dangerous.

Very disappointed. We paid 95 per person because of limited space on boat because of Covid 19 there was supposed to be limited bookings and social distancing and masks were required in the boat . None of these rules were followed. They were more worried about making money than following rules. I contacted captain several times with my complain. It’s been 5 weeks and still no response. But when my friend called for info on booking a trip they responded within minutes. Very unprofessional and there not following the safety rules .

Not buying all these positive reviews. Must be peoples first time off the jetty.

What an experience for a first time on a large boat! Website said "get your tickets early, they might sell out due to social distancing, boat will feel like a private charter due to these safe practices." Yeah. Right. Money over safety.

Never seen a boat more packed with people in my life, every rod holder taken (photo), had about 4 square feet to drop a line without hitting others who were closer to hull or farther than you, left or right of you. Soon as you dropped (forget casting) 5+ lines would tangle together and youd spend the rest of fishing stop untangling. Had to alternate fishing with other people around you. Soon as you dropped current would take lures under boat and tangle with people on other side.
Other similar size boats were half empty. Arent there limits for an enjoyable trip? Why overbook??

Captain did a 3 hour roundtrip from Belmar to Keansburg with a few 10 minute stops when he got there to fish when there were plenty of boats fishing right off Belmar. Could have taken a boat out of Keansburg.

Then stated on the PA that no boats are catching fish in Raritan Bay either and its a terrible day for fishing. Except fb groups for the bay were full of photos of boaters catching plenty of fish. Maybe because 50 people to one fish when you cant even get your hook in the water is a bad ratio?? No mention of refunds or anything, just a tip jar. Everyone looled miserable getting off boat.

Lesson learned

First I wanted to say that unlike other reviews for this whale watching tour, the owner and his staff are truly wonderful. They were very accommodating with rescheduling not once, but twice. They allow you to bring food and beverages onboard where most others do not. The vessel is spotless. They do their best to provide a smooth ride and work very hard to ensure that you see the beautiful marine life in our waters. Unfortunately as hard as they tried, we saw only 1 humpback whale. We stayed with him/her for a long time at a very safe distance and turning off the motor to ensure the safety of the whale which mean so much. The staff also fished out a large balloon from the ocean so that the marine life doesn't mistakenly eat it and get sick or die. There are food and treats available for purchase at very affordable prices. This is a wonderful experience and is great for people of all ages. I do not believe a person in a wheelchair could aboard but you should double check with the staff prior to purchasing tickets.

We have had nothing but positive experiences on this boat in the past. A recent trip has changed our enthusiasm towards the way this business operates. While on the boat it was apparent that the majority of the customers weren’t wearing masks. The entire crew did not wear one either.. additionally in spite of the numerous signage, both crew and customers were smoking. As if that wasn’t enough on a clearly over COVID guideline capacity restrictions, one of the customers was drunk to the point where he became combative with others. He was threatening the crew, customers and was loudly cursing. This went on way too long and we should have returned to the dock to have him removed or the coast guard could have been contacted. Instead we endured him for hours which completely ruined our day. I noticed that the crew referred to the man by his first name, so it was clear that they knew him personally. On the way back to shore, he was invited to the bridge, where he chatted and laughed with the captain and crew, though he could barely stand. When we were back at shore I immediately contacted the office and asked them to look into the situation. I never heard back, so I contacted the office a second time, where I was again assured that I would be hearing back from the captain. It’s been over 2 weeks and I have not been contacted. I can only assume that the office had no interest in confirming that the man will not be allowed back on the boat, which is all I was interested in knowing, as previously indicated; I am a repeat customer.
