Beautiful area to hike, with many different trails to take: some shaded and some in the open sun. I especially love the trails that pass the stunning blue water. This is also a popular place for kayaking and for bringing dogs to play in the lake. Highly recommend as a day trip!

Took this hike in the Fall, cooler weather, less bugs. Easy trails to follow, several "out and back" trials. Benches along the way to rest, or sit and take in the scenery.
Historic buildings with good historical information but some need plexiglass replaced so reading posted signs is easier. Easy to get to off the GSP, lots of parking, clean, I mean CLEAN rest rooms at trail head. Trail maps are located by the bathrooms, be sure to pick one up! Great hike in the summer when the weather isn't it's best for the beach, or great hike in the morning before hitting the beach.

Double Trouble State Park gives a special view of the Pine Barrens in New Jersey. It is on the site of cranberry bogs. At some times of the year the bogs are drained leaving a dramatic red coloring in the earth. At other times the bogs are filled with water. Either way it makes a nice one to one and a half hour hike around the park.
Access: Going south on the Garden State, take exit 80. Make a left onto Double Trouble Road, Drive 3 miles south and you'll drive right into the park entrance. Very easy to get to.
Once you are into the park, you will see Double Trouble village, which had a combination of cranberry farming and white cedar logging. There are good markers explaining the history, work and life of the town. The buildings are there as they were - this is not a cute restored village. These are the real buildings.
You can take any number of walks - it's all flat. The walks are either along the bogs or into the woods. We like to go in the winter when there are few people. It's a meditative environment, a refreshing change.
I would do it in conjunction with a drive to the Jersey Shore. We have never spent more than 1 1/2 hours in the park. We have driven East on 37 to get to the shore where we walked along the beach. It's a nice contrast to the walk in the woods.

Arrived at the park to go kayaking with my family and friends. The gates to get near the water for launching were closed. We had to carry 6 kayaks and equipment 1/4 mile to the launch site. People all around were complaining as we passed them with their stuff. For some reason, the local canoe rentals had keys to unlock the gates for their use. To think our tax dollars were given rights to rentals as we tax payers had to hump a long way pissed me and several others off. Let your State Legislators know. I will Monday morning. On the other hand, once we were on Cedar Creek it was the most enjoyable 2 1/2 hours of the weekend. Fix another problem in NJ and enjoy all this State has to offer.

Lovely place....wish people would respect it more by not littering and throwing cigarette butts around. People are clueless and disrespectful of nature and others.

Looking for something interesting and fun to do in central south jersey? Definitely go canoeing or kayaking down Cedar Creek in the Bayville area Double Trouble State Park. We had been hearing about this Creek for some time now and finally had the weekend to experience it. We were not disappointed. We took our own kyaks and planned our own route with the guidance of some nice locals. We kayaked from the Girl Scout camp in Bayville and ended at Dudley. The trip lasted about 7 hours that included 3 stops to eat and enjoy swimming and photo ops. The other visitors all seemed friendly and were having a good ole time. Some went by canoe others by kyak and still others by tube and raft. Although the water moves you still need to paddle and steer. As with most laid back trips, it is what you make it. Its a great day in the sun on clear cool clean water with your favorite people. What more can you ask for. We enjoyed it and will be back again.

We were traveling home from Atlantic City and wanted to go on a brief walk to stretch our legs. We found Double Trouble State Park and stopped to get our puppy out for a walk.
The trails are wide and flat, mostly sand and gravel. We saw one person cycling (if you're going to cycle at least have a hybrid bicycle, if not, a wider tire so that you don't get stuck in the sand). We saw quite a few other people with dogs, one was playing fetch in the water but most of the other dogs were just going for a stroll with their handlers.
One guy had a very nice camera, he was out shooting photography of migrating birds.
There are a few signs posted telling the story of the area, once a sawmill and lumber yard, then a cranberry bog. I wish I had more time to read the signs and explore the trails, but, we only stopped for an hour or two.
We saw two kayakers coming back from a spin out on the water, that looked like a lot of fun and I'd love to get back and go for a day kayaking.

Beautiful park with many trails going through wonderfully diverse ecosystems including rivers, creeks, swamps, forests and cranberry bogs. Many intriguing historical sites along with natural environments. Perfect for walking, and many take advantage of the great trails. Many habitats offer prime locations for taking excellent photographs.

Nice easy trails along former cranberry bogs. Nice place to run or walk on wide flat trails. Quiet and peaceful. Nice spot to go easy kayaking along the stream also or just sit relax and have a picnic.

I will be staying at an nearby campground (Cedar Creek),downstream from Double Trouble State Park. Canoes & kayaks put in here & paddle back to the campground. My question is can you tube this same Cedar Creek?
