I’m not a beer drinker but it was my husband’s birthday and I wanted to do something other than sit around the dinner table with cake. I originally booked the Saturday morning tour but the day before, the owner emailed me to request that we switch to the afternoon tour since there were no other guests that morning. I happily obliged but explained that we chose the tour that we did because of my husband’s preference for non-IPA beers. The afternoon of the tour, the owner, Dave, admitted that he switched tours so that he could tailor the beer tastings for types other than IPA’s. Dave is personable, knowledgeable and more than accommodating to his guests. And his mom’s homemade jumbo soft pretzels were delicious, too!

If you are visiting NH and enjoy beer, this trip is a must! My husband and I took a weekend long beer-cation in Portsmouth for the second year in a row. Last year there were no tour buses so we went it alone. This year I discovered Granite State Growler Tours and decided to give it a try. For starters, they take you to breweries during hours when most of the public is not permitted to visit, so the result is a private tour. This is great, especially if you are a home brewer and enjoy talking one on one with the brewers to pick their brain. Granite State Growler Tours were so accommodating, they even picked us up at our hotel. We started the tour at a rum distillery, and ended at a craft brew liquor store. In between were tours and samples at some of New England's best up and coming breweries. The tour guide provided fun and charming history of beer in the Granite State. He handed out souvenirs to those who participated in trivia. We had about 45 minutes at each stop..plenty of time for the tours, tastings, and growler fills. The bus, "Greta the Growler Getta" was equipped with plenty of cooler space for all of the growlers the group acquired along the way. The tour guides provide color-coded stickers to identify your growlers from everyone else's so when you're intoxicated at the end, there are no brawls breaking out about who's beer is who's ;) Did I mention the pretzels!?! The company bakes pretzels with different local beers for the tour group and serve them at just the right time to soak up the suds. I cannot say enough about this tour! It is a fun, cost-effective way to discover the great beers of New Hampshire and make some friends along the way. Also, if you want a souvenir they have awesome hand-made steins from a local pottery company. No two are identical. Very cool!

This was well worth the trip! Our tour stopped at 5 breweries, and a few stops for a historical lesson about NH and its history with beer. The pretzels were REALLY good, timed just right on the trip for a snack between all the tastings. Something to remember - although there is no drinking on the bus, you can bring food along....We did the Firkin Tour on a Sunday, and all the brewers were happy to tell their story, answer questions about brewing, and selling the spirits in the end. Thanks to the team for showing us a great time - I will definitely be taking another tour really soon!

I took my girlfriend on one of the Granite State Growler Tours for her birthday. We had a blast. Went to Tributary, SoMe, and Liar's Bench. The guys running the trip were entertaining as it gets and the brewers were not afraid to share their beer with us. Very fun. Would do it again.

We spent a great, informative Sunday on a tour with a group of friends. We visited some wonderful small breweries we never would have found on our own (Earth Eagle and Liar's Bench) and some local favorites (Neighborhood Brewing and Smoky Quartz Distillery). At each stop we were treated to lots of information, a tour and delicious samples. In between stops, our tour guide was a wealth of entertaining stories and lots of history. The bus itself was clean and very comfortable for this type of tour.
I'd highly recommend this tour to anyone with an interest in craft brewing!

This was a birthday present for myself, and a girls trip all in one! We had a wonderful time, the beers were tasty, and the breweries were very interesting. We visited 3 breweries, 1 in NH and 2 in neighboring Maine. Super easy pick up and drop off, bus was very clean and the homemade pretzels were delicious. Great time!!

Today we rode the @nhbeerbus around Dover, NH and had the BEST time! We were able to fill the bus with 14 friends. The bus picked us up in Portsmouth, NH at the Hanover Street garage - it was easy to park and find the bus. Mark (our tour guide) gave us a quick talk on "the fine print" and details about the bus (coolers on the bus to keep anything you purchase cold, water on ice, and homemade pretzels to die for baked with Woodstock 4000 footer ale - perfect for a group of hikers!). Mark taught us all sorts of New Hampshire beer history during our bus time - he's very entertaining, we laughed, we heckled, we tried to answer trivia questions...

We visited Garrison City Brewing first - this place is awesome! We were the only customers in the bar and were given special attention by the staff and plenty of samples (loved the Handlebar and Crowbar porters!)

From Garrison we took a quick walk down to 7th Settlement where a big table was set up for our party and we were seated immediately. We were handed samples and given a private tour of their brewing area. This was followed by more samples and some excellent apps (wings, flatbread, fries - if you're not convinced to jump on the bus yet, you could go eat/drink here at least...). Beer brewed with oysters? CHECK.

Back in the bus (which picked us up right outside the door!) we journeyed to Tall Ship Distillery for some rum. Here we learned about the business, equipment, and process directly from the owner. Of course we enjoyed many samples as well.

Our final stop of the day (and my personal favorite) was North Country Hard Cider. Same as the other places we were given a private tour of the brewery and samples of their awesome (local) ciders. Friends that said, "I thought I didn't like cider..?!" left with growlers.

A few key points - if you like supporting local business - this is an ideal way to do that. Obviously these brewers are local, as are most of the products they are using to make their beer and food - not to mention the actual bus - everyone working on the bus is local of course! If you're interested in brewing yourself, these tour guides/brewers do not hold back information - they love what they do and are passionate about sharing that. If you don't care as much about brewing (like me) but enjoy trying new, unique brews while spending time with friends and doing something unique together - I would highly recommend this - we'll be back!

Thank you Granite State Growler Tours.
