We are locals and visit Portsmouth frequently for dinner out and entertainment. But, just to try something different and tour the city we thought we would try the White Tablecloth culinary tour given by Portsmouth Eats. Led by Jon, it was a combination of bits of history as we walked, some of which we had not heard despite having lived in the area for over 10 years and food tastings. We went to 5 different places, 3 we were familiar with but had not been to in a while and two that were new to us. The restaurants were slightly different in their menus so you truly get a cross sample of the offerings. Sample sizes were just right - nothing huge but a big enough sample that by the end of the tour, you were full. Cocktails or beer and wine were available at the places as an added expense, but no pressure from the restaurant to order them. Each place greeted us warmly, seated us, and some spoke about the history of the establishment and others about their approach to their menu. Jon was a great guide, pleasant, knowledgeable and very personable. Luckily, we do live in the area so we WILL be taking another of his tours in the very near future. Highly recommend!

One of the best foodtours I've been on. Our host Jonathan was friendly and knowledgeable. He paced the tour well so we never felt rushed. More food than I expected, and it was all delicious!

We were in the area vacationing and asked the locals where they go and this is where they suggested. Great food, great atmosphere and a wonderful view. I would go back again.

Great way to learn about the city and taste some of the better restaurants fair. Went to 5 restaurants and each of them was different and had won awards. Helps to answer the question "Where shall we eat tonight"?

The two hour food and history tour was great. The guide was very knowledgeable and I learned a lot about the quite interesting history of Portsmouth. Great tastes from five different venues and we had time to have a craft beer or other beverage at two of them. The place with the brussel sprouts had creative milkshakes with liquor which a few couples shared. The alcohol beverages were on the customer to pay. The venues could change between tours but we had award winning seafood chowder, pizza, fried brussel sprouts, spicy fried shrimp, and small batch chocolates. At the end of the tour I wanted to return to Portsmouth for a more leisurely stay, with more history and more eateries. Not cheap, but good value for the price.
