Sail aboard the Piscataqua, a traditional reproduction of the flat-bottom gundalow barges that were once prevalent along local waterways. Educational, informative and fun, a sail is a great way to explore the sights and sounds of the Piscataqua River. Morning, afternoon, and sunset sails run Memorial Day through Columbus Day, and we offer weekly specialty sails featuring music, guest speakers, local tastings, and more. Private charters are also available.

What a cool boat ! You will be sailing on a replica of a historical boat. The tour is not non-stop narration. At one point the captain does some explaining and then it is up to you to ask questions. The staff are very friendly and include you (if you want) in hoisting the sail. They only have a primitive... More

We took the children's tour Saturday noontime with our three grandchildren. It was great. The children loved it. Each had an opportunity to "see" the boat. They also loved the "sea creatures" exhibit. And we found the history of the Gundalow interesting, even though we have done this before. I plan to recommend this to my 5th grade granddaughter's teacher... More

I took one of the Gundalow's sunset cruises. What a cool boat celebrating the history of the river! Sailboats are always a lot of fun, and this one was no exception. The cruise took us out past a naval ship yard, a cool old prison, and some beautiful houses. We got a short but interesting history of the river and... More

Aboard the gundalow (a type of river barge) Piscataqua for a sunset cruise of the Piscataqua River, we were treated to an interesting summary presentation of how these boats were used on the river over the years and how their design evolved as the riverside towns developed. We were also fortunate be entertained by Oran Mor's traditional Irish/Scots music. The... More

Our trip on the Gundalow boat was very relaxing and interesting. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the boat and area. We learned quite a bit about the boats and Portsmouth. The weather was perfect. We had a wonderful time and enjoyed watching the staff involve the children with hoisting the sail.

We had the greatest time on our afternoon cruise! The weather was exceptionally beautiful and the children enjoyed being able to participate in hoisting sails and steering the boat with the captain. The friendly, hospitable crew made our time on the ship so much fun. What a memorable time for our kids and their grandmothers to share together!

We enjoyed a wonderful slow and gentle sail on the river/bay in Portsmouth. Lovely folk music. We brought a picnic and wine. It was just wonderful! A beautiful old ship and the staff was very welcoming.

The crew did an exceptional job both handling the boat and providing interesting commentary on the history of gundalows and the estuaries they operated on. We were able to take a picnic supper own the boat which maddest more fun. additionally the weather was perfect. We look forward to taking... More

We went on the Discovery Sail with six boys ages 3 - 13. The sail was 2 hours, so I was afraid it would be too long. But the crew was fantastic, engaged the boys with hauling the sails and other sailing activities, and we all just loved every minute. We were lucky to have a good breeze too.

What a great way to spend a summer's eve. We had perfect weather and the cruise was not only fun but educational. We brought along our own picnic including wine and dined while enjoying the beautiful Piscataqua River from Prescott Park all the way to Wood Island and back. The entire crew was professional, fun, and very informative with lots... More
