My visit to the Wentworth House was part of a larger adventure of visiting many historic homes in New England. Thus it is difficult to avoid comparison. This house is a perfect gem displaying the major points of Georgian house design. The "bones" are all there - symmetry, light, breadth of space and the general "airiness" one expects from a... More

Beautifully restored house of a bygone era. Facing the river, the house near downtown Portsmouth is open for guided tours. Our guide read his script but did seem to be knowledgeable about the house and time period. The large rooms are furnished with period furniture and have attractive fireplaces. One room contains an exhibit about Portsmouth's privateers of the colonial... More

Very interesting and informative tour. Our tour guide was a wealth of knowledge about these families. Takes about an hour.

We loved the tour of this house. This house was one of the more interesting houses we have toured. It is right on the water and had lots of different rooms and nooks and crannies. It would of been a great house to grow up in! Our guide was very knowledgeable. The website, though, has the wrong tour times. There... More

It is now called Wentworth Coolidge now. What an awesome house. So big and right on the water with beautiful views from every window. First we got to have a guided tour of inside the house. Only $5 PP. So many floors and rooms to explore. I loved it. After we took a 1.5 mile hike all around the harbor... More

This was one of three houses we toured on a rainy day in Portsmouth. We were the only two on the tour on this day. The tour guide was extremely knowledgable and was happy to answer any question you had - she was also helpful in recommending areas to see in Portsmouth which were low-cost/free. The house and gardens were... More

When you visit the Wentworth Gardner home you are also visiting the near by home of Tobias Lear V the personal assistant to George Washington throughout his presidency and after. The Lear home is in relatively poor condition but is apparently schedule for reconditioning work sometime in the next few years. The real jewel on this visit is the Wentworth... More

Very clear and interesting accounts of the buildings history during the guided tour. An ideal supplement to Strawberry Banke.
