Benson park is an amazing place to go for a walk, take the kids, go to the playground, take the dog, have a picnic, take pictures and bird watch amoung other things. This place was a zoo back in the day. It has been renovated and is simply magical for kids. Lots of the old structures are there, gorilla cages, the old woman in the shoe display, the swan pond (you can always see turtles hanging out). The park is well maintained and lots of fun. Only down side is there are no public restrooms - only porta potties. Yuck! Maybe soon the town will get real bathrooms up and running. The dog park is a great attraction there as well.

Nice small park with a couple of dhort hiking trails and a playground. There are pretty flower gardens in season. It's clean, safe, and a nice place to bring kids or get some exercise. A few benches to sit on.

The sight of the original Benson's Animal Farm, is now a beautiful park. I love the fact that some of the original structures from the farm have been restored. Trails around the pond are beautiful and you can bring your dog!

Benson Park is now a public park. Up until maybe 25 years ago it was a zoo and smallish amusement park. When it was closed it was left to nature and vandals. Maybe five years ago now a group got together to reclaim it. Since then, the town plus a dedicated corps of volunteers have sweated and broken their backs to make it a beautiful sanctuary in Hudson, NH. There are still traces of some former exhibit areas in the park, but these are getting harder and harder to find as the volunteers are planting new garden areas all the time. During the summer my wife and I love the butterfly garden. We also like stopping by the former waterfowl pool. All last year one man and his wife worked tirelessly to clean it out and beautify it. For those with kids there is an extensive playground area and a rehabilitated "Old Lady's Shoe" house. There are shady and roof covered picnic areas as well as many donated benches throughout the park. The town built a 9-11 memorial that features a girder from one of the Twin Towers and a timeline of that fateful day. As most reviewers mention, there are extensive paths, walkways and trails. My wife and also enjoy watching the turtles sun themselves on the shore and logs of "Swan Lake". Across the parking lot there is a dog park where owners can let their dogs roam free and socialize with other canines. That doesn't stop owners from walking their dogs on a leash in the former zoo section. It's open all year during daylight hours, we were there a couple of weeks ago, but can't wait 'till the warmer seasons when the trees and shrubs leaf out, when the flowers start blooming and when the intrepid volunteers reclaim more of the overgrown landscape. By the way, in the warmer seasons there are "porta potties" available, nasty but handy.

My wife and I discovered the renovated old Benson's Wild Animal Park a few years ago and head over there as frequently as we can. Some of the old cages and buildings are there in the middle of the park, but the best part are the hiking trails. There's a stocked pond that's perfect for RC boats, fishing, or just watching the turtles. Next to that is a nice picnic/frisbee area too. There's also a very nice 9/11 memorial. If you search on the Hudson, NH .gov site there's a downloadable .pdf trail map (I'd link it here but URLs are usually a "promotion" violation of the posting guidelines).

Benson is the perfect mix of a city park and hiking trail.
The city park portion has nice, wide paved walkways, manicured lawns, park benches, beautiful trees and ponds as well as a dog walking area.
The hiking area has well marked loops with mild up and down trails with just enough rocks and roots that you have to watch your step as you bound down the trail. The only issue is they don’t have enough land to make the trails longer. A bit short at just over three miles.

This is a wonderful place to day trip. Very family friendly. A great playground for the kiddos, and no better place to teach the young ones to fish. A fairly extensive trail system makes for a good hike and the terrain can be moderately steep in some areas. Lots of wildlife to be seen as well. We love it here.

I remember Bensons form when I was a child & walking through the many trails with my dogs & seeing some of the old buildings & pictures bring back delightful memories. Thank you to all the volunteers that brought back the beauty of the park for all of us middle aged folks who remember Bensons in its heyday!😊

After seeing all the posts on their facebook page on the work that had been done to the park, I finally got a chance to check it out. Went with a friend and her two boys and had a great time at the playground, walking around the pond and hanging out in the gorilla house. Due to the heat, we only able to walk through a part of the park. Their are definite plans to go back and finish enjoying the park.
On the way out took a few minutes to take in the September 11th memorial. Very moving and a great tribute to all those we lost and all those who help protect us in the armed services.

Benson Park has great walking trails, a fenced-in dog park, a large playground, grassy areas, and a nostalgic gorilla cage for the kids to play in. I was amazed by the amount of amenities the first time I visited Benson Park. The playground is unique and suitable for toddlers - my two year old son loved the bridge with "holes". I think the favorite part of the park was the gorilla cage that the kids can play in, though. There is a gorgeous mural on the back wall and the kids seem to love the novelty of being in a cage. I highly recommend this park.

They have an area with picnic tables, and benches located throughout. You are allowed to bring in gas grills for cooking.
Are there any electrical outlets available near any picnic tables?

I have not seen any. I have not looked closely myself, but I have not seen anyone plug anything in. I doubt very much there are electrical outlets.

Not that I know of. They would announce it in the Hudson/Litchfield News. I read them all and I haven't seen anything.
Is there somewhere to grill or toast marshmallows?

If you bring a grill with you. There aren't any available there. There are plenty of tables and benches to sit on. Ive seen people barbecuing there so I dont believe thats an issue.
Can you bring bikes to ride on the trails?

We have ridden bikes there but it's not the easiest place to ride with the hills, gravel, etc. In my opinion I would consider it a great place to walk and enjoy nature - don't forget to get a sub at Cahill's which is very close by..........
