Benson is the perfect mix of a city park and hiking trail. The city park portion has nice, wide paved walkways, manicured lawns, park benches, beautiful trees and ponds as well as a dog walking area. The hiking area has well marked loops with mild up and down trails with just enough rocks and roots that you have to watch your step as you bound down the trail. The only issue is they don’t have enough land to make the trails longer. A bit short at just over three miles.

Enjoyed walking here years back with my niece and her family and now just our family and friends. My Mom told us stories of going there as a child with her family and her memories. So great that so many people have worked on its restoration. Great job everyone!!

Bensons wild animal park was s childhood favorite but had closed and became rundown. A great job by the town and volunteers that remade it what it is today. New mixed with old, we got to show our kids some of the things they have seen in old photographs in person. Walking paths, a big playground, a dog park and even a 9-11 memorial.

We took two of our grandchildren (5 yo and 7 month old) and our dog (labradoodle) to Benson Park on my husband’s birthday. We spent the afternoon having a picnic lunch (lots of benches and picnic tables throughout), sliding and swinging on the playground and strolling along the many little pathways. It was a very relaxing place to enjoy the day without having to travel far and there’s no entry fee! Easy paths on which to push the stroller and lots of shady spots to rest. Quite a few good “birding” areas too. We love to identify new species! My sole complaint was that the restroom was poorly maintained (NO toilet paper at all in the women’s bathroom). There was even a little free library and some great spots to sit and read. This is definitely a peaceful place to visit (at least on a Tuesday)! We’ll be back.

Great place to bring children of any age....My grandkids love going there playing on the playground, walking around the pond checking out the turtles and going up to see the Old Lady in the Shoe! Brings back memories of bringing my children there many years ago!
