Nice leisure drive on the coach, not sure of each of the stops for viewing/photographs. but well worth the trouble and good experience. Visited in early October so Autumn not fully coloured but guess it would be superb later in the month

Our main goal was to visit Mount Washington and we had to take I-93 to get there. Franconia Notch offers several stops along the way for the traveler needing a break from the road. It's a great way to stretch your legs to take a...More

I grew up an hour south of Franconia Notch and it's always been a favorite place of mine -- also one of the most beautiful regions I've seen in all my travels, any time of year.

Love this park and area. Swim in Echo Lake or enjoy paddle boat or canoe rentals. We didn't fish but watched others fly fish by another lake. Many areas to hike. Bike rentals at cannon mountain. The only thing we did not do was the...More

We drove through and it was pretty. There were many trails and other things to do but we were not up to hiking. I would like to go back and do some hiking and see some of the water falls.

We are visiting during the summer and greatly love the beauty of this area. And I know that in many ways it is even more beautiful during the winter months. If you love to hike, this is a place for you to enjoy.

It's a drive through the woods. The views are pretty, but not awe-inspiring. We drove all around hoping to see some wildlife along with the views and we struck out. We were in the area 3 days and saw nothing but crows. We were very...More

There are certainly places you can stop and break out a picnic, just look for any sort of signage indicating a landmark or camping or park. You're pretty much guaranteed to find a table sit at or grassy hill to relax on no... More

Traveled from Boston to Lincoln Franconia notch area is close to peak. Seems every area is at a different level. Drove past twin mountain to see great color today. Actually hot when sitting in the sun.

Thanks for the update! I was trying to find somewhere to get a real idea as to the colors in the areal. We are in Florida, but fly into Boston on Friday to bring the kids to see some fall colors. :) We can't wait! Even if they pass peak, they will still look great to our untrained eyes! LOL

Franconia Notch from Bath, ME, then Brattleboro, VT (9 Replies)
Hi--Is it realistic to plan to drive from Bath to Franconia Notch, spend a couple of hours there, then drive to Brattleboro in a (long) day in August? We are limited in travel time but would love to see the area. Any help would be much appreciated!

It's realistic in that there are enough hours of daylight in which to cover the route, with enough time to spare to let you stretch your legs a bit. It doesn't sound relaxing or like the best way to enjoy the area, but if you're up for a day spent mostly in the car, you can do it and you will see some beautiful scenery. I'd recommend taking the Kancamagus Highway (Route 112) through the mountains from Conway to Lincoln. I don't know how you're getting to Bath or how much time you're spending...More

White Mountains & Acadia Itinerary (10 Replies)
My boyfriend and I are planning a 9 day New England trip this October to the White Mountains, Acadia NP, and Boston. I know a lot of driving will be involved and that fall is a busy season, so I am trying to book hotels this week. We are in our late 20s and are very adventurous; love to hike and be outdoors. We also are very over ambitious on vacation; sightseeing and doing as much as we can from morning to night. Just trying to decide how many days/nights to spend in each location. ...More

Looks good as is. Note that many businesses in Bar Harbor close after the Columbus Day weekend, but there are still some places open.
