About
Local working artists' studios and gallery with art in progress and art for sale. Original paintings, digital art, prints, landscapes, abstracts, jewelry, assemblage, photography, watercolors and drawings. From very large work and to very small. See the works of all 8 artists plus take a peek through the doors to the artists' working studios to see what's on the easel. We are proud to be the first working artists' studio collective in Exeter's growing art scene. We have been featured on New Hampshire Chronicle, Creative Guts Podcast, New England art publications and in local newspapers. We are open on a regular basis to the public, hold exhibitions, and have two huge open studios each year as well as organize individual artist exhibitions. We are super easy to spot in Uptown Exeter (a rising arts and culture district). Look for the dark gray building with the yellow trim and flower murals. Come in, take a breath and a moment to absorb the energy.

One of the best artist co-ops we have been to on our vacation in New England. Every I e of the artists in this co-op is unique and at the top of their form. It is well worth the visit if you are anywhere newer Exeter NH!

On a local tv show during COVID lockdowns, it was queued for a visit later, and finally time permitted. Well worth the 1 hour drive over.
There's plenty to see, and the atmosphere is welcoming. The art is vibrant, refreshing and inspiring. Feels like I took a mini vacation.

Fun local art gallery, but small. Unusual art and great way to meet and talk with the artists. Good variety of mediums. Reasonably priced art.

Amazing community art studio founded by local artist Rose Bryant. The building has about ten separate studios for artists. The gallery is open daily and special shows and events are held several times a year. On Friday nights you can join artists and friends on the front veranda for drinks and conversation!

In Exeter, I went to the Art Up Front Street Studios & Gallery to attend the Open Studios special event.
Featured artists were:
Joshua Peterman - Charcoal drawings, painting, illustration
Anne Marie Kenny - Industrial quilts, wire assemblage
Shannon Hays - Design, collage, whimsy
Jessica Furtado - Photography, collage, functional art
Natalie Eve Marquis - Paintings, spirit animals, florals
Ree Katrak - Mixed media, large abstract paintings
Amy Tilton - Oil paintings, florals, still life, ceramic earrings
Rose Bryant - Original paintings, abstract landscape
Guest artists work:
Jeff Whittum - Metal sculpture
Dale Atkins - Ceramic vessels
I went around to every studio. Some artists were at work; others were socializing with visitors.
Of all the work I saw, I liked the metal sculptures of Jeff Whittum. He had done a series of large fish. Inside the shaping frame of each fish’s body, he had arranged objects. I particularly liked the one with different sized sets of pliers that were arranged to form the fish’s skeleton. He also had done two small faces. Each one had its own personality.
For something different, the industrial quilt work of Anne Marie Kenny was very interesting. Instead of fabric, they were made with a wire mesh background.
The other seven or so artists did more commonplace types of art, such as photography, oil paintings, acrylic paintings, ceramics.
There were a lot of nice pieces in each studio.
Out in the front room, there was a gentleman playing a ukulele and singing. He was very good.
I enjoyed my visit and the opportunity to speak with several of the artists.
My rating of Art Up Front Street Studios & Gallery is 5.0.

A friend and I stopped by an open house they were having at Art Up Front Street. The building, with its big white flowers painted on the outside walls, was easy to spot and very inviting and had plenty of on-street parking.
We walked in the front door into a small gallery featuring some local artists. Past the gallery, there was a corridor with eight individual artist studios, each with its door open and work setup to view. There was a lot of wonderful work to see in this artist collaborative, and everyone was very welcoming. We very much appreciated that Rose, the woman who founded the collaborative, went out of her way to greet us and answer our questions.
This inviting studio/gallery space is definitely worth a trip for both locals and visitors to see the work of many fine local artists. We look forward to going back soon.

As a self proclaimed art snob, I LOVED everything about this multiple studio and gallery. The owner (and brilliant artist) Rose has curated a collection of unique and gifted artists. All works are contemporary and fresh. Art Up Front St is a collector’s dream.

There is no shortage of historic architecture and expansive seascapes in the south east corner of New Hampshire. But if you are searching for something a little different on your visit, look no further than Art Up Front Street in Exeter. This gallery brings together artistic influences from throughout the state: iron-melding, industrial weaving inspired by Manchester's riverside mills, and doll-making. Visitors may come away with a piece invoking a multi-dimensional New England nightscape, or a new take on a collage, inspired by the work of Joseph Cornell. Not necessarily looking to purchase? The gallery has a line up activities for visitors and locals alike, such as regular classes (including an "I Suck at Art" intro for beginners!) and charity evenings with organizations like Womenade. If you're particularly lucky, you will have time to stop in on a Friday evening, where the owner of the gallery herself can usually be found with wine and cheese. There is no better introduction to New England community spirit and creativity.
