We were a group of 10 people, a.d after reading up were looking forward to a lovely boat cruise a d seeing crocodiles.
We did NOT see any on the river ( supposedly 500 on the river) The driver drove the boat right into the mangroves almost stabbing some of our group with the branches. Luckily they jumped up just in time. On our return the tour guide overshot his turn and we slammed into the bridge damaging the canopy. A pole hit me in the back of the head and one of our group tried to push us away from the pillar , and thankfully pulled his hand back just in time , as the buckled canopy almost took his hand off. No apologies, no asking if everyone was alright. We complained about not seeing any crocs and about the crash and received zero compensation by way of a complimentary visit. We went back down there as the phone lines just went to voicemail. Rude customer service by the assistant manager and we spoke to the boss via phone who didn't care and refused the complimentary passes!
Save your money , and don't go on this tour!

If you are thinking about visiting Black River and are looking for an adventure do it!! But do it with Mr Teddy - a local guy who has spent his life on the river. His passion and knowledge about the local wildlife and plants is hard to beat and you are guaranteed to see crocodiles up close!

He also took us out to the famous Pelican Bar and a new business just started up the Dolphin and Reef Bar - bars that are on stilts in the shallow Caribbean sea. We preferred the new Dolphin & Reef bar owned by Shirley and Bill who gave us the warmest of welcomes! The total trip was around US$60pp - Take the trip with Mr. Teddy you won’t be disappointed!

We visited the Black River for a morning cruise as a full day of visiting attractions in the area. The Black River is absolutely beautiful and the cruise was a highlight of the day.

We saw quite a few of the crocodiles, some of which got very close to the boat which was amazing. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and knew a lot about the animals, flora and fauna of the river so we learnt a lot.

Well worth a visit, would definitely recommend.

A boat rode up and down the river shows you the locals (crocs and egrets). The tour guides have the crocs trained to come when they call, and even some of the egrets too. A relaxing ride both ways, but can get hot if you are sitting in the sun. We didn't have any issues with mosquitos but if you went in the morning or evening then we were told they are very thick.

We visited the Black River as part of a 3 part excursion. Wasn't really expecting much but was pleasantly surprised.
The Black River is really beautiful and our guide was was excellent, informative and funny. He made us laugh and entertained us with his antics and stories. We saw quite a few crocodiles which our guide had lovingly named (apparently after the last person they ate - joke). Some got quite close to the boat which was awesome.

Really loved this boat ride, so much to see & take in from all the wonderful birds, the mangroves & being you close to the crocodiles.
It was one place I felt really overcome & so appreciative of the privilege of being able to travel & see such places.

The guide has so much information & very respectful of the river & all who live around it.

Wasn't really expecting much from this as it was tagged onto a 3 tour excursion.

Absolutely loved it!! Our guide was brilliant, informative and beady eyed lookout for the crocodiles. Overall we saw about 5 and he even encouraged one over to the side of the boat. Pretty scary to be honest but fascinating to see reasonable up close.

Definitely well worth a visit!

The Black River tour was excellent but one you only really need to do once. The staff were a fountain of knowledge giving us facts from beginning to end.

I did this tour through TUI (UK) so I don't know if everyone's experience would be the same but we were served an excellent meal at the end. The only reason it's not five star for me is because other than going along the river and coming back, there's nothing else to it. I felt it could've been a little longer.

We did see the odd crocodile which was a bonus and the staff were bilingual (English and German) but I felt it was over too fast.

Black River is just that - a black river. Not what i expected. Stop #1 on a 3 stop tour up the rough mountain. Open boat with a canvas canopy. Rugged vessel. Saw 4 crocodiles in the water, a few big white birds, a termite nest inside the swamp. Captain threw out some raw chicken to encourage the crocs to come close enough for pictures.

We ported at Montego Bay on a Carnival cruise and had a bus driver drive us an hour and half to Negril to float down the Black River. All I can say is, SCAREY! Don't EVER EVER EVER go here if you are going to be riding or driving somewhere. I prayed the whole time that I would make it home to my kids and not on the side of a mountain somewhere in a burning heap of metal.

We couldn't stop for bathroom breaks for the whole hour and a half ride because the tour guide said "It's very dangerous and it's not safe to stop the whole way".

I will say the Black River in Negril was beautiful but it was not worth what he had to go through to get it.

It's really sad that it was so disappointing because Jamaica is the one place I've always wanted to go.
