Great ride down the Black River

WE booked a local boat and took a ride down the river, stopped for a great local snack at a little shack called Mothers. Fantastic experience. Way off the beaten path.

We had a private tour of the black river. Our tour guide was very informative of the area. We love the areas beauty. The mangroves are beautiful. When the tour guide would come up on a crocodile he would call it to the boat. My husband held the arm of one of the crocodiles. From the mangroves, the birds and... More

I would say, after scuba diving, it was the most beautiful attraction at the Jamaica. The Black Ruver is famous for its rare flora and fauna, including mangroves and American crocodiles. We have a great tour guide who told us about ecology, history and knowledge of the species of birds and wildlife in the area. He was looking for crocodiles... More

Great experience. I would do the appleton tour to get this in with the price along with the us falls. The trip along the river was amazing and got to see some great wild life. The tour guide was great and had an answer to every question which was amazing. He was very nice and stopped at every crocodile and... More

Aside from the tour operators, if you talk very nicely, preferably in patios to one of the fishermen on the west side of the river then you just might get to fish. Just be aware others want the fish also, various birds and crocodiles. The river is the drain for the Great Morass and teems with somewhat now shy wildlife.... More

We booked the river tour through the Sensatori hotel where we stayed, the trip was in conjunction with the YS falls and Appleton Rum Factory tour, after an hour and a half ride from the hotel we arrived at the dock where the boat was waiting for us. We booked the trip upon recommendation from other guests at our hotel... More

I wasn't initially excited for this tour, mostly because I was tired and broke. But, I'm glad I ended up going with my friends because we got see a bunch of crocodiles in the water, birds flying across the greenery, and even a beautiful crab crawling up the branches. The tour guide had a charm to him, with his witty... More

Black river is a hustling fishing market town which has changed over the years. There used to be a number of restaurants that I enjoyed visiting but are no longer here. Nonetheless there are some good places to eat like Waterloo House, you can also go on the Black River safari cruise.

Trip on the black river to see the mangrove trees and to feed the crocodiles, really interesting. The captain gives you all history plus local information on the river and calls the crocs to be fed. Trip lasts for about an hour.
