About
Modra spilja (The Blue Cave), located in a small cove of Balun on the island of Biševo. The cave itself is 24 meters long, 10–12 meters deep and up to 15 meters high, while the entrance to it measures 1.5 meters high and 2.5 meters wide.In the year 1884. baron Eugene von Ransonnet described and depicted it. On his suggestion the entrance to the cave has been enlarged, making it this way accessible to the entire world. The cave has two entrances: the smaller one artificially widened and deepened so that the boat could sail through, and the wider one, located at the southern part of the cave – the underwater passage, through which the magical game of the light and water is performed…Depending on the season, the ideal moment to visit the cave is between 9 and 13 o’clock in the morning.

We were very lucky that being early season there were few people visiting yet, so we had almost ten minutes inside the Cave and a very clear interesting explanation from our guide..... wonderful experience. (although I'm sure in the height of season with queues, it may not be such a pleasant experience, think carefully before making the journey).

Checking out this cave is a short but cool 5 minute experience. You'll wait in line a bit shorter if you go early in the morning. You go in, the guide tells you the caves history, you enjoy the beautiful blue light reflections and you go out. It isn't much but its definitely unique and worth it.

This is a must see. The cave itself is remarkable. Sadly because that is the case there is usually a giant wait. There is a small bay with a decent beach, a cafe, a bar and ice cream stand to kill the time. The cave is definitely worth the wait. What a colour!

If i could put a -10 rating, i would.
I never write reviews, if i do, they are positive, but this....
The people that await you at the bay are extremely painful to deal with, arrogant and screaming at you. We have been there 10 years ago and you paid 3x less, you entered with your own boat, and stayed as much as you wanted, and every tourist was happy. Now, they put 2 barking dogs, i.e. caveman to protect the cave from tourists with screaming and almost physical fighting with them on how they didnt know the rules, even though the rules arent written anywhere.
We didnt enter - so shouldnt you.

We were lucky to be the only boat. The guide told interesting stories. The cave is really small. You enter kneelong down in a boat which is cool. The natural blue colour of water is amazing. A great 7-minute experience if you are the only one. With waiting it could be disappointing.

If anyone is considering going on a tourist excursion to the green and blue caves on vis island croatia....do not use Blue cave excursions (http://www.blue-cave-excursions.com/hr/)! The people that try to sell you tickets are rude and demeaning and honestly treat tourists as meat for the fire. Other companies are much more friendly and inviting and even thou may cost a bit more, you will enjoy a more intimate experience.

I have traveled all over Europe and and live in Germany and never in my life so pissed off at the approach and responses from the sales person at the Hvar marina. Do not waste your time especially if they find out you have used one of their competitors. Once they know they treat you like crap....I love croatia and the people but these people do not represent their country.

On another note...the locations are amazing. Just don't give this crappy company your money....others deserve it way more

The visit to Blue Cave was the wow moment for our holidays in Croatia!!! The entry into the cave was a bit scary because of the size of its mouth since one has to bend down in the boat.

I would strongly recommend a visit to Blue Cave...

Beautiful nature and surroundings, overcrowded in the summer peak, unfortunately, but well worth seeing! If you are visiting Vis, do not miss this trip for the world! Go to Komiža and then take a day trip to Biševo. Visit the Blue Cave in the noon time (best reflection effect, it really is fluorescent, sapphire blue, everything glows in that water), and then spend the day swimming and relaxing on the sandy beach called Porat with crystal clear water.
Please, do take a speed boat there and back (ride takes about 15 minutes, instead of hour or even more), especially if you are feeling seasick, don't let it ruin your day! Take sandwiches with you (it will save you money), and treat yourself with a nice cold beer once you're there. Have a great vacation! :)

We went yesterday with the crew of M/B.Edi from Hvar town to the Blue and Green caves and the quaint little town of Komisa on the island of Vis.

The atmosphere was laid back and very friendly. Staff worked hard to prepare lunch on the boat. Very tasty tuna pate, cabbage salad, grilled fish or chicken and of course white wine. Pretzels or chips could be bought on the boat the whole time.

When in the green cave the boat just stops outside and everyone literally just jumped in. There were life vests to wear if needed.

At the blues caves, we took a small boat in. Absolutely gorgeous.

The tour continued by boat to the little fishing. Village of Komiza where we had free time to swim or relax. The whole tour was from approximately 9-17:00 and cost 400kuna for
adults and 200for children..

Blue cave is beautiful yes and a beautiful natural phenomenon but it’s not so beautiful it’s worth the effort it takes and what you have to endure to see it. Keep in mind, your stay in the cave lasts less than 5 minutes!! It takes at least an hour from Split, you have to wait for boarding even with a tour operator to get a ticket, the entire boarding process is like a factory.

Typically if you want to go see blue cave in an economical way, you end up signing for an “island hopping tour” that costs over 100$ because it doesn’t make economical sense for a tour operator to spend 1 hour each way from/to split by boat for a 5 minute tour. So after blue cave is done, you go to other islands you probably wouldn’t have chosen to go to it you had a choice.

Anyway here is a best photo of my blue cave visit. You’re in the cave for 5 minutes, less if you think about it since the boat is circling in the cave for all tourists in the boat to get a view, and you’re angling to take a good photo. Even if you don’t take photos the visit is wayyyyyyyyy too short for you to even soak it in. But if you think the below photo is worth it, then to each their own!

I would not do this tour if I know now what I do!
