Bear Notch, hands down is the favorite country ski experience for my husband and I each year we visit Jackson. . Located in Bartlet, NH It is the one place that consistently has snow when larger places in the area don't. The owners of Bear Notch have even shoveled snow onto the trails to keep things going in years with less snow.
The trails are well groomed with a nice network for beginner and intermediate. There are some higher mountain views as well as those along the river. The trails through the woods are very pretty as well. I especially love seeing the wide stream with low waterfalls that traverse through one section of the property. Bear Notch is also very family friendly and allows well controlled dogs on the trails.

We snowshoed at Bear Notch three days ago and had an amazing experience. The trails were groomed to perfection and we were met by a staffer who was knowledgeable and attentive. We spent about three hours on the trails and really enjoyed the trails by the river. An added bonus was when we happened upon a moose, quietly munching on some local vegetation. We shoed quietly by and got some incredible photos. Just get out and experience the outdoors, folks. Getting your feet snowy is a great way to spend the day!

Bear Notch was recommended by the concierge at our hotel. It is a family-owned business. There were an extensive number of trails of differing ability levels. We snowshoed, but most of the visitors were cross-country skiing. There were shared trails, and many of them were dog friendly. Trails were well groomed - excellent skiing conditions even in the afternoon! We will return.

Spent this morning snowshoeing Bear Notch’s perfectly groomed, well marked trails through beautiful scenery. Staff were friendly and gave us personalized suggestions for trails. Though the lot was full we felt like we had the place to ourselves. This place is a gem, we will be back with the kids.

This is my favorite place to XC ski in the Mt. Washington Valley. It is located on Rte. 302, west of the Attitash ski area and the Bartlett Village town center. The river trails across Rte. 302 are my favorite, as well as the Yates Farm and Fields of Attitash trails. These are all easy trails with easy hills and offer views of the frozen Saco River, rock ledges, and the mountains at Attitash ski area. Once I saw otter slide tracks near the river at Yates Farm.
Grooming is excellent and skiing with my dog is a blast. If you prefer not to cross Rte. 302 with your dog and skis, buy a ticket at Bear Notch and drive to the Fields of Attitash and other river trails behind the Attitash Mountain Village resort using the Bear Notch trail map to locate them. These trails also have the side benefit of being lightly used. The Garland family who run Bear Notch are helpful and friendly. It is a gem of a trail system with some wild and scenic river views, and I have the happiest times skiing there. Pricing is modest, especially compared with alpine skiing, and I feel if I ski for a couple of hours I more than get my money's worth! I hope to get back this snowy winter for another perfect XC ski.

This is an excellent cc-ski place and has such a warm friendly feel that you feel at home. In fact it is family owned. They have the cutest warming hut with hot soup and fresh bread everyday for $4. Bear Notch is the locals best kept secret. It costs less money than some of the bigger resorts and has better skiing, because it is settled into the notch it gets better snow coverage. They usually keep snow longest in the spring too. There hasn't been a ton of snow this winter so I decided to drive up to Bear Notch today and as usual the conditions were excellent. Luckily we got a few fresh inches yesterday that made all the difference. Adult tickets $18 and kids under 16 ski free!

The trails are varied, the views are spectacular, the rates are most reasonable, and grooming happens every night. This is a great place for ski touring or snowshoeing. Excellent trail maps are are at help.

Had a great time cross country skiing with my wife and dog (samoyed). Everyone on the trail were friendly, even the dogs! We primarily came to try a winter sport with our pooch. Parts of the trailer were a little icing after a couple of warm days but we’re still quite enjoyable.
One tip I’d give is that they only accept Cash. The lady was nice enough to not accept our money because we didn’t have enough. Instead we mailed them a cheque after we got back home. Well remember to bring cash next time.

A great place to snowshoe in ski country! It feels like you are going back in time as you drive in and buy your pass in an old farmhouse living room! The trails were great, well groomed, and plenty of options! Loved our day in the trails through the woods!

Bear Notch X-Country Ski Touring Center is a unique and special place to enjoy a day of x-country skiing in the White Mtns of NH. My husband and I have stopped here during our annual winter get away for many years. For all these reasons it's becoming one of our favorite places: a variety of easily accessed well groomed trails through lovely wooded mountain glades and beside scenic flowing streams, reasonably priced trail fees, family owned, friendly and never crowded even when the parking lot is full, a funky barn to relax in and choose from variety of crock pot soups and fresh baked bread that is for sale every day from 12-1:00.
