This is a free museum. It is fairly small. For a small place it has a varied amount of history and artifacts. It probably will take about 45 minutes to see. 2 of the three out buildings are air conditioned. This was a nice brief stop to break up the monotony of a long road trip. I bought a glass there because it was reasonably priced and said Winnemucca on it and most people probably haven’t heard of this town.

We enjoyed going to the museum. They have a great display of the early settlers artifacts and historical pieces and an awesome walking tour to the out buildings. They include a church, livery stable, and victorian house. We enjoyed the local school kids artwork displayed throughout the museum.
The museum is free and is definitely a must see while you are in Winnemucca.

The museum is a wonderful showcase of the history of Humboldt County, NV. The people who worked at the museum were friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable. The building is modern, has easy access and plenty of parking. I will definitely visit again!

Only in Winnemucca for one night - not much to do - but we read about the Museum and thought "why not"? Definitely the right decision. We were there over about 1.5 hours - so much to see. Well put together - the exhibits flowed nicely. Lots of history on display.

We were leaving Winnemucca on Wednesday, and they were closed on Monday and Tuesday. So, we stopped before we got on the road home. Wish we'd had a whole day here. We were doing family history research, and Jerry, the curator and manager of the museum was a wealth of information on Unionville, a ghost town that my husband's relatives lived at in it's hayday in the 1860's to 1880's. He invited us into a back room with folders of information and a 100 yr old map of the town when it had 100's of residents. He was a great help with our personal interests. Otherwise, the Museum has great local displays of local native interests, and also of the Chinese who were instrumental in the railroad and mining industries here. Two other building on the premises are preserved with local daily living artifacts and well restored. A great little local museum.

For those who have never been to Winnemucca,NV, this is a definite must to learn about the area. We were greeted at the door by a warm and friendly gentleman, a lifelong resident of Winnemucca who in a quiet way was obviously delighted to share his knowledge of the exhibits and the area. Winnemucca, as it turn outs, has quite a history involving the railroads, Charlie Chaplin, Chief Winnemucca, mining and ranching. The museum is well laid out with a printed guide that includes just the right amount of information. Charming, informative, clean and comfortable. Highly recommended.

The hours make this a must-see stop. The museum houses some amazing local artifacts. Who would have guessed that Winnemucca had a Chinatown? ( Remember the Transcontinental Railroad?) There are also some wonderful Indian artifacts. You'll be glad you stopped by,

Best of the regional museums I have visited. It is small but optimized to capture the essence of the region’s history. The curator Jerry was extraordinarily solicitous in providing an informal tour. He was knowledgeable and offered some unique insights from a Native American perspective.

We went and visited the museum and found it to be quite a gem - displays very well laid out, a video of some giant water creature on with seats so one can watch the video, then walk around the museum and there are more displays outside, in the grounds - cars and machinery - there is a small gift shop with interesting crystals and various artifacts for sale. There is no entrance fees and visitors are asked for donations only - there is little sign - to be quite honest if a visitor does not want to donate, it is ok too - it’s a good place to spend an hour or so - it’s not far from the main town area and well worth a visit. The explanations along with the displays are not only interesting but easy to understand. The museum is not overly big - there are tables and bench seats by the car park that is shaded and visitors can sit and rest a little there. An interesting, peaceful and quiet place - I will definitely return for another visit.

Free admission, only opens 4 days a week, closed on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Free parking. I went there because my grandma was born in this city, found my Great Grand Father's name in the display. No internet service, but you may ask them for a free wifi password.
