I don't gamble at all, however, my wife does play the slots and blackjack. She had an okay time and came out ahead. My son (who is not legal but an older teenager) was very disappointed that the arcade area closed early and that there weren't any attendants to who he could redeem his winning tickets from the remaining games that were still available but did find some of the games, even for a tourist location, overpriced. We found parking to be easy and convenient. The grounds were clean. The indoor casino area, however, smells strongly of tobacco smoke, and really was quite a turn-off. The casino was taking Covid practices seriously but even with masks, the cigarette odor was overpowering at times. We had a meal at the Boomtown Steakhouse. The service in the steakhouse was amazing,

My husband and I enjoy Boomtown, and usually stay there whenever we go to Reno. It’s off to itself and in a quiet area with pleasing mountain views. We have never stayed in a bad room there, though we did once have a noisy experience with loud upstairs neighbors and no other rooms available! Overall we have found the rooms to be clean and well appointed. We often check in late and have been warmly welcomed and accommodated by Kristen at the reception desk. She understands hospitality! The casino has all of the latest slots. Can’t say we have done well there, but haven’t come out too badly and we always have fun. Currently the buffet restaurant is not open, but Mel’s (at reduced hours) and the steakhouse are open, plus the sandwich shop (try the chicken salad) and Peet’s Coffee. Boomtown is our Reno home base!

Hotel is ok for a day or two, but by no means is it a resort. Mels Diner has good food, friendly staff and a varied menu. The rooms we stayed in could use a touch-up.

Have been visiting Boomtown for 40+ years. It's sad decline continues. The slots are tight. Limiting food options (ie one restaurant) during the early morning hours (6-7am). Employees would not look someone in the eye if the patron was wearing a mask. A ton of fond memories of visiting with my father when I was growing up. He'd be rolling over in his grave if he could see it now. I'm hoping that it will turn around.

I visit Reno two or three times a year and usually stay and gamble in one of the large hotel/casinos in or near downtown. I often drove by Boomtown on the way into the city but this time decided to stop there for a change from the glitter and noise of downtown. I was really surprised when I got inside and found how nice the place was (you couldn't really tell from a quick drive-by). It was clean, not smoky and well stocked with hundreds of top end and new slot machines (my favorite). I also ate dinner in the Boomtown steak house which was excellent - the filet mignon just the right size and cooked perfectly to my liking. The prices were a fraction of the high end steak houses in other gambling facilities and the service was attentive but not intrusive. All the staff members that I encountered were friendly and helpful. There is also a campground located behind Boomtown for campers and RVs but I didn't stop to check it out this time. This will be my go-to place for future visits to Reno.

Booked here, overnight, while on a trip to Medford Oregon for my daughter's wedding. And I'm glad we did. Not only did the room exceed Best Western's high standards, but the casino experience was over the top! Guests were challenged to play $25 and if they lost it, the casino would reimburse them $25 more to play with. We played for hours and couldn't lose the initial $25 and we had a ball doing it. Now we stay & play here anytime we are in the area.

This place is awful. Check in was slow the rooms were dirty. I had this short bartender who was very rude little redhead I didnt get her name. The middle bar was very loud and I couldn't get a seat. The only good part of my stay was the bartender Daniel. But even his good service didn't make up for the bad experience with the rest of my stay.

Love coming to the bar when Daniel is working! He makes the BEST lemon drop! Much better than Albert. Daniel is very attentive and always very friendly. A must stop if you are passing through Reno or are a local looking for a delicious drink with great service!

Boomtown Casino Incident – Saturday, November 30, 2017

My husband and I stopped by Boomtown Casino on our way home from Virginia City on Saturday, November 30, 2017. We thought we would play a bit and have dinner so that we would wait out the traffic we were expecting.

We did play for about an hour when my husband decided that he wanted to eat at the Lobster Buffet. When we got to the line, I asked if we could play a bit longer before we ate. It was an expensive buffet and I was not very hungry.

About 15 minutes later, my husband told me he was feeling anxious. (This typically means that my diabetic husband needs to eat.) So, I insisted we get in the line.

It was close to 4:30pm when we got in the buffet line. Immediately we saw Security rushing to the restaurant. Standing on the other side of the gate was a man with a Chihuahua.

The man was insisting that the dog was a service dog and was not causing a commotion. (We were playing right outside the restaurant. If the dog was barking or making a scene we would have heard it.) Despite the the fact that the man was insisting his dog was a Service Dog, the Guards insisted that he needed to leave.

The man did agree to leave if “just give me a refund.” Now, let’s hit the pause button. He said it was a Service Dog. That should end the discussion. But, it didn't. He wants his money back. Forty dollars is a lot to pay for a buffet you’re not allowed to enjoy. I would expect that Security Guards in a place that serves free booze would be trained to de-escalate situations. I would be wrong.

Of all the ways that the staff could have responded to the request for a refund, the staff responded with a very indignant “That's not going to happen.”

The man once again offered to leave if he would be given a discount. Suddenly, everyone was moving. The man was violently pushed by as many as 6 guards to the back of the restaurant where they proceeded to beat him with excessive force. A bystander received a large cut on the arm and was bleeding profusely by something that came off the wall.

I was so upset that there was no way I could eat there. My husband agreed to get me out of there. As we walked towards the exit, I asked a Guard if it were me, with my service dog would he ruff me up like that? He looked at me and asked if I had any idea “what happened in Las Vegas last month?” Please tell me what does a mass shooting have to do with a man with a Chihuahua? He then informed us that we could file a report at the desk.

We headed for the security desk to file a report. There was a money machine adjacent to the desk so I decided to change our voucher for cash so we could leave. We would not be playing anymore. While I was at the machine two men in line behind me got impatient. They started reaching over and around me to touch the screen while I was attempting to get my cash. I turned to the one and firmly told him “YOU NEED TO BACK UP!” My fist was locked and loaded and ready to defend myself. You see, I am a combat veteran with severe PTSD. I often need to bring a service dog with me. This whole incident was a HUGE trigger for me.

After witnessing the incident, I was not able to leave the house alone for an entire week. I am still on the verge of tears at most times. My sleep, which is never good, is more disturbed. My anxiety level is extremely high.

Needless to say, I don't think my husband and I will ever visit your casino again. I will tell everyone that I know, in person and on social media, that your establishment does not honor the ADA and may use excessive force on you for having a dog.

Was keeping that man’s forty dollar’s worth losing customers? Was it worth this incident that I know my husband and I were not the only ones effected by?

We LOVE keno, but we wonder why you do not give as many points towards keno as you do the machines.? It seems like our points slowly accumulate although we play almost nothing but keno. We love the tournaments and have not missed one in around 10 years. Boomtown is the ONLY casino we ever go to
