I've been dropping by this place for decades when visiting the Reno/Sparks area, even from back in the days when it was the Plantation Casino. If you're looking for a glamorous, glitzy mega-casino environment, this is not the place for you. But if you're looking for a fun place to play or hang out, where people seem to be enjoying themselves and the staff is friendly, this is a pretty good choice.

On this visit, I enjoyed a decent meal in the coffee shop, where I ordered off the menu rather than selecting the buffet. Food and service were good - plenty of food, fast, friendly service. There are other dining and drinking options available as well, although I did not sample any of those so cannot comment on them.

The casino appears larger on the inside than it looks from the outside. From the outside, it looks more like a locals joint than anything else. Once inside, it feels like it sprawls a bit and as if it has a floor plan that was just randomly thrown together - which, I guess, is part of the fun. There are plenty of slots and gaming devices, as well as a small pit with good blackjack games. Unlike many casinos in the area, this place allows doubling down on any two cards in their single deck blackjack and still offer a full 3 to 2 payout on a BJ. That makes the game more fun for the player and shows that this place is willing to give the player a good run for their money. I like that.

I'm not a glamor and glitz guy - I just like to have a good time, hanging out where people are not pretentious and are simply there to enjoy themselves. This place is a good venue for that.

This casino is a little gem in Spark's, NV about 15 minutes from Downtown Reno. If your on a budget this is the place for you, 90 % of the slots are penny's. They have a nice bar area that has slots at the bar and while playing you drink for free, now that's a deal. They have a buffet, that is average and the cost is $8.99. I call this place the Mom & Pop's of casino's. It is really run great. Enjoy.

My wife and I enjoyed the restaurant, and would have enjoyed the casino had it not been so smoky. Had I not had health issues it would be a really nice place to gamble and hang out.

I went to rail city yesterday (7/6/18) for the very first time. My family (mom and 2 sisters) had come from central California to visit me. My family and my two daughters decided to eat at the buffet at Rail City because we heard that if you signed up for a player's card we would receive a free buffet meal. We arrived at the buffet at 7:51 (that's what the receipt said and this comes into play later) The buffet was very small. It had a salad area, a couple soups, and meat carving section (the meat was all gone) and about 10 choices. The food was horrible. We tried a little bit of everything. The meat was grey. The deserts tasted artificial. The rice was hard. The only thing that was ok was the mash potatoes WITHOUT gravy because the gravy was so gross. We stayed for a little over an hour and I started feeling sick as we were leaving. By the time we got home everyone was complaining that they didn't feel good. We all were throwing up. I felt stabbing pain in my stomach. Even my 2 year old was sick. The next morning I called Rail City to see what could be done about this. I pushed extension after extension and no one answered, it went to voicemail every time. So me and my mom and sister decided to go there to address this. We get to the buffet and ask to speak to the manager who's name is Sunny apparently. She heard our story and rolled her eyes and walked away as if we were irritating her. Next thing I know, security shows up and says "what do you want?" I tell him what happened and he says "so you want your money back? is that what you want? not going to happen." Now the food and beverage director named Michael Norton comes out and asks what happened. I tell him we ate the night before and we all got sick. He starts questioning me about how long it takes me to get from Rail City to my house which is local and telling me my story is "impossible" He then points his finger in my face and says "I'm done talking to you!" So I start looking for the corporate number because I can't believe the way im being treated and he starts talking to my mom who is about to cry. He's interrogating her and asking what she wants and telling her she didn't get sick from the buffet. I asked what his name was and he reaches out to give me his card and takes it back out of my hand and says "I'm not going to talk to you anymore" and starts yelling at my mom. I tried to explain what my mom is saying because at this point she is shaking and he makes a talking motion with his hand and screams "STOP TALKING!" to me. So I leave and go find another manager (Andrei) and my mom comes back crying (I don't know what was said after I left) Andrei asks what happened and we tell him and he was very nice to us. Without being told to enter our conversation Michael Norton walks up to me, my mom, my sister, and Andrei the manager and starts acting aggressive to us. He tells my mom she needs to write a report and looks at me and starts raising his voice in front of the manager. I said "why are you talking to me like this? I'm just talking to you" And he yells "THATS ALL YOU DO!! IS TALK!!!" right in front of the manager. We get pulled aside and the manager says he is going to talk to Michael about his behavior (I don't know if he actually did) and that we needed to fill out a report about us getting sick. We fill out the report and hand it back. The manager tells us we can wait for him to talk to his boss about if we can get a refund or not so we wait. He comes back and says his boss said no. For $54. They makes hundreds of thousands of dollars and after we were treated horribly we still were denied a measly $54. BY THE GENERAL MANAGER! We were told we could have a sun visor for our car that says RAIL CITY on it. No thanks. Andrei felt really bad so he said he would put some offers on our cards (not sure if they are there or not) My mom left in tears and I left disgusted. I have NEVER been treated so unprofessionally and flat out mean by a manager in my whole life! He didn't get increasingly frustrated, he came out at a 10 ready to fight and treat us terribly. He didn't care about what we were saying. He was aggressive, intimidating, belittling, degrading, and a bully. I will never again step foot in that building and I hope anyone who reads this won't either. This is the worse customer service I have ever experienced. If corporate reads this please contact me. I am not done with this. I would like the cameras viewed so he can be held accountable for his actions. I have no reason to lie and no reason to go through hell for $54. As a company they should have done the right thing especially after being treated so bad. Yet the general manager would not approve a $54 refund. Horrible. Do not come here unless you want to be treated like trash and made to get like a liar and just someone trying to pull a fast one, maybe because they have so maybe druggies and pan handling people wandering around. So gross.

Beat buffet in Reno/Sparks for the price. Good salad bar and fried chicken is delicious. As with most slots, it is up and down, but on the whole they pay out according to what is put in them. Nice, friendly atmosphere.

The food here is very cheap in the buffet. Breakfast about $5 and dinner $8 with coupons/deals everywhere. The breakfast has a decent variety and it was not terrible. Just nothing memorable and some you wouldn't want again. Fruit is good and gravy was good. Too bad biscuit was hard as a rock. The scrambled eggs were not fresh.
As for dinner, there is a bit of variety and I have to admit the soup was good. But I don't go to a buffet for soup. Yhe fried chicken and fish were not fresh. The salisbury steak was flavorless. The "prime rib" was cheap roast beef and dull. Stick with the fruit, soup, and whatever may look good. Too bad the rolls were even cold. Dessert is fair and plain. Overall just mediocre and too many better choices nearby.

My wife and I stopped in on Sept. 6th about 12:30a.m. to use our free play. We went over to the Ale House Bar, where the bartender asked if we needed a cocktail, I said black coffee for me and White Zin Wine for my wife, he asked if we were Platinum Players , as they apparently are the only ones who can have premium orders?? When I just saw a off duty cocktail server who ordered a Crown Royal Shot and a High end Beer??? We are players at this Casino who have been longstanding customers, but to be harassed and insulted by this situation regarding this, is going to run us off! It seems you would rather take care of your off duty personnel than a
player who has been more than loyal to your Casino! I know some players (your tweakers for example) will just come in and play pennies to get a shot of Hennessy and a Heineken, or a high end drink, but we have been known players there for years and every time there is a new hire, we have to go through the game to get a cheap glass of wine and a cup of coffee! May I suggest that the bar tender and/or the cocktail server, serve the player- get their card number and call their supervisor like they should to see if this guest warrants another round? That way you don't insult your guest and the responsibility of serving out what you call high end drinks, goes directly to the supervisor in charge and not a bartender or cocktail waitress!,

The Rail City Casino is like many of the smaller local gaming sites. Locals are the thrust of the advertising and deals. The Ale House has excellent food and drink - very friendly. I gave up eating at the City Cafe because the food was "D" or "C" quality. Overall you can have fun at this locals staple.

We were visiting from CA and had heard good reviews about this place so we drove from time share in downtown Reno to Rail City and received terrible service from buffet staff.
First they made a big deal about a party of 8 and said, sarcastically, that we would acquire an automatic 18 percent gratuity for having such a large party. My wife told them, "No problem". I decided to split our party so I wouldn't have to give them 18 percent - they didnt deserve it. They also kept discouraging us from getting buffet because there was only 20 min left. We insisted and they became more rude. They said we would have a wait even though there were plenty of tables available. We waited only 10 minutes and half of us got the buffet, which wasn't anything to write home about. The rest of us ordered from menu - it was pretty decent.
The place was completely smoke filled to the point of wanting to barf! A small, cramped casino with no ventilation - a terrible, unhealthy choice for my kids and family.
