- ShivenMumbai, India4 contributionsBest destination in RenoOne of the most well designed and maintained riverfront, I came across during my worldwide travels. River bed has been landscaped to form small rapids that are favorite for tube rafting. Walkways on both sides of the riverside are lined with popular bars and restaurants. I was staying in a nearby hotel property that gave me opportunity to scan the length and breadth of riverside. My morning walks extended all the way to parks in the residential areas. Lot of fishing spots attract anglers. River has an active cultural area. Amphitheater is popular weekend destination for musical and art events. Tourist attractions such as Casinos and night spots are on Virginia Street that cuts across this area in the middle. If you are in Reno for few days, choose property in this neighborhood to make best of this attraction.Visited July 2022Traveled as a coupleWritten July 10, 2022
- Steve S20 contributionsRiverwalk DistrictI visited early Dec 2022 and the previous week a big snowstorm came through. So it was too cold to stroll around Riverwalk very much. But I love the Truckee River and understand you can walk in either direction. Will try again when weather is more favorable.Visited December 2022Written December 15, 2022
- TallahasseeMarkTallahassee, Florida432 contributionsGo for the Restaurants and for a StrollSeveral indoor-outdoor restaurants along the Riverwalk. River was almost dry due to drought but there were a lot of performers, loud music, and unusual characters strolling along the river. Several restaurants to choose from with many different types of food choices.Visited October 2021Written October 27, 2021

Loved the scenery in this area but seeing the large amount of homeless folk leaves you thinking if the state can provide more resources for these affected folk. The walk itself is very nicely set up with benches and art and close to some shops and restaurants. focus on the western side away from town where less homeless are. We found easy free parking on the street 2 blocks away from the walk.

We went to the Riverwalk after buying lunch to have a picnic near the water. On the way, a mentally ill man took a swing at us and chased us around near the arch. By the time we got to the Riverwalk we thought we were safe but he came back and threw down a garbage can next to us.
Typically I have no problem with homeless people gathering but due to this we felt extremely unsafe.

So the river area itself is very beautiful but we walked it and basically its home too many transients. So it smells awful like urine and poop as you walk alongthe trail. People are openly handling their business outside we unfortunately witnessed 😒 some very yucky stuff. We did also witness some youth out there providing meals which was nice. But probably not family friendly.

What a dump! Reno is a city that has given up, and nowhere is that more apparent than at the Riverwalk.
Homeless people have overrun all of the public spaces and the detritus of camping, bathing and general residential activities is everywhere.
The odor of urine near the "Believe" letter sculpture was overpowering. Please don't consider this to be a family appropriate place.

Walking along the river in downtown Reno is a delightful way to spend a few hours. There are many restaurants that are serving outside. On very hot days it is refreshing to go swimming or tubing down the Truckee river.

#Home Means Shop along the river. Small locally owned shop along your walk of the river.... My there are sooo many small quaint shops.
Warm, welcoming, friendly, and most essentially accessible and affordable. The gentleman at the counter was available for any sizing, pricing, best gift buy advice. #WestCoast #AmexsmallbusinessSaturday2023
While I was visiting and the shop was directly (almost) across from our residence it was a convenient 2 min walk. Before I forget check out the antique cars in the elevator
Ok, There an @IG spot in the back to take a selfie!
There a wonderful selection of home items to gift or keep for yourself.
Knick knacks, journals, glasses, cards, soooo many selections.
Sweat shirts, t shirts, and more.
A must visit
Best part of my day Petting Molly the BEAUTIFUL dog - for who i didnt see until another female shopper started talking to her. It was the most therapeutic part of my shopping day.
A + Must visit and definitely you'll find something for someone or most importantly "you" Enjoy fellow travelers.... #Brooklyn Proud!

I enjoyed my brief walk over the Truckee River. There were many bridges and I could even put my hand in the water. This walkway was in Downtown Reno. There were a lot of homeless people nearby but no one harassed me.

This was a great walk. In my country, we have tons of rubbish lining the river banks. Here you still have trash but so much less. It feels as if the trash is managed. Amazing to walk through a city centre following a beautiful river.

Beautiful area to walk along the river. The loveliest part of downtown Reno. You can walk for mikes along the river or find a bench to sit and watch the river flow. The air is fresh and cool along the river. I recommend walking here.

Downtown Reno features a Riverwalk District with a several choices of shops, bistros and cafés, bars, taverns and some local indoor and outdoor entertainment venues.
As you walk and wind your way around the few blocks in every direction you can tour the many businesses in this loosely defined district. You can take your time and can wander a few blocks in every direction to check out the many local businesses in this loosely defined district.
The Truckee River, which flows through the city, and the Riverwalk District, provides the River portion of the river walk. I found the area to be a clean and nice reprieve from the smoke filled casinos and during great weather I’d highly recommend it for those traveling with family and children.
During my walk is when I found the Nevada Museum of Art, the National Automobile Museum, Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts and the Truckee River. I have posted separate reviews of each of these locations.
The Riverwalk is close enough to the casinos and makes for a nice walk. I was lucky in early November that the 2 days while I was in Reno the weather was near perfect and allowed me to wander and take my time to walk around the area to explore. The mornings were cool but it did warm up nicely.
During my walk I noticed plenty of public and metered parking around the Riverwalk district if you are not already staying a casino. There are additional parking areas in a couple nearby parking garages.

Check the Reno Vistors Bureau. Rent snow shoes and hike chickedee ridges at Mt. Rose Meadows (about one hour up, take water) see a panoramic view of the Lake Tahoe.
Where would you park

There are parking options ranging from garges, nearby casinos to local side streets. Island Ave near Wingfield Park appeared to have plenty of quiet and free spots to park.

How far is the River Walk from the Silver Legacy Hotel?
Going to be here next week and looking for places to get out and eat, shop and just take a break.

Looks like several people have already answered your question. I would walk south through the casinos and out the door of the ElDorado its a very quick walk 5 - 8 minutes along the old strip to the River. From there you can decide where you want to go - up or down River.

For folks who have been on The Riverwalk in December, are businesses still operating such as shops and cafe's? Thanks for your help.

Yes, business will be open all year, sans the outdoor eating areas. More businesses and shops coming in all the time.

I'm new to Reno. Exactly where is the Riverwalk, from what street/block to where. Best place to park?

It runs east and west through downtown. Start at any of the downtown hotels just go south to the Riverwalk area. It is a rather short walk to most of the river area.
