We truly enjoyed ourselves at the Cal-Neva Casino. Workers were super friendly and there was a lot of camaraderie between employees, which is always great to see. The food is great in their restaurant, and the prime rib was super and a great deal. The Texas hold-um tournaments are so reasonable priced and they have them daily. We visited here twice while on our Reno trip. The atmosphere is very relaxed, and the live music was super. Street parking is available and lots also for only $5 for 4 hours nearby. It is attached to the Silver Legacy and Circus Circus with walkways.

We love Club Cal Neva for it's "old school" original Reno casino feel and flavor, friendly and helpful staff too. The Top Deck restaurant in the casino is always consistent, great comfort food for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Staff is very friendly and cheerful at the Top Deck. Shoutout to the Siri family for keeping this downtown Reno destination alive and well.

I would give this place 0 stars if I could. A security guard was constantly harassing me and my cousin until we left. The only good thing about that place was the rooftop diner. I will never go back.. Stay away!

No reason to go here anymore. The casino is useless…..no poker room and no places to eat and there is nothing left at this end of town now that Harrah’s is closed. Be merciful and shut it down before the rats and cockroaches do. It is filthy and the once venerable Top Deck restaurant is a joke. Has the health inspector ever been here or is he on the take?

If a casino isn't willing to give you free play for standing in line and getting their player's card, and eventually spending your money there, I'm not inclined to stay long. I mean, seriously, why wouldn't you want to get me started?

To break up our weekend of party and gambling, my wife decided it would be fun to tour the famous tunnels that were used by the gangsters of the 30's and 40's and later on by Sinatra's Rat Pack in the 50's and 60's. We were at the tour early and waited very patiently for the next tour. So about 20 mins . after the tour was suppose to start, our tour guide shows up with his last group. So we finally start our tour after another 10 mins waiting for the tour guide to finish talking to the last group. So we're already a half an hour late. So our guide takes my wife and I out to the back of the casino where some 1 room cottages are kept. But, the group that had just finished, keep following us. So the tour guide is now giving this other group a tour again. He started talking about the history or what went on in the cabins over time (i.e. Marilyn Monroe was killed by the Kennedy's and Sinatra, different conspiracies, and then he starts talking about the bible and the end of days...) This other group starts asking questions about the end of days. This goes on for about 15 mins. I'm thinking, where is all of this going. Finally we start walking back to the casino and all the guide could do is talk about how bad it smells down in the tunnels and that if it was ok, not to go there. I asked hey wait a minute, we wanted the tunnel tour and hear about the bootleg times and history. So he takes us into a concert hall where The Rat Pack would play, not interesting, just looking at an empty stage. So I ask him why we can't see the tunnels. He says he thinks something died in them and that's why they smell. SO we asked if we could check them out anyway. So he takes up thru some hallways that have been boarded up and used as storage areas for the casino. I asked again if this was a tour about the famous tunnels. He says this is it. I asked f we could ask for our money back and he replied, it would affect his pay, because he gets paid on how many people take the tour. I said this isn't a tour, but decided that I would say anything because my wife and I were the only one's on this tour. We're about 20 mins. into the"Tunnel Tour" and he gets paged. So he says he has to leave for another tour, and leaves us. I can't believe they would advertise something like this. anyway, that's my story about the Famous Tunnel Tour of the Cal Neva Casino.

Cal Neva is unique in Reno; rather than being a hotel-casino like the majority of the neighboring properties, it's a condo-casino. The hotel rooms have all been converted to private residence condos. So this review will be dedicated to the casino and the restaurants. The casino occupies 2 buildings, a west wing and an east; a walkway on the 2nd floor allows indoor foot traffic between the 2 buildings.

The west wing has a smaller casino area, but the poker room and restaurant are in the west wing. Try the chili dog in the small snack station just south of the table games - surprisingly good, as are all the offerings at this little greasy spoon. The restaurant upstairs offers a larger variety menu - food is good, but nothing spectacular. At $9.99 for a steak or a prime rib dinner, you'd have to expect that you're getting a great deal, not a great meal. As for the gaming, they have $3 blackjack tables during off-peak hours, where the patron can play 2 hands for $5 a hand (that's a great value). Roulette, 3-card poker, craps, Pai Gow poker games are available in the smallish table area. Slot machines everywhere.

The East wing has the same type games, but the gaming area is larger. There is a also karaoke bar, and the cashier's cage is located in the East wing (somewhat inconvenient, having to walk between buildings to cash out). The casino offers a sports book as well; all of the gaming needs of most casinos, at affordable betting denominations, typically starting at $5 dollars (translation - good value for the value bettor).

My only problem: At most casinos, dealers share their table tips. A dealer at Cal Neva told me the dealers kept their own tips, which was why she kept trolling us to tip her. At one point, she held up her $4 in tips and said, "this is all I have for dinner; we live off our own tips." So we tipped her $5 bucks a piece, only to come back 2 hours later and hearing her say the same to the next group of blackjack players. Wow, that's uncomfortable, bordering on solicitation. In 10 years of visiting Reno, I've only seen 2 dealers do this, both at this hotel; all other Cal Neva dealers were very nice and respectful and did not shill for tips. I've asked hotel management to watch out for this - definitely takes away from a otherwise fun, and budget friendly gaming experience.

On our last visit to Reno, we drop in on the Karaoke stage. It was packed with locals, and out of town visitors. The club has the stange set so each singer had a unique experience of being on center stage of CalNev. The atmosphere is energetic anf friendly. What variety of for a gambling estabishment. It is located down town Reno, close to so much for a special visit.
