We had one day available to go with our schedule . We took an Uber from pepper mill resort to Mt Rose Ski Lodge it was around $50 to go there but we where charged $80 to return , it wasn’t a bad drive maybe 20 minutes. we went during the week and it wasn’t crowded at all . The entire staff was friendly . We are at best beginner level and it offered many trails . I wish the gift shop had more of a selection for souvenir shirts but we have no complaints and if we are ever back will will go again for sure !

We recently retired to Reno and purchased a season's pass before we even moved. Spent 2 days discovering it over opening weekend. It has exceeded our expectations! It's a short drive from our current residence and will be about 15- 20 minutes from a new home we are building. The area has easy parking, nice lodge which isn't fully operational due to Covid, great runs, friendly staff and they're doing a great job enforcing mask wearing and social distancing. Such a treat to ski during pandemic. We're also Epic Pass holders and honestly I enjoyed Mt. Rose even more then the Vail owned areas. Plus I can see the runs from my house! I expect to be there very often and look forward to a great first season as "locals" 😎

Traveled from Houston Texas to Lake Tahoe for our first SKI experience.
The most inconsiderate bigoted establishment that we've patronized in a very long time. While participating in a beginner's ski session with alex and dean, my wife fails, lost a ski, had difficulty getting the boot latched back in place. Mind you this was at the beginning of the session. These two "instructors" were fully aware that my wife and I were beginners as were the other four skiers.
I attempted to help my wife back up to her feet and reattach her ski, while doing so the two "instructors" said nothing, did not offer to help, didn't ask if my wife was ok, didn't offer their expertise in reattaching the ski. They bypassed us with the rest of the group and proceeded with the beginner's ski session/lesson. My wife and I continued to struggle with the ski's until we decided to return to the lodge and end the horrible seemingly racist experience.
Alex and Dean (So called instructors), you're disgusting human beings. A lady in your care fails to the ground because she's out of control and you ignored her.

OK , I am bitter. Had my 1000 buck board stolen in 60 seconds that it took me to use the bathroom.
dont leave your gear unattended. There isnt a ski check. The Reno gangs hang out at Mt. Rose, steal gear, then turn it at the pawn shop for 1/10 the price.
this is a very bad problem. The local news did a feature on the gangs as Mt Rose.
why managment will not install a ski check like the rest of the Tahoe resorts is a mystery?
Make better choices for your ski selection. Dont go to Reno's Ghetto ski resort.

I'm going to rate this excellent... because I had a great time, and it's the only place I've ever skied.
We skied on 02/12 and 02/13/05... We got to Mt. Rose early.. around 8:00AM. We went on into the lodge and looked around. We went ahead and rented our equipment and got lift tickets in a package for beginners (my husband a rookie). The total was $108. We tried everything on, then went to get breakfast at the restaurant (which was good). NOTE: At the end of the day, they give out 1/2 off coupons for your next visit.
The staff was friendly and helpful. Like I said.. this was my first time skiing, so I don't know what other mountains are like. The lifts were great... The Ponderosa and Galena lifts for beginners.
I never did take the group lesson... my husband went ahead and dragged me onto the mountain... I recommend taking the lesson.
There were LOTS and LOTS of children there.. The instructors seemed to be WONDERFUL and patient.. teaching children as young as 4 years old. Snowboarding too..
There were also LOTS of trails for more advanced skiers- greens and blacks... too much for me to even think about.. but everyone looked like they were having a good time.

Stayed in Reno for 5 days. Mt. Rose is about 20-25 minutes away, very easy to get to. The beginners package which includes instruction, rental, and green lifts for $49 cant be beat. Linda instructed my wife and I and she was very experienced and patient. Everyone from the rental staff to the mountain staff are very nice.
If you are into high dollar fancy places you need to look elsewhere, but for straight forward skiing value this is great. Will return someday.

My family come to ski at Mt Rose every winter. Due to its high elevation, its snow quality is better than most other resorts in late March/early April. It's a half hour drive from Reno, where has plenty of lodging selections.

I rented from their rental department and at the end of the process they give you a milk crate you can put your boots/shoes, articles of clothing, etc. in the crate which they promised to keep safe, in return you get a poker chip with that basket's number on it. I put my brand new work boots in the crate and was given my one and only claim token. I went skiing all day and when I returned to the rental department I was told someone already picked up my milk crate. When I asked how that could happen when I had the only claim token for that basket the young woman told me that people just throw their tokens on a counter and grab their stuff. I was stunned that the boot check department was run that way. A manager came to help and then disappeared for a while during the search for my boots, in the meantime another employee came into the rental area with a picture of my boots on his phone. I told him that they were in fact my boots and in turn the young man laughed about it, which was ironic because I didn't think it was very funny. The manager then returned and told me that he located the boots and that an employee's son took them mistaking them for his own. I asked for that employee return my boots and was told that wasn't possible, I was told to return tomorrow to get my boots. I informed the manager guy that I was flying home the next day at 6 a.m. and needed my boots, he told me it wasn't possible given the time of day. So, the solution he came up with was to wait till the next day to then ship them to me and offer me a free pass for me trouble. A free pass when I was flying home the next day at 6:00 a.m. is a useless as anything can be. He then went on to tell me how rare a situation like this is, which was even more infuriating to have to hear how few times it had happened when it happened 100% of the time to me. I was given a pair of rental boots to wear to the car with an employee escorting me as to get the boots back from me before I left, I then drove home in my stocking feet. On my drive down the mountain I got a call from an employee saying the guy who stole my boots was willing to meet at a grocery store. I went to that grocery store and waited for an hour and he never showed up.
The next day I got a call from the employee who's son stole my boots saying he was sorry and would send them on Monday (as that day was sunday he wan't able to send them that day, I know for a fact FedEx is open on Sunday's), I didn't feel like arguing with him. He wanted to know my shirt size so he could include a shirt. ALL I WANTED WAS MY BOOTS BACK! I didn't want a free shirt, I didn't want a free pass to come another day, I didn't want to drive all over reno looking for a grocery store to make it convenient for the guy who stole my boots to return them.
They haven't sent my boots yet, they claimed they would send them Monday via overnight FedEx, I am interested to see if they are damaged in any way and if they do in fact show up on Tuesday.
The staff failed repeatedly to not only secure guests belongings but then the response to the theft of a guests boots by a family member of an employee I felt was handled in a way that would have been different had the thief not been related to an employee.
The rental department DOES NOT secure your belongings, DO NOT leave anything with them, there is no security whatsoever. Also, the staff needs training on how to respond to a guest when that guest has a problem of this nature. Overall I was most dissappointed with the staff specifically the managers who should have stepped up and insisted that the boots be returned asap, I couldn't understand why returning my boots was impossible?

Can we go inside Mt Rose Ski resort even though we are not skiing. Is there like a snow play inside for the kids and restaurants to eat?

Hi, We are coming from Los Angeles. I read in one review that altitude sickness can be a problem. Anyone out there from lower altitudes have experiences to share?

I've never encountered altitude sickness at Mt. Rose or anywhere, and I regularly backpack at altitudes of 8,000-10,000 feet. It won't be an issue.

Hello adventurer!
It will take approximately 20-25 min. To get to Mt Rose from GSR. Another 10 to Chickadee Ridge. I would speculate there will still be snow in a month. We just got 5-6 inches in the higher elevations last weekend. I suggest calling Mt. Rose to make sure they are still open for rentals. If not, Squaw and Alpine have announced that they are open until sept. You'd probably be able to rent shoes there, and explore different trails. All absolutely beautiful!
Have tons of mountain fun!

Hi, Michael. What would you like to know about this attraction?
What's the snow like right now? Is there much powder left on the intermediate runs?

We ski 3X/week at Mt. Rose and were just there yesterday. There is still SO much snow to ski! It's warm and we are in SUMMER skiing. Things get sticky and slushy by 11am and that's tough to push around. This weekend will be novelty skiing--wax the skis, get the turns in early, and head for the bar! No-pants weekend so come dressed to impress!

Hi All,
Planned to ski Mt. Rosa during 24th Dec time frame.
Could any one of you let us know where could we find snow dresses in rental?
I will be coming from Reno to Mt Rosa. So if some one knows in Reno, that is also fine.
Scheels in Sparks (next-to and east of Reno) is probably your best bet for snow clothes and ski equipment. You can also rent your ski equipment directly at the Mt Rose ski lodge.
