I took the opportunity for an outing to Raptor Adventures while visiting friends in Reno. We started with a presentation by Kathleen Tigan that was under a nice shaded area with chairs and refreshments. Kathleen shared her wealth of knowledge on the raptors, the session was extremely engaging and informative. She was assisted by 3 raptors – a Hawk, a Falcon and an Owl. She explained the different traits, behaviors, hunting styles of these birds. She encouraged questions and made it very interactive. During the presentation there was opportunity to handle the birds. After learning about the birds we then went into the field to see a Harris Hawk in action. I actually experienced having the hawk fly from a perch and return to my glove which was awesome!

Highly recommend that anyone with an interest in nature makes the time to visit. FYI – recommend you wear closed shoes like sneakers for the short field walk.

I recently booked a session with Raptor Adventures, not knowing what to expect and it was awesome. It was like being out in the wild. The Falconer Kathleen Tigan was amazing with her presentation and knowledge of the Raptors. I was able to handle a giant Owl, a falcon, and a hawk, which was really cool. Then we went to the field where we got to see firsthand how the hawks hunt and actually got to hold them by sending the birds off and returning to our glove. It was quite the experience. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to have a good time and I recommend to bring the whole family.

You need to try this and bring the family! Kathleen (owner) was the best, and gears her presentation to the participants (as possible). I took my two skeptical teens along with me, and they came away amazed. My 14 year old son said, "This was the best ever!" and then immediately posted a photo of himself with Louise the owl. That says it all for me. Highly recommended and we will return next time we are in Reno, NV.

This rates as a top experience for my year. These birds are magnificent and Jim’s talk about raptors - spell binding. Learn fascinating facts about falcons, hawks, eagles and owls. Allow these birds of prey to perch on your hand protected by a falconer’s glove. Look into their remarkable eyes, see the feather patterns, examine talons and beaks “up close and personal.”

Thank you for the great review. I am blessed to be able to work with people like you and these wonderful birds. Looking forward to have you come back for a hawk walk, and get a chance to fly the birds !

We found ourselves in Reno for a softball tournament over the weekend. What to do? I found these reviews and decided to meet up with Jim for a tour. WOW. This made our weekend! My husband, myself and our 13 year old all did the Introductory to Falconry Tour with Jim, the owner. We've travelled a lot and always seek out the "un-touristy" things to do. This is one of the absolute highlights of all our adventures. Well worth the time. Well worth the money. We came away with an incredible appreciation for these amazing birds and a feeling of gratitude that Jim, an expert in his field, takes the time to educate the public through his experiences and stories. It's rare to find an expert with so much love for his craft and enthusiasm for sharing it.
Logistics: The location is about 30 minutes from Reno. We had an easy time travelling from the Courtyard Marriott downtown Reno. Freeway, paved roads and about 1 mile of well maintained gravel road at the end. It's a senic and peaceful drive. Get gas and do your shopping before you head out there - there's not a lot of commercial businesses. Allow 40 minutes for the drive to be safe. Suri took us straight there, no problems with google map. Arrive 15 minutes early, because likely Jim will already be there waiting. Allow 2 hours for the adventure - you won't want to miss Jim's stories! Allow another 45 minutes to 1 hour to visit the Animal Ark Sanctuary, located across the street (check opening hours beforehand). Entrance is free if you do a Rapture Adventure, but bring some cash for the donation box because once you read about the work they do to save animals, you won't mind donating! Your car will get dusty/dirty. Our small sedan did fine on the gravel road (late September, no snow). Bring a hat for the sun. Short sleeve shirts, shorts, tennis shoes work fine. Jim has water. Bring the nice camera! For this tour, you won't leave the sight of your car, so no need to pack a backpack. Bring the whole family. This tour would be good for kids and adults of all ages. It's safe and structured. Be willing to handle some raw meat to feed the birds. Hand washing station is available. This is one tour that is well worth the cost and will be a memory that will last!! Have fun!

This is an awesome hands on experience with some magnificent creatures. From the handling of the the owl, falcon and eagle to the hawk walk with Zuzu and Anabelle it was a great morning. The highlight for me was the chance to call Zuzu and have her land on my glove. Thank you Jim for a fabulous day. Your knowledge and passion for falconry is evident in this endeavor. I would say this is a once in a life time experience except we plan on going back! Do heed the other reviewers advice on long pants and good hiking boots as you hike through the dessert brush during the hawk walk.

My husband and I signed up for the Introduction to Falconry experience and although we thought it would be interesting, we didn't know how fun it would be! Jim is very knowledgable about birds of prey and does a great job conveying his knowledge to people who don't know a whole lot about birds or falconry. We got to hold the birds, send them into flight, and have them come back to us and land on our arms. It is definitely something we'd like to do again in the future and would recommend it to anyone!

I have always been fascinated with Birds of Prey, and marveled at these majestic creatures. My sister and I shared this Amazing experience. We were absorbed into another world, the ancient world of the falconer.Jim shared his vast knowledge of history and importance these beautiful birds, while these gentle birds kindly accepted us unconditionally and earned even more respect , awe, and love if that is possible. This is a must do bucket list experience for anyone who respects our planet and loves animals!

First of all the falconer, Jim, was AMAZING! My friend, her two young children, my niece, and I learned so much about falcons, hawks, and owls! Not only did we get to physically hold the beautiful birds, but we were given a great lesson on the birds' anatomy, habitat, and more!! I would DEFINITELY recommend this experience to ANYONE!! You will have a blast and get your money's worth!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

My daughter and 2 friends went to the raptor adventures not knowing what to expect. We are "city folks" from Indiana who were visiting Lake Tahoe on vacation. Jim and his birds are amazing. He was so informative and humorous in his presentation, we learned so much about falcons, hawks, and owls! Inter-reacting with these beautiful and powerful birds was fabulous! His birds have been in commercials and movie promos. His owl, Louise, and dog, Annie, have been seen on YouTube and TV as "Unusual Best Friends". We all had an experience of a life time we won't forget! Thanks, Jim!
