- Michele S8 contributionsLots of walking to reach Monorail stationsThe Monorail is a more economical way of getting around Vegas without having to use taxis. The Monorail is reliable, efficient, clean, and safe. The stations are all on the street behind the hotels. We found that there was a lot of walking through the hotels/casinos just to reach the stations and then another long walk back to the front of the hotel. We bought a 4-day pass but didn’t use it as much as we thought. It might be worth it just to buy tickets as you need them.Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten September 26, 2023
- Mon BOntario, Canada13 contributionsAwesome and AffordableThis was my first time taking the monorail in Vegas. I found that it was a really affordable way to be able to travel up-and-down the strip. The only downside was that it closed at 11:30 PM because of some maintenance that they had to do, so it made it a little harder to get home after some of the shows. I would still highly recommend it as affordable and flexible way to get around. I will definitely be taking it the next time that I come back to visit Las Vegas. Tip: Purchase the multi-day passes on the website to get a discount.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 12, 2023
- Billy fSpringfield, Missouri1 contributionLas Vegas MonorailThe Monorail is very convenient and overall a really nice transit system, I wish they would invest in it more like an airport extension and even just connecting it to the STRAT would be nice. It's not like people don't wanna use the system, my ride was packed. Alot better then the current plan Las Vegas wants, Tesla's underground that carry limited people.Visited May 2023Traveled with familyWritten November 1, 2023
- Shelley MOklahoma476 contributionsOkay for transport behind the resorts, but not for sightseeingThe monorail goes from the MGM (south end of Strip) to the Sahara (north end), with easy walking to the Stratosphere (not the best neighborhood though). But it goes behind all of the hotels on the Strip, which are pretty big, so by the time you walk from the monorail and walk back to the monorail, you might as well just walk to your destination if it’s only 2 or 3 resorts away. It’s perfectly safe and clean. No random people hanging out because you have to pay before you get to the platform. Do not ride if if you are wanting to see out, as it is covered in ads that you can look out of as if you are looking through a screen. It is not that cheap, but if you get digital tickets they are cheaper.Visited November 2023Traveled with familyWritten November 24, 2023
- susan2909Aberdeen, United Kingdom1,195 contributionsGreat view of sphere, difficult to find some stations....The service is quick and reliable. Carriages are clean & even during f1, not over crowded. The stations can be quite a walk so be prepared. For example, excalibur to mgm walk to station is 15 mins. Finding the station from hurrahs/the linq (outside, high roller attraction etc) is really difficult, no signs and you need to walk thru car parks etc. Could be better sign posted.Visited November 2023Traveled with friendsWritten December 4, 2023
- Christopher C9 contributionsMonorail is LifeI adore the Las Vegas Monorail it is so convenient for me as a resident on The Strip! I take the monorail for several occasions for work, shopping needs, and nightlife. It is two blocks walking distance and easy to access the Famous Las Vegas Strip, Las Vegas Convention Center, and sports venues on the South end of The Strip. It does not go downtown but you can connect to a free shuttle at The STRAT. It beats buying rideshares and taxis to every destination.Visited December 2023Traveled soloWritten December 16, 2023
- BobOxenburghAlamo, California332 contributionsUS transportation infrastructure already a museum pieceWe thought we should check it out. All the stations need much better signage. Boingo has no direction sign from the sidewalk. Go into toward the Convention Center before trying the corner of Paradise. It's almost an historic ride. Only 20 years old and I think the Chinese metros in a dozen different cities would laugh their heads off. Anyway we had an interesting experience! And it was clean.Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten January 31, 2024
- Dale S3 contributionsMonorail is the best way to travel the Las Vegas StripFast, easy and an enjoyable ride up and down the strip. Taking the monorail save us countless steps and brought us to all the venues we wanted to visit. We purchased the four day pass which was complete adequate for our visit to Las Vegas. I would highly recommend the monorail for anyone who is staying on the strip.Visited February 2024Traveled with familyWritten February 16, 2024
- Larry LCalgary, Canada47 contributionsGood alternative to The Deuce and taxisGood alternative to The Deuce bus that runs along the Strip, Ideal if your hotel is close to the monorail (Sahara, Westgate etc). Cheaper to buy online tickets than paper tickets at the station. However, signage is poor (probably because it offers a good alternative to taxis so there's pressure from the taxi companies not to promote monorail). I would suggest that you ride the monorail FROM your hotel to your destination so that when you want to return to your hotel, you know exactly how to get to the station for your return ride.Visited March 2024Traveled with familyWritten April 1, 2024
- Sabrina P9 contributionsFast and convenient way to travel the stripThe monorail is a convenient way to get around the strip without having to walk/drive. There are seven stops, bookended by the MGM and the Sahara. If you are getting off at the MGM and trying to get to the strip, follow the signs for ‘New York New York’. It isn’t well marked how to get out to the strip from the monorail drop off point but if you follow the signs to NYNY you can get there in 10-15 mins (depending on how fast you walk). The inside of the monorail is a bit dated - but it serves its purpose.Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 20, 2024

Around 5/6pm on Sept 4th, 2023 A homeless man jumped from behind the machines and scared us as we were looking at how to redeem how 3 day passes for the first time. The security guard went to him to tell him to go away. So we redeemed our tickets and went down to wait for the train.
The guy then came down to the waiting area and started trying to tell us about how we had demons and kept raising his voice at us. We tried to disengage/de-escalate and when the train arrived we went in the wagon but he followed us. We got out and headed to another door to not be stuck with an aggressive man with no escape but he followed us into the next wagon (all the while muttering stuff) and that's when we exited as the door closed and lost him.
We went back to the security to kinda tell him "hey that guy was able to pass you/he's on the train and what the f?" and the guard basically said there was nothing he could do or could've done about it once he was on the other side of the turnstiles.
We bought our 3 day passes with the expectation that the monorail would be a safe way to travel the strip, but clearly security does nothing to enforce this so we turned around and went back to our hotel to call a Uber. We never again went into the monorail for safety concern and recommend to everyone to avoid taking it.

We did not rent a car this time because of the high price during thanksgiving weekend. Luckily, we stayed in westgate casino resort and there's a monorail stop right in front of the main entrance. The monorail is really convenient if you happen to go to the places right next to the stops. Like us, westgate to MGM for show, venetian for dinner, some places might need a little more walk and navigation out of the building complex where the station is. But then you save on time finding parking spots and walking back and forth from parking might end up the same. Price wise is ok if you purchase passes and make it very simple to use.

We were excited to discover a monorail station at the MGM and purchased two day tickets for $23/person. Unfortunately, it was a bust for us.
Most of the time we end up walking more just getting to and from the monorail station than we would have simply walking to the next stop.
Finding and getting to the monorail stations is not easy: there is barely any signage and you spend alot of time wandering around the casino to get to the outside station platform, which requires multiple stairs/escalator/elevator up and then multiple stairs/escalator/elevator back down.
We finally ditched the monorail and grabbed a taxi.
In contrast, there are 3 short distance trams, operated by the hotels, that are free, well run, and have easier to find & better placed stations.

It’s now so poorly maintained, the trains leak when it rains and the air con is so poor when it’s hot.
The walk to most of the stations is right at the back of the casinos ,then escalators that are switched off.
It’s very expensive for what it is and the trails don’t come every 9 mins as it announces on the pre record tannoy.
The seats on the trains are dirty and hard ,the foam is long gone.
Avoid and don’t use your myVEGAS points to buy tickets as your half off the 2nd ticket isn’t half price because they use the full amount $15 for a day pass when they are on offer at $13.45.
Use the DUECE bus but that’s not great at the moment either and will get worse while the build up to the Formula 1 will hot up soon for the race on the November 18th weekend.

We bought Monorail passes for our 5 day stay and enjoyed the freedom that gave us. The strip is long. I agree with other posters that it is still a long slog through some of the hotels to get from Las Vegas Blvd to the train station, but if you are traveling more than 1 station away it usually saves steps!

Convenient, reliable, and "cheap". The holly trinity when speaking about "public" transport. Honestly Uber is way too expensive in Vegas (at least the time we were there) and the Monorail will take you everywhere you need it in the strip. The downside is that it runs through the back so you don't get many views and you do have to walk a bit within the resorts to find it. We stayed at Paris Hotel and the signaling was very good but we had to walk a bit to the back and because most terminals are shared ours was actually in Balleys hotel. Other than that it was very good.

The length of the Las Vegas strip is a little over 4 miles, so it makes sense to have some sort of public transportation to avoid traffic in this high tourist populated area. However, the rail stations are behind the casinos, making them very difficult to get to, and defeating the purpose ( reducing walking time ) of catching the rail in the first place. I’d only recommend the Las Vegas monorail if you happen to stay in one of the casinos, where there is a monorail Station.

We want to love the monorail. It SEEMS convenient. It seems like the best way to travel the strip. But I promise your two feet are a better option than spending your money on this. We had went from our center strip hotel to Mandalay Bay and decided on the way back to take the monorail from MGM back to the Ballys Paris station. It cost us $20 for the day pass (we had a myVEGAS reward) but it was such a waste of money. We waited a solid 10 minutes for our train on top of the massive walk to the back of MGM. We could’ve easily walked back to our hotel in the time we walked to the back of MGM and waited for our monorail. Also, didn’t make you feel very good when you saw people sneaking through and no one was around to catch them. Unless you’re staying in the property with the monorail and only care about going to the casino the monorail stops at, don’t purchase this. There are buses and free trams between many properties you can use instead.

The monorail was clean and had a short arrival wait. However, there were long distances in between stops, more stations are needed in between, and need sanitization stations. The walk from the monorail to attractions was a bit of a distance, nevertheless, it helped with getting where you wanted.

When is the monorail expected to open again? By October?
Written September 11, 2020
Hi, can you buy tickets now for a trip in October also if we are going for 9 days and got a 5 day pass do they have to be used from the start date or are they open ?
Written July 16, 2019
You can buy online and yes, it starts the day you purchase. There are several options on length of pass you can purchase. It is well worth the price when you consider how much time you can save from walking, traveling the strip and Uber costs.

Which hotel has the least amount of walking to get to their entrance to the monorail?
Written February 27, 2019
Hello,
The Westgate Hotel has the least amount of walking distance. The Las Vegas Monorail entrance is right outside of the hotel's front entrance. Also, SLS is another option with little walking distance.
Please feel free to contact us with any other questions. You may call (702) 699-8200.

My concern is walking to the monorail. Which hotel needs the least amount of walking to get on the monorail. I remember the Harrah's monorail stop was fairly close to the Hotel.
Written February 27, 2019
The monorail has stops at MGM Grand, Bally's/Paris, Flamingo (easy access), Harrah's/Linq, Westgate (very easy access!) & SLS Las Vegas.
We stayed at the Westgate & access is right outside the main entrance to the hotel.
Hope this helps.

If you buy a 4 day ticket do you have to use on consecutive days
Written January 24, 2018
Hello Elizcross,
If you do purchase a 4-day pass, you do have to use the ticket consecutively. Once you first put the ticket through the fare gate system, you have 96 hours until that ticket expires.

Does the monorail take you to the convention center?
Written August 29, 2017
Hi:
I wonder if someone can tell me what the two end spots are for the Monorail. I understand one end is the back side of the MGM Grand, what is the other end of the route? How far behind the MGM do you have to walk to get to the Monorail? And how many stops are there along the way to get on and off? Just wondering if the monorail is a good option or the bus system up the strip is better. thanks

SLS station which is near the stratosphere on the north end. You're correct, the south end is at MGM.
