About
Now YOU can settle the dispute over which of these icons (Dodge Challenger SRT8 392, Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, Chevrolet Camaro ZL1) is the King of American Muscle. Get behind the wheel of the fastest edition of all three cars at our Las Vegas Motor Speedway test track, where our data acquisition systems will measure acceleration, braking efficiency, cornering capability and top speed.THE CHALLENGE modules:- 1st - ACCELERATION: We’ll capture exactly how quickly you can get each car from a standing start to 60mph.- 2nd - BRAKING EFFICIENCY: You will be measured on the exact distance it takes to go from 60mph to a complete stop.- 3rd - CORNERING CAPABILITY: We’ll use digital data collection to determine the lateral G force generated in a closed section.- 4th - TOP SPEED: HOW FAST CAN YOU GO over a set distance? The segments have props designed to measure performance and enhance the experience. These will include an F1-style starting line…radar displays showing your speed in mph…digital time displays to show elapsed time…a braking module light trigger…braking distance markers…and course module identifiers. You’ll get a “practice run” on the test track in each car, so you can get familiar with the layout and individual cars. The next three runs – one in each car – are the ones that count.Driving Experiences require reservations. Rides in the iconic muscle cars are also available at the track on days and times the AMCC is operating and do not require reservations.

If you want to get behind the wheel of a Chevy Camero ZL1, Ford Mustang and Dodge Charger and flog them around the Las Vegas Speedway... Then this is absolutely hands down the experience to do!

My partner and I did this experience and will never forget it.

To be in control of some powerful cars is absolutely crazy!

The challenge is 4 steps. You have an instructor with you in the car who will tell you what to do at each step so no need to worry if you forget what to do in the classroom before hand.

As Aussies, we drive on the other side of the road, so we were a little hesitant to get into a manual car with the gear shift on the right. However, only the Mustang was the manual. The Camero and Dodge were Automatics which made a hell of a difference, but didn't stop us from getting behind the wheel of the manual Mustang.

The track challenge is designed to show you how each car drives, the speed and handling of it.

Step 1 - Acceleration - FLOOR IT ON THE GREEN LIGHT .... You get to punch the accelerator as hard as you can to see what speed you can do from 0-60miles/hr... I did the Camero in 4.6 seconds... it was like a rocket... ARRR loved it!!

Step 2 - Braking.... Brake as hard as you can and pull up to a complete stop. Shows your abilty to stop at a high speed as quick as you can.

Step 3 - Cornering - Where you start to punch the accelerator around the corner part of the speedway to show the handling of it...

Step 4 - My favourite - GUN THE CAR!!! Foot to the floor as fast as you can possibly go while staying in control of the vehicle at the top side of the track. My fastest was 120 miles/hr in the Mustang... Felt like you were in a rocket.

You get a test run in each car, where the drivers will tell you what to do. Then the second lap is where you get timed and speeds recorded. These are then printed up to see how you go against your family, friends or partners who are there with you.

Seriously... these cars are something special to look at, but also drive like beauties!

Ladies... don't be scared... These are powerful cars but even if you just want to go behind the wheel to test them around the speedway... you go as fast or slow as you want.

This experience was absolutely exhileratiing and the people running the show are very nice and will answer any questions you have.

Don't be shy... !!!

I booked the muscle car challenge for my boyfriend as a birthday present during our holiday.
We were picked up from outside the Paris Hotel by Ron who was very friendly and full of information (but needs to speak up a little over the AC in the minivan!)
Short drive out to the Las Vegas speedway, easy book in with a little paperwork before a safety briefing and DVD about the challenge and the cars.
I didn't actually take part but was allowed to watch everything with the drivers.
We were then shuttled across to the track area for the challenge to begin!
All the drivers take turns in driving the three cars, once with an instructor and then the rest are alone but with direct links to the staff via the helmets. It definitely looked like a lot of fun!
The speedway is by an air base so we were also treated to jets flying overhead in formation and landing.
Once each person had completed all their laps, there is opportunity to buy videos of your drive and they provide you with a certificate and printout of your times and speeds for the challenges.

I booked the muscle car challenge for my husband and it turned out to be the highlight of our trip. Not only did he get to drive 3 amazing cars but the scenery was beautiful and the staff was fantastic to work with! I rode along with my husband and I had just as much fun as him I think. If you are tired of gambling and want to do something different I would highly recommend this adventure to you. The only downfall is when you get stuck behind a regular car and are doing 45 mph in a Shelby Mustang, it's a shame at that point.

I wish I could say it was fun but I'll never know. I booked the American Muscle Car Challenge three months in advance, they took my money, confirmed my reservation and then cancelled two weeks before my event without any explanation.

I've been a satisfied customer of the Richard Petty Driving Experience for almost a decade. Started with a ride-along, driven the Rookie Experience three times and twice with the exotics. I've introduced several members of my family and friends to their programs and all told brought close to ten thousand dollars worth of business to the Richard Petty Driving Experience.

Perhaps they over-booked and somebody had to get screwed? I'll never know as the Richard Petty Driving Experience won't give me a straight answer. If you choose to proceed be fore-warned you'll be expected to sign several pages of waivers releasing the Richard Petty Driving Experience from every liability imaginable. But when it comes to honoring a paid contract they can cancel on you at any time and without reason. If they'll do this to a loyal and long-time customer like myself don't be surprised if they do this to you too. Buyer beware!

I booked this trip months in advance. We planned to take my son to Nevada for his high school graduation. The highlight of the trip was to attend the Monster Energy Supercross and for him and my husband to do the American Muscle Car Challenge. Unfortunately it didn't work out that way because the day before the scheduled car challenge I was called on my cell phone and told it was cancelled and that they were very sorry but that event won't be offered until June! This was May 2nd! As you can imagine I was not happy considering I booked so far in advance and you would think the organization would have had a little courtesy and called to cancel in advance considering they knew the event would not be offered. Definitely would not recommend this considering the disappointment they caused.

My dad and I booked ourselves in for the Richard Petty Muscle Car Challenge and choose to drive the Dodge Challenger Hellcat SRT. The only good thing about his experience was that it was a fantastic car to drive. To start, the pick-up and drop-off was only from a couple of different locations and we were told that this was apparently due to a lot traffic in Vegas. They do not pick up from the Bellagio!!!!! The pick up instructions were unclear and when we tried to contact the office our call was diverted to a callcenter, who eventually helped us track down our shuttle buss driver. I've done several driving experiences all over the world and the instructor always sits in the passenger seat of the car you are driving to assist. In this activity however, you are made to FOLLOW the instructor who limits your speed and thrill! This does not let you push your own personal limits and for the most part, was really disappointing and frustrating. You are only allowed to do 5 laps, out of which the first lap is a warm-up and the last is a cool-off. The overall drive time is no more than 3-4 minutes from start to finish!!!! We also purchased a video of the drive for $59 which is a poor print and only shows your face. I would never recommend this experience as it is just not worth it.

Having done the Richard Petty Experience on three previous occasions, our expectations were fairly high for this. The in-class instructor pumped us up and we thought this was going to be great. Not so much. We chose to drive cars with manual transmission, and much to our disappointment we learned (in the 0-60 segment) that they had an RPM limiter in them, so just at about 3500 rpm (45mph), you suddenly feel a big "clunk" and you are forced to change to second gear, resulting in a less than stellar 0-60 time (Mustang is the only one that you can make it to 60 in first gear). Ah well. Into the cornering segment, where you should get to feel how well these cars can stick to the track on the banking - right? Again - no. The instructor (babysitter) seated in the passenger seat got pretty testy when I cranked it up to around 60 mph - they wanted me to keep it at 40, and very low on the track, not allowed on the banking - good god I drive faster than that on the entry ramp to the freeway! Finally on the backstretch, they let you stomp on the gas - for about 5 seconds at top speed (mine was 128 in the Mustang). Then they make you put the car in neutral (yes really) and essentially coast thru the final turn onto pit road. And.... That's it. Repeat in three different cars, and you're done. So. If you've never driven a performance car, and you don't mind being treated like an idiot who can't drive, you will probably enjoy this. If you are a "driver" (you know who you are), don't waste your money. Rent a 'vette on the Strip - it'll be way more fun.

Don't be misled. While the description of this driving experience does not say that you will be driving on the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, it does imply that. We looked at the video for this event on YouTube that is posted by the Richard Petty Driving Experience and it does show guest driving on the speedway at speed in excess of 120 mph.

YOU WILL NOT BE DRIVING ON THE SPEEDWAY. You will be driving on a course set up in a perfectly flat parking lot of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. As for going fast, the most you can hope to achieve is about 70 mph, Whatever you can achieve in the 0 to 60 quarter mile is as fasts as you can go. The timing lights for you to start your quarter mile 0 to 60 challenge were not working so there was no way to really judge which car did the 0 to 60 the fastest.

I bought this for my son's 21st birthday, and while he did enjoy it, we were both disappointed that it was not what it was advertised to be.

First experience using Petty, but done plenty of other racing experiences around the world. First the good new, transfer picked us up on time and arrived around 30 mins before 9am start time. Now the bad news, there was an abandoned truck on the inside of the track which meant we did not start until gone 10am facilities are limited to say the least. Vegas track being only 1.5 miles seems too short to get up to speed and by the time you do because follow lead car they encourage breaking way too early so couldn't push to my own personal limits which was a shame. Most disappointing of all having had my photos taken with the cars they could not print them. Then when time to go we had to make a fuss as driver wanted to wait for group which followed our group to finish but too hot to stay in the open for too long. I am sure if you are at a bigger track it would be better but all in all this was not the best Driving Experience I have had and not really sure who was in charge with all the staff around.

Good fun but sadly disappointed, After being told to drive as fast as we could and that they would accommodate them selfs to our speed I was annoyed that when I drove the Hellcat first (which had some awesome power) I could hardly use it to it's full potential due to my "babysitter" Joe constantly telling me to slow down while sitting in front of me (blocking) in the NASCAR. I then drove the GT350 mustang following Mike (who was far better than Joe), it was an awesome car apart from not being told about it being "rev limited" and only being able to reach a max speed of 133mph, not too fast for a car enthusiast. It put a dampener on the experience.

Thank you for the review Jaxon W, We are happy to hear you made time to experience the American Muscle Car Challenge while visiting Las Vegas. We will pass your review on to the operations team as we are always looking to improve in our guests eyes. Also we apologize for any misunderstandings in the GT350. We are always focused first on our guests safety, and second on the experience. The majority of our driving experiences for guests driving top out around 140-145MPH depending on skill set. With Safety in mind the GT350 is limited to 133MPH to ensure a safe drive on the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. We hope to host you again in the future, and please mention this review to our crew chief when visiting. Perhaps they will be able to give you so tips in achieving the overall top speed in each car. Thank you again, RPDE/AMCC Marketing team
