Very cool history and world landmark with so many lingering benefits for the Western USA still to this day. Very educational, beautiful "great gatsby" style 1930s architecture & decor. I recommend stopping in Boulder City on your way, and view the free museum inside the main hotel to get the history before going to view the actual dam and bridge. Also, wear walking shoes!!

Short drive from Las Vegas, highly recommend this drive. The dam and the highway connecting Nevada & Arizona are spectacular. The tour is well worth the money. Recommend driving just past the paid parking for free parking

I spent my teen years in Las Vegas Nevada and made many trips across NV-AZ border via Hoover Dam to visit family in AZ. From LV to Hoover used to time consuming: 4 lane road thru Henderson, up hills past Railroad Pass, turning into Boulder City for left turn down a hill to sprawling Lake Mead, then tortuous 2-lane winding road down to Hoover Dam, across the dam and a couple of switchbacks up to the plateau. God forbid you followed a big truck or car pulling a trailer. Sometimes we would park and walk the walkway along "Boulder Dam" built in 1936 for a scary view down the steep concrete sides. In 2010 a $240 million project was completed that bypassed Boulder City, replacing the winding descent with a big bridge across the Colorado River above Hoover Dam. Since we had lived in the East from 1998-2015, my first trip across the Bypass about 2016 was a surprise. Subsequent visits, including this recent trip from Idaho to Phoenix via Nevada, still always surprise me. Here we were, winding our way thru Vegas on the 515 belt route, whipping along Henderson seeing nothing but new houses, noting the Boulder City turn off and pretty houses on a distant hill, and then somehow magically we were in Arizona! I love it for quick travel but I do miss the windy road and the scary dam views.

Hoover Damn is amazing and wonderful. The structure is breath taking and it’s massiveness is hard to overate. Parking is $10 and can accommodate larger vehicles easily. Although we did not do any tours, there was a plethora of options available to fit every need and budget.
On the third story of the parking garage there are some great photo opportunities! Make sure you hit em before you go to the damn itself!
Make sure that you go with full tummy’s! The cafe there is a joke. The prices are super high and the food quality is like high school cafeteria food, no offense high schools of America! Be smart and get a quality meal anywhere else.

thought it was not worth the $10 admission no tours so just walk around would take a pass next time and just walk around myself .
He also asked if we were over 61 but then charged us the full fare I asked him so no discount for over 61 and he said no only on the tours and they are not operating at the moment.
So why ask I asked him he said just habit...

This is the vehicular bridge spanning the dam, now Interstate 11. Has an exit for the dam proper, where your vehicle will have to pass a security check. There will be a couple of parking areas before getting to the towered parking adjoining the dam site. The second parking area offers a short uphill walkway where you can walk across the I-11 bridge. From here you get really great views of the dam structure, geology, and the lake. I would opt for this if you have the energy. Once you drive down to the dam and park (there is a fee) you can walk around and explore the exterior surroundings as well as enter the facility and take a guided tour. However, I must caution old timers that you can no longer exit the dam by vehicle into Arizona via the access road. You must use I-11 now.

We were staying in Las Vegas and had a rental car. We drove to the Hoover Dam about 45 minutes away. Easy parking. I did look on their website before going and it said due to Covid that they weren't selling any tour tickets. We got there and they were. We asked about tours and the guy said the website hasn't been updated in over a year. We wanted to do the powerplant tour but the next available time was 3 hours later! We opted for the visitor center self guided tour for $10 per person. That contained a lot of info and was great. if you read every sign, you could be in there for awhile. It was a super hot day so it was nice to be inside the air for a little bit. We walked across the dam and took pictures. When leaving we drove to the Memorial bridge parking and walked halfway across it to get a straight on view and pictures of the dam. Th bridge can seem scary for those who are afraid of heights. The railing is high and there is a huge concrete barrier between you and the traffic whizzing by but it can still seem scary. We wore sunscreen, had hats on and carried water with us. It was very needed! We went July 5th and it was over a 100 degrees.

We drove over to the Dam from Vegas and found it well worth the time and effort. You should plan to wear comfortable shoes and clothes if you want to the the walking tour. We paid extra for the "Hard Hat" tour and it was well worth the small extra charge. This structure was built in the first half of the 20th Century and still rivals anything we can build with today's CAD Engineering Systems. Plan for a full day if you make the drive over from Vegas.

Well worth the short drive from the Las Vegas strip. Until you see it in person you can not appreciate the size and engineering of this structure. It is truly breathtaking. Make it a nice day trip and stop for breakfast, explore the dam, and then continue on into the Lake Meade National Parks.

We drove from Vegas just to see the Hoover Dam Bypass and it was worth it, but we did see other things along the way and that made the day even better. We stopped at the part to see the goats, then went on to Lake Mead, then on to the Hoover Dam Bypass. We walked out on the bridge about half way and took photos but be warned it was VERY windy and we saw that many people had lost expensive hats. We passed a lot of people walking the other way and so if you think you will "have it to yourself" you are mistaken. We wanted a good picture of the supports so we also parked down at the visitor center for a photo op. It was very hot that day and to be honest it was too much for me and I had to back to Vegas. Be more prepared than I was. Tank top, extra water, sunscreen, etc. Parking costs $10 and you have to pay to go into the Visitor Center.
