I enjoyed my visit to the Hoover Dam so much. I learned about its building period, the history of the dam and its inner workings. I was a little surprised at how tiny the plaque for the Native American contribution was considering the message, which...More
We were on our way back from driving to the West Rim Grand Canyon and decided to stop to see the Hoover Dam. It's pretty cool! I am glad I didn't pay for a tour, as I could see it all from the various free...More
You can get a good view of the dam from the bypass -- and a little bit of Lake Mead -- but for the full experience, take the time to do one of the tours or at least park down by the dam and walk...More
Excellent addition to engineering ingenuity for a view of the Hoover Dam. Easy access from the parking lot and the climb up the bridge isn't strenuous at all despite the height of the bridge. What a way to marvel at the dam!

re hover dam... first time out there? it was mine and let me tell ya, there really is not many choices on roads or scenery, lol. once you leave vegas heading toward Hoover Dam, not much except Boulder, which would have places to eat. We didn't stop but the little town did leave an impression as "quaint", think we passed a "train ride" passing thru and 1 grocery store. the scenery is everywhere, the expanse with nothing, the mountain tops looming near and far.... then suddenly you spot a lake (or is that a mirage?) and there it is.... Grand, man made and inspiring, the dam and the surrounding infrastructure show what extreme measures it took to harness nature, for better or worse as you will see by the visual water lines, +100's of feet above the current water level which our driver states is as much or perhaps even more a result of poor water management as any natural event. Be that as it may, seeing that line does give a dramatic perspective, especially in photos.

The parking area is on the road down to the dam from the Freeway US-93/I-11). About 1 mile from the dam, on the right. It is well marked, and you can't miss it - parking lot, stairs/ramp up to the O'Callaghan/Tillman bridge crossing. You can walk all the way across the bridge - 1 mile downstream and 1000 feet above the river - spectacular.
