A simple idea, glorious in it's final form
Having looked at things to visit on our road trip, this popped up on the outskirts of Las Vegas and after reading multiple reviews, I thought, why not have a look! First off, if you approach from the south, you come off at Jean and you run parallel to the 15 for 5 miles to the location. It's free parking and free entry, where there are two information boards all about the art installation. There were people coming and going all the time we were there but I did manage to get the fabled photo with no-one in shot! To me it's a simple idea that looks brilliant in the flesh but of course, someone has to come up with the simple idea first. We wandered around the site, enjoying the bright colours, which changed as the sun hid behind clouds. The shadows cast were interesting and I can only imagine what they looked like at different times of the day. We were there for about half an hour enjoying the look and feel of the rocks before we left. The only tiny downside was the dog excrement left behind by some peoples pets but that was a minor gripe for an adult. Toddlers beware though! Would I go again, if I was traveling to Vegas again? I would definitely stop off again, to see how it looks at a different time of day!

An interesting place near Las Vegas
Very close to Las Vegas this is a nice place to visit and take family photos. It is on the way to other places you can visit near the city so it doesn't take long to make a stop here, admission is free and so is parking. The contrast of the colored stones with the desert background makes this an interesting place

Plus Size Friendly - if you take Uber, ask your driver to wait for you if possible
As a fat traveler, and one without a car while in town, I was anxious about a few things for this attraction - how hard and long was the walk from the parking lot to the stones and if I got an Uber there, could I get one back since it’s in the middle of the dessert. The walk is so so easy, gravel path, probably less than 500 feet from the parking lot. And with the Uber, we ended up asking our driver to stay for thirty minutes and we gave him extra extra tip for this because we weren’t sure how easy it would be to get an Uber back since these stones seem to be in the middle of nowhere. Our driver didn’t speak English but we just used Google translate and he was wonderful and waited. If you are looking for Instagram spots, this is one that I think is worth it to get there but the Uber was not cheap - about 35-45 each way without tips so if you think ahead it may be better to get a rental car.

Worth a stop when Leaving Las Vegas
Was nice to not be on Interstate 15 to LA for a bit after getting out of Sin City. Also a chance to see something a little different. it is not spirtual or anyting WOW just quirky and worth a stop. Once done you are then not far to Terribles Road House in Jean. Huge services with a White Castle and any other supplies you need before heading west. Also there is a fake Welcome to Las Vegas sign that has no queue so a good spot for a snap if you missed the real one.

    A pop of color!
I came across these while I was planning our road trip through Utah and Arizona and we were flying in and out of Vegas. You feel like it takes forever to get there, but these are just so cool up close! They are massive! So colorful! There will be SO MANY PEOPLE!!! But, the good news it, you can use the rocks to your advantage and we had no problem getting photos with no one else in them! If you have time, stop out and see them, you'll most likely never see anything like this!

    Seven Magic Mountains Adventure
I went to the Seven Magic Mountains, this was one of our stops on the way to Las Vegas, after around 3 hours of me riding in the car and my mom and dad taking turns driving. I thought this was interesting, rocks stacked up and painted in colors. It is is a nice place to take a picture and explore, a lot of people go there, even some people try to make their own rocks, its a nice place to explore. There isn't really any bad sides of the Seven Magic Mountains. It is really nice.

If you are into social media and cool pics, Seven Magic Mountains is definitely a nice photo opportunity, if you have neither of these interests in mind, then you better skip the visit. All in all, the place is just what you see in the countless pictures posted on social media, no more and no less than a bunch of colorful, stacked rocks. Whether this is art or not, is up to each visitor; with not the slightest takeaway, for me was not.

Key points to consider is you plan on visiting:

Parking is free and about 1,000ft/300m from the installation, with gravel from beginning to end; wear comfortable shoes, and if you’re on a wheelchair bear in mind the effort to reach the rocks will be great, probably better attend accompanied by someone abled to assist.

There’s no doubt the best time for visiting is right at dawn: most likely you’ll have the place for yourself; the light is perfect for pictures; weather will be fresher (maybe even cold, so bring a light jacket); and when put together, the desert, the installation, and the sunrise, add for a magnificent view.

Though only about 30 minutes from the strip, be sure to make travel arrangements beforehand, do not count on hailing a cab or calling an Uber at the spot because that just won’t do. BYO car, attend with a tour, or arrange for the Uber/taxi to wait.

Overall, the visit should not take longer than 30 minutes. As stated before, there’s nothing else but the rocks. No plaque to read, no visitor center, no info of any kind, and no place for buying coffee, water, or food in miles around –so better bring whatever provisions you might need. No toilet also!!!

This has become a place to visit…not much there so I really wouldn’t go out of my way to visit. However, it’s not a waste of time…you’ll spend about 20 minutes there and we were able to take shots without people in the shots just by moving around and looking for a good angle.

It’s very nice and artistic…good thing is that it’s only about 25 minutes south of Vegas.

Free parking and no cost to access.

Very popular was surprised at the nonstop stream of people coming here to take posed pictures with these piles of painted rocks. No point to it really other than they look kinda cool and that is the point. Recommend cuz it's worth it and free.

Ugo Rondinone has made a bold statement with his Seven Magic Mountains. I wish I had seen them immediately after their completion. BriE1976 is correct, the tourists have ravaged this work. There is a low wall around the statues, but people just climb over it to show their ignorance and lack of respect.

I have heard that a renovation will take place. I hope more is done to protect them.

Favorite picture spot right outside Las Vegas! Great signage as soon as you get off the main road to make it easy to find. Parking is convenient. We came in the morning and there weren't a lot of people. Don't come expecting a history lesson or anything else other than literally painted rocks stacked up, but I would still recommend a <30 minute visit!

Ever since I first saw a photo of the Seven Magic Mts I’ve wanted to see them. We never have a rental car in Vegas but since we rented one to get out of town for the weekend this year I wanted this to happen! The display is sponsored now by the LV Museum of Art and it has an extension thru 2021….yay! Sunday morning we headed out of town - once again it would be nice to be there for the sunrise but I was not pushing my driver. 🙂. Thankfully we are both early risers. I got so excited seeing the 7 tiny statues pop into sight from a distance at 6:37am — we arrived in plenty of time to see the sun first peeping up over the ridge and shine of the HUGE 7 statues. The bright neon colors just popped in the sunrise — I got some beautiful photos and the good thing about being there early is we were just the 2nd vehicle there. A family was having their photos taken so I did not get in their way but they finished soon after we walked up. It was so fun to see these huge boulders. I had watched videos and read about the work before we went so I understood the magnitude of having them stacked by cranes and the effort it took the artist, Ugo Rondinone, to obtain permission to set these up in the desert. It is just such a stark difference between the modern neon boulders and the desert surroundings. My husband was not impressed and did not like to see nature messed with. So — different strokes for different folks. He humored me in making this happen and I am so appreciative! Look them up online - it’s so cool. 🙂

My teen granddaughter was determined to see 7 Magic Mountains, probably because a friend had been there and told her about it. Personally, I consider this stop in the middle of nowhere to be an art project gone awry. The grandkids enjoyed running around the rock pillars and taking crazy pics so I guess the stop was worth it. However, I can hardly recommend it unless you have nothing else to do or have a child/grandchild who REALLY wants to see it.

I am not sure what the hype is all about. They are bright colorful stacked rocks.

It is something worth stopping for if you are on your way to Vegas, but not as cool as Hoover Dam or some of the other attractions along the way.

Its trendy and therefore popular, however what you hear about is not what you get. Its overly hyped up and sadly this hype leaves you disappointed and wanting more.

One thing to note is the unpaved parking lot entry, when entering veer to the left, there is a substantial dip which will tear up your vehicle if its anything less than an SUV.

Whether the city or state should do something about this as I am sure I am not the only one who's vehicle has been damaged.

Its a short walk from parking to the display but pavement is uneven so take appropriate footwear and sunscreen. The rocks themselves provide little shade and everyone is scrambling to get out of the heat to take photos so unless you're there super early trying to get a solo shot without someone else in it is a bit difficult.

It is nice that this is a free public art piece, sadly Trip Advisor does not offer less than an hour for recommended length of visit, you can truly do this in less time it will take you to walk from your car in the parking area car and back, that is unless you absolutely LOVE rocks.

Definitely worth the short drive from Vegas- especially if you have a rental car! These stones were impressive and there was plenty of parking. This is a free outdoor art exhibition so as long as you have reasonable expectations, you should not be disappointed. There were plenty of people taking selfies and it is a fun photo stop!

Located in the desert off Interstate 15 about 10 miles south of Las Vegas near the community of Jean, Seven Magic Mountains is an eye-catching art installation featuring 7 painted boulder totems up to 35 ft./10.6 m. high by Ugo Rondinone. If you’re approaching from the south (i.e., California), take exit 12 for NV-161 toward Jean/Goodsprings and then follow Las Vegas Boulevard for a few miles (there will be signs directing you toward the installation); you’ll see the exhibit rising in the distance from a mile away. There is a large, free parking area right off the street (NOTE that there are no restrooms or any other services available here).

Meant to be “a creative expression of human presence in the desert,” this exhibition opened in 2016 and is currently scheduled to run through 2021. It is a short walk from the parking lot to the installation, which is indeed impressive in its size, scope and use of color. Needless to say, you will find many photo opportunities as you walk through the exhibit. Visitors to Las Vegas are always looking for budget-friendly things to do, and this is certainly a worthwhile option.
