About
This 18-hole, Par 72 golf course was designed by Rees Jones in 1997, and is celebrated as one of the finest designs in Las Vegas. With views of the famed Las Vegas Strip throughout the round, Rio Secco is known for excellent customer service and top course conditions. Rio Secco winds through the Black Mountains in the Seven Hills community, six holes deep in the canyons, six atop a plateau, and six others sit atop a broad wash. Rio Secco completed a $2M restoration in October 2017, including new putting surfaces on all putting greens, new greenside bunkers, new and expanded practice facilities, and new forward tee boxes on five holes. Janelas Restaurant & Bar is a comfortable 19th hole room for post rounds beverages, or a delicious bite off the American style menu. Rio Secco is one of two golf properties in Las Vegas (Cascata) that is owned and operated by VICI Properties, Inc. (formerly Caesars Entertainment properties), and is home to the Butch Harmon and his renowned golf academy.

Beautiful golf course and home of Butch Harmon Golf School (Tiger Woods former golf coach). As a golfer and a local of Las Vegas, I would definitely recommend this course as a must play. You get beautiful views of the Las Vegas strip. A desert course located in a valley with some multi million dollar homes surrounding both sides of the fairway. The course is a long course. Some holes were difficult with desert hazards. The only thing that disappointed me was the snack bar after hole #9. We ordered fries from the golf cart at hole #7. When we arrived at the snack bar the server did received the order so it was not even ready. Then when we went to pay for some snacks, the employee said her card machine has not been working. It was 11 am. To me if my card machine was not working in the morning you should you try to have someone fix it. People come and pay for the experience so everything needs to be working. If it wasn't for this hiccup I would have rated my experience as a 5 star. The course did meet up to the hype.

I just was lucky enough to play eight golf courses in Las Vegas. Here’s how they stacked up:

#3 (for me) Rio Secco
PRO
- I am sure it’s busy sometimes, but the Wednesday morning I played I had the course to myself. On and off in 3 hours.
- Well maintained
- Some really fun, challenging holes that really push you to “go for it”

CON
- None. I really liked the course. I just like TPC and Wolf a little better.

NET
- I’d love to come back here again.
- Probably a little closer to the Strip than a lot of places I played.

Please hit “helpful” if appropriate.

#1 (for me): TPC Las Vegas (Canyons)
PRO
- Postcard perfect condition
- Fast play, 3 hr 45 minutes!
- Challenging greens
- Wonderful scenery
- Forward tees made the course accessible for a newer golfer; back tees would challenge a pro
- Replay rate (at least if you book thru JW Marriott) really affordable
- Nice, nice, nice golf carts – fast; great GPS system

CON
- Not close to strip

NET
- If you really love golf and can only play one course – I’d pick this one.

Please hit “helpful” if appropriate.

#2 (for me) Paiute Wolf
PRO
- Toughest of three Paiute courses
- My second favorite course in Vegas after TPC
- Great service
- Exceptional course conditions
- Great value if you play all three Paiute courses
- Beginners can play the forward tees and have a great time
- Pretty fast playing time (4:10 when I was there)

CON
- A bit far from Las Vegas
- Can be windy

NET
- Worth it.
- If you can, play one course in morning and a different Paiute course in afternoon
- I would play this course again anytime.

#4 Paiute Snow
PRO
- Great scenery
- Some easy holes, some tough ones
- Great service
- Exceptional course conditions
- Great value if you play all three Paiute courses
- Beginners can play the forward tees and have a great time
- Fast play (I don’t have the exact time, but pretty close to 4 hours)
- Marshall was really pleasant and helpful.

CON
- A bit far from Las Vegas
- Can be windy

NET
- Worth it.
- If you can, play one course in morning and a different Paiute course in afternoon
- I would play this course again anytime.

#5 Paiute Sun
PRO
- Good risk / reward choices on many holes
- Some easy holes, some tough ones
- Great service
- Exceptional course conditions
- Great value if you play all three Paiute courses
- Beginners can play the forward tees and have a great time
- Fast play (3:50 for me)

CON
- A bit far from Las Vegas
- Can be windy

NET
- Worth it.
- If you can, play one course in morning and a different Paiute course in afternoon
- I would play this course again anytime.

#6 Angel Park
PRO
- Fast, quick, and fun. 12 holes, par 3, that are re-creations of famous par 3 across the world
- My favorite was the recreation of TPC Sawgrass “island”
- Lit so you can play 9 of the 12 at night.
- Bargain

CON
- Reasonable well maintained, but not impeccable
- No Marshall to control pace

NET
- Really fun little course

#7 Bear’s Best
PRO
- Lots of variety; these are a collection of best holes from around the world
- Reasonable playing time, around 4:30
- The greens are a challenge to read. That’s a con for some people, I suppose.

CON
- Well maintained, but not as nice as the other high-end courses here

NET
- While this is a very nice course, it’s pretty expensive too. I think I’d suggest Paiute (esp: Wolf) or TPC Canyons before this course.

#8 Red Rock – Arroyo
PRO
- Least expensive of the seven big courses
- Greens were a lot easier to read than the other courses I played. I guess that could be a con if you are looking for max challenge.

CON
- Didn’t see a Marshall controlling pace; 5 hour play time
- Not in as good of condition as other courses

NET
- You get what you pay for
- If you have a car, drive a little further and pay a little more for Paiute courses or TPC.
- If you are on a tighter budget, this is a more affordable course and it was fun.

Rio Secco is one of the most beautiful coursses, I've ever played. Staff and facility were amazing. The course was impeccably maintained. Cart girl came around at least twice on front and back side. Price was fair. Surrounding homes were breathtaking. This place is upscale without being snobbish. I hope to play this course again.

I have golfed a LOT in Vegas and have wanted to try this track for some time. Boy, am I glad I did! From the outset the experience was great - v friendly and professional staff, a classy pro shop and a FANTASTIC course in great shape with great views of the strip in the distance. Many courses boast a "strip view" but this is the best so far. Also helps the course that this is where Butch Harmon teaches and where Tiger used to go when Butch coached him. Will definitely play there again.

We called ahead because one in our party was unable to walk... He needed a handicapped flag on his cart.. The head professional mr Brockelman told us that with a doctor's note there would be no issue... The NEXT day we arrive and mr Brockelman says that is not what he said and he did not remember saying that and our friend couldn't get a flag because the course was too wet and we couldn't drive one cart on the fairway... First of all, after I spoke to mr Brockelman the day before I immediately relayed the conversation I had with him to our group as bad news and good news... Bad news being cart path only and good news that our friend could use the handicart... Now, I don't make that stuff up do I... Second, we played the course and clearly mr Brockelman hadn't been out there because the course wasn't wet... It was a very disappointing display by one of the people who are the face of Rio Secco... There is no grace in the way mr Brockelman treated our friend...Mr Tom Jordan would be really disappointed as well…!
p.s. The Bar staff and all the other people working there were awesome...

I have not played a lot of different courses in Las Vegas but this course is one of the most unique that I have played. The scenery and elevation changes, especially on the front nine were like nothing I have ever experienced.

I really enjoyed this course before the redo but unfortunately they made a mess of the course. The new set of tees is the main culprit and the incredible amount of sand in the bunkers makes the course unenjoyable. The white tee set up is disaster for anyone who can hit the ball. They still have the 5 sets of tees on each hole but only 3 sets of markers out, yet I'm sure they will keep the tees up as much as possible which looks like their gameplan in making the course more playable..So for years of bringing golf groups here because of the stern test of golf I can no longer count on this golf course to do so.The upgrade of the bunkers and greens did not improve the course-only "dummied" it.

Thank you for coming back out at Rio Secco. As a returning guest, we appreciate the loyalty to us. I'm sorry to learn you were not happy with the renovations. The feedback from the guests has been tremendous, but clearly it didn't meet your standard or expectations. We are aware of the sand issue in the greenside bunkers - having just renovated with brand new bunkers, the sand is taking longer to settle than we anticipated. Regarding your comments on the tees, we will take this into serious consideration when assessing our course setup. I appreciate the call out. We are always striving to do our best and provide the best experience possible for all skill levels, so from the better playing perspective I thank you again for your constructive feedback. You may contact me directly if you're interested in additional discussion on your experience. mblais@viciproperties.com or 702-777-2423. -Mark

Really good golf course. Nice views of the Vegas strip. Course is laid out real well and was in near perfect shape when we played it in April. The entire staff at Rio Secco was outstanding. They all went out of their way to make our visit memorable. Well done! This is a must play while in LV.

The concierge made my tee time at Rio Vista giving it rave reviews. There wass nothing rave about it and it was difficult to find. I am an avid golfer and have played throughout the US and Canada. The cost was nearly $200 and not worth $70 which is what I paid at Las Vegas National and enjoyed a great deal.
