Character abounds in this unlikely out of the way watering hole. If you like authentic/rustic, take a break and check out the Pioneer Saloon. A weekday during Covid was no deterrent to the surprisingly diverse clientele enjoying burgers and breakfast. Outdoor seating was a little too breezy for us - we were glad to find a table inside. A big wood stove was lit just as the sun was moving below the mountains. While enjoying a beverage and waiting for food to arrive, take in the history. We each enjoyed a burger - quite satisfactory! If you are looking for character, and can easily overlook certain hygienic details go for it.

Decided to do an early lunch here after a morning hike of the Petroglyph Canyon Trail. About 30 minute drive from the trailhead. Very cool outdoor and indoor dining. Live music. Very COVID conscious. Great history, which the waitress was happy to share. The Ghost burger was delicious, accompanied by a fantastic draft of a Reno milk stout. So glad we made the trip. Highly recommend!

Located South of Las Vegas. 45 minutes by car. Exit at Jean and turn right winding up the road for seven miles. The saloon is the oldest in Nevada. 107 years to be exact. Bullet holes in the wall add to the ambiance. In 1942 Clark Gable sat at the bar waiting news of his wife’s plane crash. So a lot of history here. Lot of drinking happening here. Music in the evenings on the week end. The food was very average. The service was cheerful but slow. My burger came with no condiments and a un -toasted bun . Despite us telling the server what condiments we wanted. Server never returned to check on us. The sanitation standards were a bit sketchy, our table was wiped clean with a dirty bar towel, before seating us. I guess if you stick to the booze you will be OK.

Wanted to find a new place to stop off at on our way to Vegas...came across the Pioneer Saloon. Came just to check it out and wound up staying for a beer and some lunch. There was a man playing live music out on the back patio entertaining the guests while they ate. We ordered the haunted grilled cheese and it did not disappoint. Such a great combination of cheesy and a slight spice from the jalapeño bacon, cheese and ghost sauce. After we were done eating our waiter took us inside and had the bartender give us a little history on the saloon. Great service and a nice place to chill out and get some food. We will definitely be coming back to try some BBQ.

This is worth the drive. There are still bullet holes visible from back in the day when a poker game went bad. Clark Gable waited here for news on Carole Lombard's plane. You will see bikers and Junior League ladies, everyone goes to the Pioneer Salon. We've been a few times the food is great. Get out of town and go have an experience.
