Well curated and nice friendly staff/volunteers. I have been twice and around Christmas the rooms are decorated and they do candle light tours.

This museum is more on the history of Cheyenne County and the people who have lived in the county than it is of the Fort. I found the exhibits to be interesting, well-curated and well organized. The staff person came around occasionally to ask if he could interpret anything or show anything or answer questions. I thought I'd just pop... More

Great little museum to spend an hour in. Concise history of Fort Sidney. Great little museum to spend an hour in. Concise history of Fort Sydney. Friendly and knowledgeable volunteers. The Fort Sidney Museum is inside a two story house. Half of the museum covers military history from several wars of the past, as well as the post that once stood there. Lots of military artifacts to see. The other half of the house is the Cheyenne County museum. Lots of antiques from local history is displayed there. Down the... More

I was impressed with the amount of military information available in this little museum. I assumed the museum would only have info on the fort but it covered every military operation in the area, which included info on munition igloos that were built in the area during WW II and the armies use of Italian POWs and Japanese interment POWs.... I was expecting a Fort , but it was a ordinary older white two story house. The couple that were the tour guides actually live in the house . If your staying in Sidney, this would be good to see, but you would be disappointed if you drove 50 miles . There was only three rather small rooms full of... More

Sidney has amazing history. The museum board has put much effort to present the stuff in a fantastic manor. My favorite is the room dedicated to the Sioux Army depot. Very cool stuff in there.

This museum is located in a non-descript, residential section of Sidney, Nebraska, and can be a little difficult to locate if you aren't travelling with a GPS. Any effort required to reach The Fort Sidney Museum is energy well spent. On Sundays, which happened to be our arrival day, the museum doesn't open until 1PM. We arrived just in time... More
