About
Nestled within Souda Bay with views of the White Mountains, the turquoise waters of Marathi Beach remain calm and tranquil even when winds bring crashing waves to other beaches in the area. The tradeoff is a rocky sea floor—water shoes are advised as it can be sharp underfoot. Crete sightseeing cruises and scuba diving tours anchor here, and paddleboards, kayaks, and pedalos are available for hire. Arrive in the morning to secure a sunbed and an umbrella and cap off the day with a delightful meal at one of the seafood tavernas found at both ends of the beach. – Tripadvisor

We visited here on recommendation from our hotel and it did not disappoint. The first day we visited was a Sunday so the whole beach filled very quickly with local families. The second time we visited was on a Tuesday and it was far quieter with around 75% less people and these were mostly tourists. Both days were fantastic in their own right.

We visited in mid-May and the waters were very cold but as we expected. The beach itself was picturesque and clean. There are some good facilities like 2 tavernas, a bar, and kiosk selling some lunch items, toilets and dressing rooms. There is also a carpark.

This is a great beach only around 20-30 minutes drive away from Chania Town. If travelling here at the weekend, it’s recommended you come before 11am as the beach fills up very quickly. Overall this was a great beach and I would recommend to anyone staying within the area.

We have just come back from a week in Marathi. We stayed in a villa only 100 yards from the beach. Absolutely fantastic beach for families. Not overcrowded (not sure how it would be in the middle of August). It is 8 euro a day to hire 2 sunbeds which i think is very reasonable. The water was calm and shallow, great for the kids to play and snorkel. If you have children i would highly recommend visiting this beach.
We also took the chance to hire a pedalo with a slide , this was 20 euro for 1hour which i again i thought was reasonable. plenty of places to eat and drink around the beach, these are a little pricey on drinks but the food is good value for money with big portions.

Marathi is an okay beach, but nothing compared to other beaches in Crete like Falassarna which is much much nicer with better amenities.
Marathi is a pretty small beach, there are 3 small beach areas. There is a parking lot just a few meters away for 4€. There are lounge chairs and umbrellas but the lounge chairs are thin material and pretty uncomfortable after awhile. We arrived around 11:15 and there were still plenty of beds, but if you go in afternoon ot may be full as there is only a limited number of umbrellas. It was 8€ for the 2 beds and an umbrella, but we were a couple rows back. The water is very nice, calm and clear. Would be good for young children.
We did have a great lunch at Patrelantonis restaurant just adjacent to the beach.
Overall, Marathi was a very average beach which was underwhelming. Nothing great, you could definitely find better beaches in Crete.

This is a very quiet and relaxing beach. Shallow and calm waters. Excellent for babies and kids. The cost of a lounge chair is 8EU - 10EU. There is a restaurant on location but we did not try it - seemed full when we passed by. Come early ie before 11 or sooner in the summer months. Parking is limited. A short drive from Chania. No turtles.

Great little beach but too much noise from one restaurant on north end. Their music is so loud that with the wind direction, it can be heard loud 600m away. Should not be allowed. They are ruining what is a great little cove with lovely beach and great water. Shame.

Idyllic beach very clean. Super soft sand and great for children. Easy to get into the crystal clear water . Super swimming.
Plenty of parking. Sunbeds a very good price and sanitised after each use .

We had a great afternoon at this beach. Umbrellas ans sunbeds are available for 8€/whole day. Swimming to the close island was wonderful, no sea urchins, jellyfish or rip tides were present. Showers and chaniging huts are available. Also many bars and excellent seafood restaurant available close by.

Nothing special. Worse than a sea of Chalkidiki. It is not worth visiting if you stay on the island for 5 days. A lot of people did not enjoy it at all and the waters are not clear in comparison with other beaches of the island. Maybe it's a good choice only for locals who want to go somewhere nearby for someone who wants to see "special pictures" NO

This is the beach in Crete that I liked the most. Always sheltered from the wind, a sea that looks like a swimming pool with light blue and transparent water and with many fish right up to the shore. Free parking, umbrella and sunbeds for 8 euros, excellent tavern close to the beach. For beautiful days in complete relaxation!!!

Although I can understand that it has many reviews given its proximity to Chania, I am very surprised by the not very low score: we didn't even stop considering that the beach has a maximum depth of 4m! And what's worse is that it is very close to the road frequented by customers in cars, it feels like being in a car park! The week of August certainly doesn't help given the crowding, but the negative structural characteristics remain.
