Achlia (sometimes written Axlia) is a clean photogenic beach that we visit every year. It is located just past the village of Galini in a sheltered bay. There is a brick-paved road tht goes down (and back up) that can be parked on. The water is usually pretty clear and the rocks on each side are good for shelter. In October 2020 there weresome annoying biting flies which seem to appear briefly every few years but these were no longer present in August 2022, October 2022 or August 2023 on our visits. In the peak of summer quite a lot of the beach is occupied by sunbeds which are advertised for €8 per day. There is always enough beach to sit on without needing to fork out. This is an ideal location when there are strong winds as the beach is very well sheltered. The rocks at either side offer good snorkelling. There is a cafe and a snack hut on the beach and at least 1 freshwater shower.
The water is usually very clear, although the first 3-4m from the shore can be a bit cloudy. The bottom drops away quite rapidly but thanks to the calm water people of all ages will find it easy to get in and out. The 'sand' is too coarse for building sandcastles but isn't too difficult to walk on

A well run shale and small pebble beach. It is run buy the people who run the Galini taverna at the back of the beach. The beds were well spaced out and sanitized. It can be a little steep to get in and out of the water. The taverna offer a beach service for drinks and snacks.

This is a long, sandy beach with a few small pebbles as you enter. Depending on the current, sometimes the waves create a little "step" as you enter, but we saw people of all ages handling it without problems.
If you swim a little further out, you are by yourself and the waters are almost always crystal clear. You can sea small fish even without a snorkel. If you enjoy snorkeling, the two edges of the beach have a few rocks and are ideal for this activity.
There are sunbeds and umbrellas for rent at a reasonable price. There is also a cantina and a restaurant for drinks and meals and free parking.

Bonda, the beach of Achlia, is a small beach with pebbles. You can easily reach it from the main road. One part is organised; the other part is natural. The drop entering the water is quite deep. There are several places good for snorkelling. The tavern offers good food. Beach service is available.

This beach is one of our favorites in Crete. It is small and not to crowed. The water is very clear and the taverna close by service with food and drinks. The beach is very clean. 6EUR for double bed and parasol.

Very well organised beach mainly thanks to the efforts of the staff of the adjoining taverna Galini. Plenty of space, sunbeds, umbrellas and easy to swim from. Showers and changing rooms.

Like the title states, Achlia beach is quiet and secluded and feels like a secret. The beach itself is a little more rocky than the other beaches in the area but the weather is perfect and protected by the wind.

Galini taverna on the beach is wonderful and the food was amazing. The staff is incredibly friendly.

Only reason it is not a 5 star is because we are still itching from the sand fleas!! My wife was lying on her stomach reading and she got bit a ton on her chest which was very conspicuous the rest of our trip. My ankles are shredded.

Anyway, prepare for the sand bugs and you will have a great time!
