I first visited Pioneer Village in 1966 during the summer prior to my senior year in high school. The place was still relatively shiny and new, and packed with visitors. My two buddies and I spent an entire August day there. A teenage road trip. Fast forward a half a century. On a visit to Kearney, Nebraska to see the... More

Don't be put off by the exterior; this is an old attraction that's showing its age. Once you get inside you will be BLOWN AWAY by the quality and quantity of items on display. It's like a Smithsonian museum in the middle of Nebraska. Everything you can imagine related to the development of modern life in America. Especially enormous collections... More

If my sister hadn't told me that we MUST go visit the Pioneer Museum on our trip to Kearney, we wouldn't have. Even as we drove up, I thought, This could be a mistake". The exterior and signage seemed kitchy. The collection is AMAZING. Very well curated, extraordinary planes, trains and automobiles, along with much other, well organized and memorable... More

Holdredge is an easy side trip from I80 at about Kearney, NE. The museum is large with many exhibits. Plan on 3-4 hours. We were there in February when the interactive exhibits and the cafe were not open. But it was nice to have this amazing place to ourselves. One warning, there was no heat in the main building except... More

I'm glad my kids got to see this impressive collection of things from yesteryear. It sparked a lot of good conversations! We went on a 50- degree day in December and none of the buildings are heated. I would definitely suggest going when it is warm! Some parts of the museum seem to be deteriorating, but overall it is a... More

We visited on Friday aft. and most of day on Sat. We went with our daughter and family(5yr.&14yr. kids). Seems to be something there to interest all ages. My son-in-law was interested in all the vehicles and the development of engines through the years. All of information on each item telling about origins (who bought it new & who donated)... More

Just try and see all of the fascinating exhibits in one day. This is an often overlooked attraction that should be added to every travelers list of must see places. With that said, it is quickly obvious that this is a fading attraction. The historic carousel is in decrepit condition, there is a need for paint on most buildings. Still,... More

If you are interested in Americana, this is the place to go. The collection of horseless carriages and horse carriages is comprehensive to say the least. Then the rest is icing on the cake. A great collection of historical farm equipment and more. The old merchandise store is a true picture of what they were really like in the 1800's.... More
