The DT Y (YMCA) is located at 1039 P Street, 68508 (11th & P) in the heart of DT Lincoln ph. 402 434 9260, across the street from the Embassy Suites Hotel. The Facility is open weekdays at 5am however it is not uncommon for this place to be ready to roll at 4:30a. Weekends open at 7am. Limited hours on holidays, closed only on Easter & Christmas. There is full staff weekdays always willing to help or answer questions and keeping things going. It is in walking distance to many restaurants, an arts district, Saturday farmers market May-Oct, Historic Haymarket district, Pinnacle Arena, Husker Football (memorial stadium), Saltdogs Baseball, theater, movies, numerous coffee shops and specialty shops as well as UNL city campus and local / state government and banking / insurance. Though in a prime location it is an older 70's multilevel facility. The major challenge of this location is of parking and will be very obvious. There is metered street parking with a maximum of 90 minutes operational from 8a to 6 pm at the rate of 25 cents per half hour, meters only accept dimes and quarters. Almost Rigidly enforced by the Park-n-Go system. LJS and Q St. parking garages are first hour free or can be validated at the Y for 50 cents for the first two hours, they are located on Q St. at the 900 and 1100 blocks. Q St. has a 24hr attendant LJS is limited at times (eve/weekends). Additional hours are $1 each or $9 max per 24hr period. Peak Gym hours are after 6am, 1130am and after work 3:30pm. Sometimes parking is a bit easier avoiding these times of day. But regarding Saturday Home football games ur a well let's just forget it, it's almost impossible and very frustrating ! Almost every city bus in town drops at the front door or two blocks away at the Gold's building StarTran Hub 11th & N St. All city busses have bike racks to transport up to two bikes (bike & bus). The Y also connects within 10 blocks of major bike trails going N, NW and SE. There are limited bike racks in front or bike racks are available on the East side of the building or in the north alley. The Gym has a mostly a male middle age to older demographic of very loyal regular members and a downtown "business class" crowd. However don't let that scare you off. The place is also very diverse as well to female members, students, guests, travelers etc. Everyone is welcome however a family with children may not find this location to be their best choice, however there are three other accommodating city locations Fallbrook NW, NE Family, and Cooper South branches. There is a daycare weekday evenings for a few hours after work that may be helpful to busy parents and families. The facility has current and or newer Precore Fitness equipment, most all have their own television screen, but bring your own headphones. The facility is very safe however please do lock up your bike outside and or your locker, sometimes there are travelers, non-members and or rif raft. Mini lockers are also free for small valuables (billfold, keys, phone etc.). Towels are provided on the first level. Features of this facility are: The main level has a majority of the fitness equipment with free weighs in the basement along with the swimming pool and the women's locker area. Men's and Women's steam room, Lap pool with 5 - 6 lanes, 80-82 degrees water for the hardy swimmer or for training purposes, there are also open pool times but lap lanes are always available and at peak times lanes are shared. Again this part may not be so family friendly. Portable pool stairs are also available for accessibility. The second level is the Men's Locker and stairs from the shower direct to the pool two floors below (basement). Empty lockers without a name or lock may be used for DAY USE ONLY, locks left overnight are cut and items are placed in lost and found! The gym / basketball court is also on the second floor with early morning basketball M-W-F around 5:30a and every weekday over the noon hour starting at 11:30a. The spin room (bikes) also new are oddly placed off to the middle of the gym so you have to be on the ball so to speak to find it...The third floor has a group exercise room for Yoga, Pilates, Step, Tai Chi, Kick Boxing etc., Schedules are fluid and can change often grab a printed schedule or check online. The running / walking track is also on third floor which is essentially suspended above the gym / basketball court. No level 4 ! Level 5 has racquetball courts check the schedule and go for it. All floors are accessible by elevator. ADA shower & toilet is available in the 2nd floor Men's locker North bay. All member benefits are included except swimming lessons and personal training, there may be some other exceptions too. Fitness tests and one time equipment orientation are included free too ! Very often initiation is free from Nov thru January and again in the summer. No contracts and month to month billing is to your bank account or credit card, discounts for annual payments are possible but it's minimal. Personal pricing is available for lower incomes by application. There are no free memberships. The Y is a non-profit charitable organization. I have been going since 2008 and would not go anywhere else...12-20-2011

Weight room is downstairs in the "basement". Cardio is on main floor in two different rooms. Men's locker room is up two flights of stairs. Open showers. Obviously an old building and a goofy set up. But they did let me use us a non local member, so I've got that going for me.
