An amazing underworld full of color awaits those who visit Viðgelmir lava cave. The Cave is 1585 meters long and is claimed to hold no rival in Iceland.

With an all new walkway and permanent lighting system the first 700 meter can now be enjoyed with ease. This provides a cave that is family friendly. A tour to the caves end is for those who desire more adventure.

Much better than expected. It's a very large lava tube, fascinating from beginning to end. Emilia was our guide. She was very knowledgeable and told us many interesting facts about the cave and how it was formed. She made geology sound fun! She also told us gripping stories about the history of the surrounding area. Would visit the cave again... More

We booked this through our Hotel at Husafell. We drove up from the hotel on snow covered roads in our studded tyre hire car-a SuzukiGrand Vitura- with no problems. The final 2k along a track could be difficult in deep snow because it does not appear to have road edge beacons. We were the only two people on our trip... More

Our trip to the cave was fantastic. With it being our first time in Iceland, we were looking for something that was unique to the region, and this turned out to be the perfect adventure. Our guide, Jim, was friendly, personable, and very knowledgable. Being mid-January, it was a bit frigid. However the wind and cold weather ebbed once we... More

Visiting the cave was really great. We went there in December, it was freezing cold outside and snow everywhere. After a short walk to the entrance there is a large opening in the ground where you go downstairs (well equipped with helmet and helmet light). As it is pretty cold in winter make sure, you wear sthg warm. Our guide... More

After changing our plans we ended up visiting the cave last minute, and it was well worth braving the weather and roads! As we got there early we had a personal tour with just me and my wife. Very knowledgeable guide (Egill) and some fascinating features! Well worth it and certainly a must for anyone seeking out hidden gems!

I drove to Viðgelmir and was there about half an hour before my tour started and I had already booked online. This was my first time to Hallmundarhraun and the area is very beautiful. About 20 people were in my group and we were set up with helmets with lights on. The guide led us to the cave and then... More

Knowing that we would not experience something similar elsewhere, we made the effort to drive out to the caves and took a tour in the early evening. The guide was very knowledgeable and interesting and put us at ease in an unfamiliar environment, while telling stories about the surrounding countryside. Expensive (as is most of Iceland) but worthwhile.

We did the self drive and came there a little early. The area around is quite breathtaking with glaciers surrounding the plain that the cave is located on and the Icelandic highlands are close by. Everyone was given helmets with lights on and the tour was easy to do and took about an hour and a half. It was very... More

Traveling through Iceland we came upon The Cave. The sites driving to the cave are spectacular, Seeing the lava fields and surrounding mountains and volcanoes with snow on them are breathtaking.. Not being prepared as we usually are, and reading the previous reviews beforehand, we arrived, paid and jumped in line for the next tour. The steps entering the cave... More

A nice drive to the cave, Not really a lot off signs for the cave only one sign on the last road to the cave. Facillitis at the cave are okay. There is tea and coffee also very expensive. For the price they ask for a tour, you expected coffee or tea included the tour. I nice in the cave, walking... More

Hi Haratim. Im sorry to hear that you where disappointed with your visit to the cave. All though from your review it seems that you enjoyed the caving it self, apart from the guides sense of humor. Price seems to be the point that concerns you and contributes to your low rating of the cave. Our price is infect very... More
