History of the Fur trade told here!
Oct 2021
This museum experience was broad and deep. I expected it would cover midwest fur trade, but it touched native American tribes throughout the U.S. It also has a short outdoor trail that leads to the James Bordeaux trading center and a tepee. A great way to spend 2 hours.

Really well put together museum!

This small museum is really packed with Native + fur artifacts. Very nicely displayed! I would happily suggest the Museum of the Fur Trade for anyone interested in Native American history, in fact anyone interested in fur would love it also. After the museum you can wander a foot path to the trading post sod cabin & warehouse. 👍🏻

Great history of the fur trade
Sep 2021
This museum is quite unsuspecting! We got way more than we expected! There was the cabin built into the side of a hill that was interesting. Loved the story of the traders who came here in the early 1800's and the hardships they endured. What we did not expect was a huge display of weapons used during that period - hundreds of them, each with a story! Definitely would go there again.

All you ever wanted to know about the fur trade is here!
Aug 2021
You start your visit with a very informative film about the history of the fur trade. Then you see the exhibits. These exhibits include probably 50-75 guns, numerous traps, & many exhibits on Native Americans. Behind the museum is a recreation of an original fur trading office. If you are in the area, stop by!

This was , for us, an unexpected gem. We landed here quite by accident and found this small museum to be comprehensive and loaded with interesting artifacts. The displays were informative and well presented. Don’t pass this one by.

Too many guns to count

This museum is small but really well organized. It tells the story of the different areas of the west and the progressive account of the fur trade industry. Lots of artifacts to see.

Well Worth a Stop
Jul 2021 • Friends
I was really blown away by this small museum. It was totally worth the stop. The introductory video, professional displays, and audio tour, were professionally done and informative. The museum and small gift shop were spotlessly clean inside and out. I was really impressed and that says a lot because I visit as many of these small museums as I can find.

A WORLD CLASS MUSEUM
Jul 2021
It is difficult to put into words just how blown away I was by this museum. I was excited to go to begin with, and it still amazed me and outdid any expectations. It is an absolute shame that this museum is not more nationally known. Yes, I said nationally. I have been to Museums all over, and I would rank this as being on par with any Smithsonian Museum in regards to amount, variety, condition, facts, and significance of artifacts. I cannot believe a collection of this magnitude and condition still exists. I cannot wait to go back and any trip to western Nebraska needs to have a visit here as a focal point of the plans. And all of this for $5 per adult? What a ridiculously low fee--I felt compelled to donate more and you will too. Very big THANK YOU to all the donors and volunteers who put this display on. Bravo. If you enjoy history and are travelling anywhere within a three hour drive and don't stop there, shame on you.

This is a "must see". We had been told about this museum and were anxious to visit it but we had No idea what a great place this is. Very well done. A great video to introduce you to the Fur Trade and its history. The textiles room was incredible. Do not miss visiting this if you are ever in the area.
