Our visit to Rowse’s 1+1 Ranch in Burwell, NE was such an amazing experience! The Ranch offers wonderful accommodations- the guest cabins are very well appointed, comfortable, and welcoming. The property is beautiful and all activities fun, educational and exciting. Tammy and Jerry are just the most warm, genuine, and hard-working people you will ever meet. We savored every bite of Tammy’s delicious meals prepared with meats and produce from the Ranch and cherish all the memories our family made during our visit. If you ever find yourself on a road trip through the great state of Nebraska or looking for a fun destination- look up Rowse’s 1+1 Ranch and look no further! We are already making plans for or next visit!

I can’t say enough great things about our days on the ranch. Tammy and Jerry were gracious hosts. The food was fresh and excellent. Every day was so interesting as we spent hours in the saddle over the most unique and beautiful terrain. Actually having the chance to move cattle over large areas is such an experience. You get a glimpse as to how cattle are raised and land managed. Such an appreciation for the care and work that goes into raising these animals. The land is vast and peaceful. A great experience .

Due to time constraints on a trip back from Montana I telephoned the ranch to see if an abbreviated stay could be arranged. It was left that I would receive a call back or message on my readily accessible cell phone. This was checked frequently so that travel plans could be determined. Neither was received and a follow up telephone message was again not returned. The courtesy of a return message regarding my inquiry was certainly warranted!

Had a wonderful time at Jerry and Tammy’s ranch. They are terrific hosts. Great horses and so fun to work with the cattle.
Tammy’s food is delicious. Jerry is a great, patient teacher out in the pastures and in the pen. You will love your stay!!

Back from a week at the ranch. Great week. Tammy and Jerry are friendly and great hosts. Meals delicious. If you walk away from the table hungry it is your own fault.
The horses and cows are healthy and well cared for. Jerry is a wonderful teacher. I have a whole new respect for ranchers.
Cabins clean and comfortable.
Weather was great. Would definitely return.

This working Ranchcombines everything you can hear from a place of this style: silence, nature, close contact with the animals of the ranch, riding with exceptional horses, go deep in the life of a ranch. It also has the affection of the owners, and the exquisite meals prepared by Tammy. And to all this and more add the price that is very cheap for the quality it has. If you want to live the life of the west visit this ranch as its name indicates it is 1 plus 1 and much more

One of the best vacations, if not the best, I’ve had. Traveling solo, not sure what to expect, needn’t have worried. Other guests were so much fun. Tammy, Jerry and gang made you feel welcome. Like staying at a favorite aunt and uncle’s house when you were young. There is LOTS of riding, and riding, and riding. Then more riding. If you choose not to ride one day, no problem. Tammy taught me how to make cheese the day I stayed in. Horses are sure and steady with excellent ground manners and work ethic. Cabins are large and beautifully decorated with great water pressure, cold a/c and a handy small refrigerator. The food is plentiful, varied and delicious Tammy goes the extra mile to accommodate special dietary needs. The laughs and lively conversations are also plentiful and completely non-fattening. Could go on and on with the raves. Would I go back? You bet.

You often never visit a place that you research on line that doesn't have some level of exaggeration or "not quite as advertised" regarding it's facilities or the experience it promises. That is not the case at Rouses 1+1. Having been raised by an Iowa Cattle Farmer - I knew a few things about cattle - but Cattle feeding in Iowa vs Wester Nebraska is night and day.

My brief but incredible experience at Rouses will I hope continue to grow when I return which seems to be the norm at the 1+1. People that I rode with had been coming back year after year for almost 15-20 years.

Tammy and Jerry Rouse and their right hand Horsewoman, T.O. (Tonya) are the real deal. You get the best of comfort and service excellence in the rustic but beautiful outfitted cabins, top notch award winning quarter horses that are impeccably cared for and extremely well mannered and some of the best food you will ever have prepared by an incredibly gracious and down to earth Ranch owner.

Tammy and Jerry are experienced, authentic, and lovely people. They specialize in a no frills but extremely comfortable environment and entrusts the "guests" with real work and real riding. The two days that I spent on the ranch after just having recovered from double knee joint replacement was nothing short of perfection. This isn't a resort - this is a extremely well run cattle ranch. If you are looking to learn the ropes so to speak while also having respite in a beautifully appointed air conditioned custom built cabin Rouses won't disappoint. There are no gimmicks here - and if you aren't riding you are able to help in the barn or just rock on your porch - you aren't expected to do anything you aren't comfortable doing but you are encouraged to participate at whatever level you feel comfortable - or in some cases - where Jerry feels you would be most safe and the animals would be the most safe - which is exactly how my Grandfather treated me when I was growing up on the farm.

While I was the "green horn" in the bunch - meaning all the other guests save for one were "Regulars" from Germany and Holland, as well as France - I was warmly greeted by authentically kind folks a-lot of whom had more practical horsemanship experience than I did. But I was well tended - was able to learn a-lot just by spending a little time with Jerry - but it was the other guests who were always willing to help - always striking up a conversation - and we looked out for each other while we were covering alot of ground. Just a great bunch of people from different parts of the world who for the time were all Ranch Hands at Rouses.

The thing about the Rouse Ranch is that you aren't "fawned" over - no one is there to "fluff your pillow" and the personalities you meet of of real people, working a real ranch with a tremendous amount of work to be done. But the Rouses and The folks on the Ranch make you feel like you're part of anything you feel you can do and are willing to spend the time to make sure you learn the right way and the safe way. Nothing that wouldn't be taught or expected of a hired hand.

I'd stress that anyone expecting to be pampered? You're appetite will definitely be but you will be expected to be on time - and you will be assigned tasks in terms of what the goals for the day are - be it welfare checks, herding, or sorting cattle, everyone is made to feel part of the daily schedule. And everyone works together - skill sets are matched up - greenhorns ride with seasoned, everyone stays in close communication and you are never unsupervised. But at the same time people give you the respect to assume you are following the basic rules of horsemanship and working together as a team. While you are taking in some of the most beautiful part of the Sandhills in the world.

I can't say enough about the accommodations, clean - with great water pressure, super comfortable beds super comfortable bedding with the special touches of antique equipment and rustic wood through and through. I especially loved and well appointed handmade by Tammy headboards

I'm sure I'll get to know Tammy and Jerry better as I go back - but whether you long to live like a cowboy, learn more about the animal husbandry that goes along with the job or just like to work up an appetite by working on horseback - Rouses 1+1 is exactly what I describes itself to be in a part of the country whose beauty is best experienced on the back of a well kept well tempered and award winning breed of horse. And man I can't say enough about the food! Every meal was hearty, fresh garden vegetables and some of the best Ribeye's I've ever had (and that's coming from Iowa first and 25 years living in Chicago. Tammy Rouse would put Mortons or Gibsons to shame with her Grilled Ribeye!

I can't wait to "Ride the Brand" on my next visit! Thanks again Tammy, Jerry and T.O. for making my brief trip one I'll remember for a lifetime.
