My family and I were guided by our outstanding climbing guide, Cole, who assisted us with every aspect of climbing we requested: multiple top ropes climbing as well as anchor building. By the time we met him, 7 separate top ropes were already set up. The climbs were of varying difficulty and some very challenging. We will absolutely hire Cole and Rock Climb Montana every time we are in Montana. I highly recommend for learning climbing as a family or individual private lessons for more advanced climbers. Cole was knowledgeable, reliable and easy to be around. Highly recommend RCM.

Thank you for your outstanding review. We are glad you appreciated Cole's professionalism - everything from having 7 ropes ready to his easy-going and knowledgeable teaching style. And we are very happy that you will be back next season. See you then!

We wanted to try something different and adventurous during our trip to Glacier National and happened upon Rock Climb Montana. We did the half day, afternoon rock climb at Stryker Rock. Since we are not experienced rock climbers, Lee the owner, advised the Stryker location as easier to learn and the opportunity for more climbs from easy to more difficult. Pat was our guide and he helped us with the basics of tying knots, securing our harness, how to position our feet and hands, and how to belay so more than one of us can climb at a time. Soon enough, we were climbing starting with a beginner climb and advancing as Pat choose the appropriate difficulty based on our individual abilities. Pat made sure we all had a fun experience but that we also challenged ourselves. Our family of 4 each had opportunities to climb to our content and he helped us get some great photos of our experience. Plan to include rock climbing with Rock Climb Montana if visiting the Glacier National Area.

Pat and our other guides have had years of experience teaching climbing for Rock Climb Montana at the three venues we frequent. Our guides know the areas, know the climbs, and know how to direct you to climbs that will provide just the right amount of challenge. Our priorities are safety, fun, and learning. We want you to leave with big smiles on your faces, and new knowledge in your heads. It seems we were successful. Thanks for climbing with us and thanks for taking the time to provide such a splendid review.

While in Montana I was not going to get away without taking my 18 y.o. son rock climbing. He is an avid indoor rock climber with limited outdoor experience. Cole, our guide at Rock Climb Montana, could not have been better. He and his partner for the day had arrived at 7:30 to set up the ropes and were waiting by the roadside for us to show up. The directions to the location by the Stillwater River about 30 minutes north of Whitefish, MT, were perfect. After being fitted for gear (everything needed was supplied) we took a short hike down to the cliffs and ropes.

Safety was clearly discussed and observed at all times. I have some fear of heights, but felt surprisingly good about the whole experience. Having rocks and ropes to hold on to an experienced guide makes all the difference. I was concentrating on the wall in front of me and the task at hand and experienced no vertigo.

This was never a concern for my son who rapidly moved through routes which progressed in difficulty and height. Cole, as was my preference, focused on Bennett's climbing and taught him knots, anchoring techniques, repelling and how to lead climb all appropriate for his level of expertise. After lunch, which we brought ourselves (a byproduct of pandemic precautions, I gather) we ran some more routes until Cole suggested setting up some more ropes to challenge my son. It would have been easy not to do this and just pat him the back and have him retry some of the routes. It was evident Cole was concerned about providing us with the best experience possible. At the end of the day we both felt safe, tired, and fulfilled.

FYI: The packing list provided on the website is appropriate to the needs of the trip. Everything may not be needed every trip, but weather conditions can change rapidly. The website says the climbs happen rain or shine, perhaps because rain can turn to shine quickly or it can be raining on one side to the mountain and not the other? There are no bathroom or changing facilities on site. You are mostly in the shade by the banks of the river. Other climbers will likely be present, but this was not a hindrance. Tipping is, of course, important to the guides.

You are correct. The website says rain or shine because in summertime, we will often get just a short sprinkle of rain which quickly clears. That said, on the exceptional day when it is raining hard, we will reschedule or refund as the climber prefers. If it starts to rain hard mid-lesson, then we will cut the session short, prorate the cost, and refund the difference. Thanks for taking the time to give us such a thorough and positive review.

My wife and I have some experience climbing, and we wanted to go with a guide to make the most of our time in Montana on our honeymoon. We showed up right on time and our guide, Cole Maxwell, was there waiting for us. He'd already set up the ropes so we could start right away. He provided incredible instruction and was confident, on top of being a very accomplished climber himself. He let us do both top-rope and lead, and on top of some incredible climbing, I learned some new techniques related to the gear. 10/10 recommend, and if you're a beginner/intermediate level climber looking for a challenge, ask for Cole as a guide!

Link, the owner, checked in a couple of times to make sure that our group had everything we needed to have a great trip. He told us where to camp and made sure we had the gear needed. Cole, our guide, showed us perfect climbs for our abilities and was able to keep 5 people with a wide range of ability climbing all day. He picked some great climbs to challenge us and showed us where to climb the next day on our own. Plus, he showed us where to access the lake to cool down when our bodies were exhausted. Overall, we had a perfect day!

Hi Wendy, The lake plunge at Lake Koocanusa or the river plunge at the Stryker climb site is a great way to end the day. Glad Cole was able to find something for everyone in your group of mixed skill-level climbers. Thanks for taking the time to write such a wonderful review. Cheers, Link

Just an incredible and truly real experience. We've traveled a fair amount, and hosted tours ourselves because our line of work, and I can say our experience with RCM was as real as it gets. This was not an overly-polished tour or some boring kids ride. Our guide, Pat, was a legitimate rock climber and was super attuned to our comfort, skill level, and interests. We went a really private spot along a stream in a national forest and had the day to ourselves. We felt like we were out there with an old friend and that made it really special. He took photos of us and was as impactful as the climbing itself.

The climbing was really solid and not too formidable (We both have climbed before, but never together). I will say this is an amazing experience as a couple and would highly suggest it. There are not many other sports where you can mimic the team work of climbing and belaying. on our 45 day + road trip across the country this was one of our top-3 things we did.

Also, a huge shout out to Link, and his wife Marya, even watched our pup (for a small fee), so we could truly relax. Pat, Marya, and Link are salt of the earth and just wanted us to have the best experience possible - and we did. Would recommend 10/10.

Important to note, I NEVER leave reviews.

Climbing with your partner can be a wonderful bonding experience. Thank you so much for leaving such an incredible review, especially since you NEVER leave reviews. Say Hi to Theo the dog for us. He is really adorable and a good ball player. Cheers, Link and Marya

My family of four had a great day out rock climbing at Stryker. Our guide was able cater to the needs of the adults and two kids (9 and 12). The outstanding customer service began even before we arrived in Montana with this company helping us to track down a rental car when every place was sold out. Thank you!

Rock Climbing with "Rock Climb Montana" was a great experience. When we got there everything was ready for us and they had everything we needed. There was a short and beautiful walk to the climbing walls. Our guide showed us a few things that we needed to know, then we started climbing. The site of the climb was amazing. The wall was tall and shady and the Stillwater Creek in the background was fun to climb by. There were some great warm up climbs and some more challenging climbs for people who have been rock climbing before. The guide, Cole, was helpful but never gave the impression that he was hovering over us or intruding. If you want to get a full experience and try a few different types of climbs I recommend the full day. If you just want to try rock climbing for the first time a half day is enough. I had a really fun time and hope to get back out with Rock Climb Montana soon.

Thanks for your great review. We like to meet our guests right at the climbing area. That way, the guide can arrive early and set everything up, which minimizes down time and maximizes fun time. Next time, try our Lake Koocanusa climbing area. See you then.

This is a “must do” for families with kids from age 4 - 21. My six and eight-year old grandkids, and their Mom, had an amazing afternoon climbing with Ella, our extremely knowledgeable and fun guide from Rock Climb Montana. They feel it was a highlight of their vacation, which says a lot when you’re comparing it to Glacier National Park, fishing on Flathead Lake and Walking in the Trees on Whitefish Mountain. They are determined to come back each year to progress to more challenging climbs.

We had a blast rock climbing at Stryker Rock. It was such a pristine location and we enjoyed the fresh air and sounds of the whitewater rushing by. Isaiah, our guide, was so patient and taught us the basics of climbing. We belayed one another as we climbed. It was the perfect morning and we would recommend it to anyone looking to enjoy the gorgeous natural setting that surrounds Whitefish.
