My day started at the coffee bar at the Whitefish Mountain resort base lodge. I met my awesome guide, Zach, who gave me a safety briefing & overview of the trip. We checked our safety equipment (shovel, probe & transceiver) and we reviewed the map, and Zach explained what were the expected forecasted avalanche conditions. From there we hopped on the lifts, we performed our transceiver test and we went to the backcountry.
Zach encouraged me to ask questions, which I did, as I want to learn the most I can about avalanches. I quickly realized he was an expert in the subject, and that he was guiding me in a very safe manner. Zach also took me to an awesome place, were we had three epic POW runs in a bowl called “big trees”.
Backcountry skiing is a great experience, however it involves many dangers, and Zach was professional, prudent, pedagogic and at the same time gave an unforgettable fun back country experience.
I would highly recommend to use Whitefish Vertical Adventures for your Backcountry ski experience.

At first, we booked a full day excursion but after the warm weather, we switched destinations and changed to a half day. Of course we were refunded the difference.
Eric was out guide and he was extremely thorough with introductions to ice climbing basics and was able to answer any questions we had. We had an awesome time and we learned a lot.
Eric was also flexible with setting my boyfriend up on a fixed line so he could get pictures while I was climbing. We got some amazing pictures that we can't stop looking at.

Joel was excellent!! Very patient and knowledgeable. This was my first time ice climbing and it was one of the best times I've ever had. All of my expectations were met. I was not disappointed in the least. I felt very comfortable and confident in his skills. I highly recommend Whitefish Vertical Adventures to anyone at any level of experience.

I had the privilege of spending two full days of lift accessed backcountry skiing with Whitefish Vertical. Although not new to powder skiing this was my first time ski touring. From the second I met Joel I knew that I was in for a great experience. He is kind, patient and takes safety very seriously. When I visited Whitefish it was on the tail-end of some questionable snow conditions. It was obvious that Joel was incredibly experienced local guide who knew the snowpack and the mountain well. Although it had not snowed in over a week Joel managed to find powder stashes to give me the best possible experience. I cannot recommend Whitefish Vertical enough, I will be back personally just to ski with Joel.

If you read this and choose ski with Joel, be sure to grab a beer with him once safely off the mountain and tell him Alastair sent you!

Everything about this experience was top notch and professional. My husband and I booked the Serenity Falls all day climb. We were pleasantly surprised to find out that each booking is a private party climbing experience.
Joel (owner & guide) was thoughtful and well prepared. His instructions were clear and encouraging. He made you feel at ease and that you were just going out with a friend who wants to share his passion for climbing. His equipment was clean and in excellent condition, we felt safe and confident in the whole process.
The climbing was challenging but the surroundings were beautiful. We could take our time to to test out techniques making the climb achievable and true feeling of accomplishment at the end of the day.
This was by far one of the best adventures we have ever taken on any trip. We can't wait to come back next year with our 2 boys.

Extraordinary day. Outstanding guide (Stephan) and incredible service. I asked specifically for a learning experience and that was exactly what I got. Fabulous. I cant say enough good things. From talking with Joel, to actually booking, to the service and the experience this was top shelf without qualifiers. I highly recommend Whitefish Vertical without hesitation and will use them again.

Joel was an exceptional guide and gave us a first-class climbing experience. He is incredibly knowledgeable and shared a lot of helpful information during the trip. We did the full day at Serenity Falls and would highly recommend this tour. Thank you Joel! We will never forget this experience!

Great family adventure for our three teenagers and parents! We were short on equipment and Joel graciously lent us the missing components. It was a safe, exhilarating experience. Highly recommend as a break from skiing...but don't underestimate the physical exertion of swinging a "tool" (aka ice axe in our layman's imagination)!

GREAT TRIP with Joel, the lead guide to an out-of-the-way spot to do some climbing on a frozen waterfall. We came to Whitefish to Ski for 3 days and on a whim added on a fourth day of ice climbing. We went about an hour West of town to a hidden waterfall and did toprope laps with Joel who is an excellent guide and teacher. One party member had prior experience, the other had zero, and we both had a great time.

Highly recommend adding this on to your next trip to Whitefish.

Booked last minute and they were able to accommodate us and pair us with another group of two. Stefan (the guide) did an excellent job adapting to the changing conditions, and getting everyone involved in the setup process. Taking the time to educate us on knots and rigging practices. This was my second adventure with WVA and I would highly recommend them to anyone.
