Great area to hike and some people were also mountain biking it. Plenty of room to park. The trail is fairly flat. The return trail goes along the river. Beautiful views. I did see one person fishing in the river as well. They did spot grizzly bears in the area in July and August.

Another beautiful hike in the Red Lodge area. We did Silver Run #1. Not too difficult for us. Still some elevation climb. Signage a little difficult in one area.but able to ask another hiker whiich way to go.

We really enjoyed walking this trail. It took us 2 hours to do the loop at an easy pace. The terrain was rocky and uneven in places. There were no significant incline or obstacles. Creek crossings had bridges except for two. For these two creek crossings we had to walk across fallen trees but it was fine as long as you pay attention. We did not encounter any wildlife. We did encounter a few mt bikers and a jogger. We plan to go back and do more.

This trail is great for your daily constitional, gets you off the pavement, and will give you the chance to meet interesting local folk who use it frequently. Say, "Hi, how ya doing'" and pause for a chat. Tell them you're from out of town and ask about the trail and where you should go next.

The Silver Run trails are good for cross-country skiing in the winter, but great for trail running in the summer as well. The grade is moderate and footing is generally good, although there are a few rocky sections here and there. Runners should be aware that this area can host moose and bears from spring to fall. Carry bear pepper spray, make plenty of noise, especially if you run alone.
