If you're going to compare this to other Rocky Mt resorts you will be very disappointed. If you compare this to mid-west hills you will be pretty happy. If you compare this to east coast hills you will be "meh, not what I expected the rockies to offer". So with that said and your expectations adjusted lets talk about the mountain itself. Several nice long on-piste groomers, some nice hidden tree runs that get run out fairly quickly and a couple runs for your newbies and kids but not much to offer for the true beginner. That said the mountain and terrain gets a passing grade of a C. Now for the amenities and lodge/ food etc.. I was almost shocked at the lack of a comfortable place to take a break. The lodge is tiny and dated with one dirty bathroom for the entire resort! The food is a typical cafeteria style with limited options and poor quality. There was a mexican option in a yurt that was even a worse option than the typical hot water burgers and fries drenched in canned cheese. The trip up to the hill is long and windy, the parking is below grade, the rental shop had 5 to 6 yr old skies but were fairly efficient given the amount of people. The people however were great and friendly. The town and stay and eat options are limited and most fall below standard other than a few select places. Do yourself a favor and review everything or ask someone whom has been before you blindly chose your destination for a room or food. In closing; I will return in summer but I will question driving 500 miles again to visit the ski resort unless some major improvements are announced. Oh I forgot lift! They still get you up the hill in 50 yr old double chairs and the main chair is a triple that you sit on for 15 minutes! Wow..

My wife who came to watch us snowboard , saved us a table to eat in the self seating restaurant here.. She sat there for. About 20 minutes ordered a few drinks. Until myself and two young boys and service animal joined. I sat down ordered a beer, 10 minutes later, we were asked to leave so they can turn tables. She brought people who were waiting on a table to our table to stand over us while we we’re essentially kicked out. I was not able to finish my drink, was flustered because were being rushed and I had recently ordered and was about to order more upon returning from the restroom.. Instead, I came back and strangers were standing at my table. Very grim employees work here.. we will not be returning here.

Many reviews about Red Lodge Mountain Resort are spot on. The lifts are old, the mountain is great, etc. I agree. If this place upgraded their lifts it would be super. The good news is that with the oldest lifts I have been on in about 45 years, the lines where never long, if any so I got quality skiing in on some cool runs. 25k+ vertical feet on back to back days. Most runs are over a mile. I did manage to pull one off that was 2.5 miles by staring at the highest peak. 9300 feet up and descending to the lowest lift which is Paradice in the palisades. Palisades is not always open. They don't have the snow of the resorts to the west. But I will say we had AWESOME spring skiing in March.
I will go again because of the resort, and Red Lodge the town it pretty neat

Love coming here to ski. My husband and I are what they call “Super Seniors” (over 70) we’ve been skiing for over 50 years and since moving West from the east coast have been coming here to ski every winter. It’s great for all ages and skills. Our granddaughter and here husband come to ski with us and they love it too. The area has good restaurants and other things to do.

Red Lodge truly is my home away from home. It's our number one vacation spot, summer or winter. I've been snowboarding for 10 years and have been all over MT and into SD and nowhere compares. We always come back to Red Lodge. It's a very homey town-mountain with happy, down to earth people. Red Lodge is by far my most favorite mountain I've ever snowboarded.
This year I decided to learn to ski with my 3 and 5 year old. I was apprehensive to learn a new skill at a late age but it went great. My instructors name was Francisco and like everyone you meet on the mountain he was friendly, funny, personable, and, importantly, efficient at teaching me to ski. Before the end of the two hours I was on the lift to Miami run. Great experience!
My husband and I have always referred to Red Lodge as our happiest most favorite place on earth and we can't wait to share this feeling in the coming years with our kids!

Unsafe ski resort - stay away. I watched an entire chair fall of the lift today as two people were boarding. Luckily no one was hurt. The lift should have been closed for a safety inspection (duh!) after something like this happened. They re-attached the chair and started running it again right away. What would have happened if it came off when the people were 30 feet up in the air? It was really creepy to watch.

This place is very expensive for how small it is. Parking was horrible as we had to park 2 miles down the road and ride a trailer to the top. Other customers were rude and trashy. I’d drive a long ways to avoid coming here again.

Took a ride up the mountain in June. It ended up being one of the highlights of our trip! We pulled over and parked (after decsending and finding a great view), No one was up there, it was so quiet and smell of pine was incredible. We sat and listened to birds chirping and nothing else, it was heaven and the view was amazing.

We loved exploring the lovely, charming and friendly town of Red Lodge. As a bonus we learned that the Highway had reopened after an early season snow storm, so we drove it to the scenic Vista. Spectacular views from every switch back, view point and turn in the rid. Beautiful mountain, and pretty streams in the meadow, too.

First time to this great smaller, more 'mom and pop' ski hill. Really friendly and helpful staff. Great terrain. Lodge and amenities are all you'll need. Lifts are older, but function great. They accept the Indy Pass which made our skiing week even more affordable. And the town...is a must see.

Does anyone know if the wildflowers are blooming on the ski mountain yet?

Can you cross country ski there n snow shoes I would like to know thinking about coming up this weekend with some family
Written March 1, 2018
There is no cross-country skiing at the mountain but there's a great nordic center in town. Stop by Sylvan Peak on Broadway in town for more information.

Thinking of bringing a 6 year old here. She has gone skiing 5 times times. (Minnesota). Would she be ok here or would we be better off in Colorado? How aggressive are the intermediate trails?
Written February 14, 2018
I would say she would be good. Saw quite a few kids on the learner's hill. I'm an occasional (once every 5 years) skier and was fine on the intermediates I took.

How did you get from town up to the ski area? Did you drive your own vehicle?
Written August 15, 2016
Yes. 10 minutes! Great parking and ski drop off area!

Hi mw-skier. I'm curious about your review. I've skied Red Lodge Mountain a few times each year for the past 6+ years, and I've never know them to groom every open run. As a matter of fact, the snow report on their website shows the runs that have been groomed each day, and it lists a number of un-groomed runs. Are you certain there was no un-groomed terrain for you to enjoy the 1"-2" of new snow that fell while you were there?
Written February 18, 2016
I went for 2 days....they did not groom all runs...mostly green trails...but it did not appear all those were groomed on day 2 either...still had good time...good variety of trails
