The Pioneer Village outside of main building is comprised of 42 original moved in, recreated, and display buildings covering the period of 1890 through the 1960s. Also site of Montana's Outdoor Sculpture Gallery, specializing in whimsical and artistic renderings using mostly discarded and repurposed items.

Don't drive through or near Polson without visiting this museum. It's a one of a kind museum displaying everything you knew or used as a child and everything you didn't know. Don't set aside less than an hour for the museum and if there is a collector in your group you may need to leave him or her for several hours. It's that fascinating. I've been there at least ten times over the years and will go again. There is always something new and things I missed the times before. Meet the owner, Gil, while there. He's 78 years old, been collecting since he was three and so far has had information and a story about every item in his museum. How many items? Don't know but well over 20,000 I'm sure.

Almost drove by without stopping. What a mistake that would have been. We only had about an hour but could have stayed much longer. It was a museum unlike we had ever seen because of the variety and uniqueness. The largest collection of “stuff” we have ever seen. From motorcycles to trapper huts to a train! Was lucky enough to meet the owner on our way out to hear about how it was all collected. Fun!

This place is truly unbelievable. I visited here with my parents and four kids ages 6-13. We all loved it. We are on a 6 week RV trip from Florida. We are four weeks in and this may be our favorite stop yet. And we just happened upon it on our way to Glacier.

You could honestly spend several days here there is so much stuff. My 9-year old said it’s the best museum he’s ever been to. There is a lot of interactive stuff for the kids and they were never bored. They’d actually now like me to purchase an old helicopter to put in our backyard because I couldn’t tear them away from the one here!

This place has everything from old toys, World War 2 memorabilia, cars, motorcycles, stuffed animal heads, General Store, instruments, helicopters, and that’s like 0.005% of what’s here.

I would come to Montana just to come to this museum. It’s that impressive!

It is not diverse. The owner is 100% racist. The Native American artifacts are not displayed in a prideful way but as savages. I noticed the same about the African American display. Horrible. I talked to a young woman who seemed to care, but her grandfather won't change anything and her words nit mine "Is not culturally sensitive "

Horrifying display of African American history. Displayed with no warning, information, and no explanation of the maltreatment and enslavement of African Americans. I witnessed the owner tell an African American lady if she didn’t like the display, she’d have to pay to get it changed. And that “ this country treated black people better than any other country, and “civilized” them. Disgusting racist owner, don’t waste your money on this horrifying display of complicit racism.

I really wanted to love this place. But it really looks like they need to have a good estate sale. Buildings are really junked up and it’s hard to see the true focus. They were having a living history day. The school teacher and flint knapper were the best. Paint and decluttering would go a long way.

Unexpected huge collection, full of history to learn and discover. We planned this as a brief stop on the way to Missoula airport after a week in Glacier National Park. That brief stop became one hour because we had to catch a flight. That one hour barely allowed us to see the entire site. The collection there is probably good to fill 5 different museums!

Don't miss this museum if you are visiting Flathead Lake or Glacier National Park.

This place looks kind of unusual from the outside but what an amazing collection of American history! And it’s so deceiving in looks....there is waaaayyy more stuff in the building and behind the building in the collection of buildings..some made to reflect an old town.

This is a great, extensive and eclectic collection of history. Something for everyone!Loved hearing some of the background information about the collection from the woman in the front office. Really brought it to life and demonstrated the labor of love the collection is.

What an incredible treasure chest of American history, memorabilia and folk art! The founders and owners, Gil and Joanne Mangles, have done an amazing job curating a collection that spans the years and subjects. You could spend days here and not see it all. So worth it!
