Where to start? We went in and were given instructions about how things worked (pick your gravel). Headed down to the area where you actually search. Willow asked first thing if we had ever done this before. So, after getting our response, she explained what we needed to do. She came back to check on us a few times, but was around if we had questions. The tools needed to go through your bag of stuff is all provided. We did a "Gem Krazy" bag, another gem bag (I can't remember what it was called). Then I went back and go a sapphire bag and a copper bag. There was a lot to find in all the bags. With the sapphire bag, when we were all done (and having found no sapphires), Willow offered to go thru our dirt to make sure we didn't miss and sapphires. In case you're wondering, we did miss some - ok, all of them! But, after seeing what Willow was looking for, we found a few ourselves with TONS of encouragement! I can not express how much I would recommend this place. Friendly (got directions to Granite ghost town). Helpful - weighed our gems for us and gave us the opportunity to decide if we wanted our sapphires turned into jewelry. 10/10 would do again!

We didn’t make reservations for the mine in time so thought this would be the next best thing. Wrong! It was the best thing! The kids loved it and are still looking and admiring their crystals😉. We found several decent sapphires. A good time. The staff was supper friendly! Thanks.

This was great. Drove from VA to go to Gem Mountain across the street. Had reservations and verbal confirmation and email. Got there and said was closed- no I’m sorry, no call, no email. I was in tears this was our planned vacation for 6 months for our 20th anniversary. A woman was standing outside of MONTANA GEMS and suggested we come look there. What a great experience. I’m so glad the Gem Mtn was closed. It was fun, we found 1 sapphire 3.54 karats and another over 1 and several smaller flawless weighting over 17 karats plus a dozen others that had a few flaws. The helpers in the panning area were outstanding and funny and very knowledgeable. The owners/managers were just great. If ever in MT I would 100% suggest this stop. And bonus, you can bring your dogs.

The crew working were very knowledgeable and very pleasant. The gems we found were spectacular! The staff also went through the tailings following our gem search to ensure we didn’t miss any gems. An outstanding place to visit to get an introduction into gems and rockhounding.

This is the ONLY place that you can get the crazy gems pack (kids pack) and boy oh boy it kept my 10 and 6!year old busy for 5 hours. We bought them each a bag and they sluiced right along with us. The kids pack is filled with a variety of EASY TO SPOT large stones and fossils. Our kids were so excited with all of their finds. My 10 year old even found a 2 carat sapphire in his mix! We soon found out that NO OTHER PLACE HAS this (it’s trademarked)!!So if you go to other mines grab a bag here for the kids to take with you! It will make every mine more enjoyable! On our way back home we stopped back by to grab a few bags for the road. Anna was kind enough to print me out some rock bingo cards to take home. We are even having them cut a few stones for us ($20 + $10 shipping) which was the best price we found so far! Great first and last stop! My husband found a 3.5 carat sapphire and over 17 carats of cuttable sapphires (in one bag) we have already cracked open a kid bag with the cousins!
