I really thought we'd see more wildlife but Mule deer, butterflies, hummingbirds, and cows were it for me. Nonetheless a really scenic place. Dirt roads. Changing terrain. Streams, Missouri River. Hiking. Quiet! Loved it.

Going East out of Helena you have the forest and the Missouri River. It is a really nice drive. Montana is full of great vistas.

We were advised we would see all kinds of wildlife. Unfortunately, we saw no wildlife except a squirrel. We had four of those in our backyard all winter in Ohio. It was a disappointing experience.

This national forest, not unlike many others in the west, has lots of dead trees scattered about. Just waiting for the next lightning strike to start an inferno. The forest is desperate need of active forest management to thin out the trees.

A beautiful designated area with many access points to the water. Even just to drive through its truly spectacular. Montana is really beautiful. Pics are of a water/fishing access point called Russell Gates and beautiful primitive camping is also available here.

Look at the photos of the park. The pine trees have been killed by the invasive pine beetle. This has happened all across North America. It is sad this has happened to the park. It serves as a testament to invasive species and our inability...More
