Jim is an incredible guide and knows his home waters well. Every trip I’ve taken with Jim has resulted in a fun and successful fishing trip. His attention to detail is an added bonus. I highly recommend fishing with this talented outfitter!

Jim Mitchell is a great Tenkara Guide & teacher! We fished 2 days using Tenkara rods, 1-day wading on the Blackfoot River and 1-day float trip on the Bitterroot River. My wife and I had a blast. Jim put us on lots of good fish and we had a great time with him as our guide. We will be back to fish more days next time!

Spent an afternoon on the river with Jim. This man is knowledgeable about his surroundings and what he does. And....he's a fabulous cook! We took the leisure float with the meal riverside. Table set up, salmon, bacon wrapped asparagus, even steak and baker for my hubby who doesn't eat fish. Definitely the best way to end or trip. I highly encourage everyone to do this, at least once! Of course they also do fishing floats or if it's hunting season, they're is no other outfitter around! Thanks to Montana Hunting and Fishing Adventures, for a great anniversary!

I almost hesitate to write this review because I don't want Montana Hunting and Fishing Adventures to get too busy and not be available when I want to be toted around the beautiful Montana rivers! Every single experience I have had with this company has been Top Notch. From guiding, fishing, catching, teaching, and sharing the excitement of seeing a big Bull Trout try to eat our White Fish, to the healthy riverside luncheon, and the peace and calm of the confident and successful guides.
One of my favorite things about the location of this establishment is Bonnie's Fly Shop. Bonnie is a hoot, to say the least, and she has outfitted the fly shop with the most creative items ---- many geared for women. It is about time. Go Bonnie!
Looking forward to next year to see these good hearted folks and enjoy another season on their rivers.

I recently had the chance to take a river tour of the Bitterroot River with our guide Jim Mitchell. It was a great experience from the time Jim picked us up at our lodging until he dropped us back off. He came fully prepared with everything we needed including our food, which we cooked out on the banks of the river midway through the trip, and made sure every detail of the afternoon was perfect. He was exceptionally knowledgeable about the history of the river, the Bitterroot Valley, and Montana in general, and our tour was both insightful and relaxing. I had a great time and will be booking a fly fishing tour with Jim in the future.

Just returned from 4 days of floating the Missouri out of Craig, MT with Jim Mitchell of Montana Hunting & Fishing Adventures. Jim is the quintessential guide: client-centered, patient, affirming, optimistic and good humored, incredibly knowledgeable, confident, and the hardest working guide I have ever fished with. I began our adventure being very intimidated by fishing big water, and after my time with Jim, I felt I was a much more confident and successful fisherman. Jim is extraordinarily sensitive to his client's skill level and needs as a fly fisherman, and his patient, attentive manner, tempered with his active sense of humor and non-intrusive instructional style, make him a delight to be with for long days on the river. I would recommend Jim to anyone, and I hope to fish Montana again with him in the near future.
Jim Mitchell is a credit to his craft and profession, and a great ambassador to Montana's fly fishing industry. He is simply superlative!

What an indescribable day we recently spent on a float trip on the West Fork River in Hamilton, Montana! My husband and I enjoyed a delightful afternoon with another couple meandering through some of the most peaceful, gorgeous scenery! We were in two river rafts with Jim and Dale who pointed out various wildlife and other points of interest as we gently travelled downstream.
We saw a doe, who was very protective of her fawn, and checked us out before bounding across the river to reach her little one. Many birds were pointed out that are not native to where we live.
But the highlight had to be the incredible meal prepared and served to us in the middle of the river!!! (We stopped on an island!) Tables were set, with table cloths, and a magnificent meal, and appetizers, were served in the most beautiful of all restaurants - the great outdoors! Some of the items on the menu were cold shrimp, various cheeses and crackers, fruit kabobs, salmon, venison, asparagus wrapped in bacon, salads, french bread, and for dessert - huckleberry pie topped with ice cream! The four of us will never forget this experience!
Many thanks to Jim Mitchell, and his associate, Dale, for making this a once in a lifetime adventure!!

I have wanted to fly fish Montana for 40 years. This year I finally did. After looking at the Madison and talking with both outfitters, I chose Jim Mitchell and I'm very glad I did. It started with his wife, Bonnie, explaining their services and taking care of everything. She offered me two ways to fly fish, Western Style or Tenkara. I chose Tenkara and am very glad I did. It's easy to learn and lots of fun. When I arrived both Bonnie and Jim made me feel like family. I was offered rafting or wading or both, I chose both, but rafting was my favorite. Jim made learning Tenkara easy and fun. Right off he had me on fish. Every detail was taken care of from beginning to end. Plus Jim is a really nice guy. Easy to spend the day with. I'll be back.
