My husband and I scheduled sunrise a tour with Lamar Valley Touring. Communication was easy and clear. We really wanted to see wolves and learn more about them. We met Claire, our guide at 6:15 AM and proceeded immediately to a hillside from which we could see the "rendevouz point". Claire set up two spotting scopes where we could see the wolves starting to wake up. She has been watching these wolves for over 3 years and was a wealth of information about the pack, their history and habits. We saw 17 wolves wake up, start howling and meet up with others from the pack. They were far enough away that we would never have found them on our own, but with the spotting scopes, we could see all of the action. We also saw and learned a lot about the habits of other animals in the park as well as history and geology that greatly increased our understanding of Yellowstone. On the rest of our stay we saw things we wouldn't have noticed before our tour and had a greater understanding of what we did see. We plan to hire Lamar Valley Touring again on our next trip and recommend it to anyone interested in learning more in depth about the park and it's inhabitants.

We had a great experience with Lamar Valley Touring starting in May 2021 and finishing in August 2021. In May my wife and I started a full day tour with Audra to see wolves which was our primary objective. I am an experienced hobby photographer of Yellowstone wildlife, but had never seen a wolf in Yellowstone until this May with Lamar ValleyTouring. I elected to go with an experienced tour guide to maximize our chances of seeing wolves. It is also very nice to enjoy seeing wildlife by having a tour guide do the driving. Audra was very knowledgeable and communicates by transceiver with other wolf watchers to zero in on any wolves as soon as possible. On the way to Yellowstone, we saw two cow moose and a mountain goat. Shortly after reaching Lamar Valley from Silver Gate, Montana, Audra found two wolves for us to see through her spotting scope. However, it started raining heavily and we were forced to end the tour after two hours. As part of the tour we had some delicious breakfast snacks and Audra also gave us the sandwiches she had for our lunch. Audra rescheduled the rest of the tour to August when we were able to get lodging in Silver Gate.
On August 1st at 5 AM we started the rest of our tour with Claire Lacey, a recent graduate in Wildlife Ecology from Montana State University. Claire was very knowledgeable of all Yellowstone wildlife and especially wolves. Claire had learned a great deal from Rick McIntyre, the retired NPS wolf expert who lives in Silver Gate and studies wolves every day in Lamar Valley. Claire first checked the Junction Butte wolf pack den site at Slough Creek, but found that the wolves had moved with most of their pups to their rendezvous site in Lamar Valley overnight. Relocating to Lamar Valley, Claire quickly set up spotting scopes for us and we were able to see black and gray wolves about a mile away. She also took some photos of the wolves for us through her spotting scope and provided breakfast snacks. During this time Claire introduced me to Rick McIntyre, the NPS wolf expert. During the tour we also observed many bison who were in the August mating rut. We learned a lot about bison from Claire. On the way back to Silver Gate, Claire also found two mountain goats for us with her spotting scope on Barronette Peak. We had a great tour with Claire and I highly recommend both Claire and Audra of Lamar Valley Touring to see wolves and wildlife in northeast Yellowstone. This is a great option to see and learn about this area of Yellowstone and not have to worry about driving.

Yellowstone is 2.2mm acres and unless you come in through the NE entrance, it's easy to miss the Lamar Valley. There is no visitor center, none of the geothermal sites, and the place stretches on and on.

However, our sunrise trip (5:30am and 38 degrees) with Claire to see wildlife was the highlight of a 6-day trip through the park. She is so knowledgeable and easy to talk to. We saw wolves, a grizzly, pronghorn, mountain goats, and an eagle. Amazing. And, equally importantly, she introduced us to Rick McIntyre, the park's wolf ambassador. Read "American Wolf" and Rick's two books about wolves before you come to get a greater appreciation for these wonderful creatures.

I'd love to go out with Lamar Valley again tomorrow if we could. It was an experience of a lifetime. Claire is fantastic.

Lamar Valley Touring provided an incredible experience from the first phone call to follow up reading recommendations. Audra was immediately responsive and accommodating, helping create a custom tour to balance my son's and my interests. The tour itself exceeded very expectations. Our guide, Claire, was an encyclopedia of wildlife information. She was also incredibly patient over the course of eight hours answering our endless stream of questions. She was also able to expertly guide us to prime locations where we were able to see wolves, a grizzly sow and her cubs and two coyotes devouring a carcass. We truly felt like were we in a safari. It exceeded every expectation.

My husband and I recently returned from a trip to Yellowstone where we were fortunate enough to have booked a sightseeing outing with Audra Conklin, the owner of Lamar Valley Tours. Audra is a kind, outgoing person with many years of wildlife and conservation experience. She is a no nonsense, well educated, consummate professional whose mission is teaching an appreciation and respect for the beauty and majesty of nature. We went on this tour hoping to see wolves and grizzlies and were not disappointed as we saw more wolves and pups than we could count and were overwhelmed by the sight of a grizzly nursing her cubs. However, the true magic came from the impromptu hikes, discussions with rangers and other park enthusiasts, unexpected critter sightings such as an occupied osprey nest, countless birds, playful marmots, injured coyote sighting, multitudes of bison, prong horn deer and vast beautiful landscapes. Put simply, the day exceeded all expectations and the memories of our time with Audra in the park will last a lifetime. Greeted with hot coffee and a smile, we enjoyed the comfort of being escorted in a new all-terrain vehicle and treated to a delicious picnic lunch. Advice – book early as reservations for this popular attraction go quickly, stay in Silver Gate or Cooke City (we stayed at Elk Horn Lodge) on the East side of the park if possible, bring layers of warm clothes as the mornings are quite cold and have fun!

Every once in a while we are blessed and touched beyond words. On a chilly September morning, I and a couple of my friends, experienced just that. Within the first hour we were observing wolves playing in a valley… magical… This alone would have been worth the tour itself. Audra, the owner of Lamar Valley Touring took us to places of Yellowstone we never would have found ourselves. The animals she had us encounter and view, including birds, is priceless. Her professionalism, knowledge and passion for what she does was evident throughout our full day tour. If you want an experience of a lifetime, Lamar Valley Touring is your only choice. I can not wait to bring my family and have Audra wow them as she did us! Thank you… you’re incredible! Boja

We hired the Lamar Valley Touring company to take us to look for wolves and other wildlife in the Lamar Valley of Yellowstone. They did not disappoint. In fact they went above and beyond in service. The day we were suppose to go we started out and a major thunder/lightning storm hit so we had to turn back.
We were only scheduled for one night. We were willing to stay but getting a room was not easy. They made some calls and we were able to reschedule for the next day.
It was worth the wait. We got to see wolves, pups, mountain goats, and a fox. We were also very fortunate to catch a hunt. The wolves were hunting Bison. That is not an occurrence that happens often where you can watch.
Just as important was the amount of knowledge and information we learned on the wolves and other wildlife of Yellowstone. I personally would have happily paid for the tour for just that part. Our guide, Claire, was extremely personable, knowledgeable and very easy to talk too. Literally, the best 2 days of a 75 day RV trip.

I traveled to YNP in September with my husband and another couple. Our goal for the trip was to get to see some wolves! We woke up before dawn and drove to Lamar Valley to try and spot some wolves on our own. We happened to park right next to Audra with Lamar Valley Touring. She was holding a private tour and we could tell from our car that she was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about her work. She had immediately spotted some wolves in the distance and was working hard to make sure the gentleman with her had an incredible experience.
Meanwhile in our car we were still trying to navigate our not so advanced technology to try and watch the wolves. Audra was kind enough to knock on our car window and offer us an experience to look through her spotting scope to see some incredible views of the wolves in the valley. She gave everyone with me a chance to see the wolves and even adjusted the scope a few times to make sure we could get some amazing views. She truly made our trip so memorable and we are extremely thankful. If ever we return to YNP we will be sure to book through her and highly recommend her to others looking for an incredible experience!

My wife Cece and i recently spent a day touring in Yellowstone with Audra. We toured with Audra on our first trip to Yellowstone in July 2021. We began planning for our September 2022 visit in January booking our trip with her first to allow all planning to center around wildlife viewing, especially wolves.

We entered on the temporary road in from Gardiner early and had a fantastic day viewing the "Rescue Pack" and the Wapati Packs. We were able to view the entire rescue pack and later witnessed the Alpha female and Alpha male swimming across the Yellowstone River; it was a magical moment that is etched forever in our minds.

Audra is an excellent wildlife tour guide and very knowledgeable of Yellowstone park ecology. She has a passion for the park and the wildlife that permeates all of her efforts and brings a special energy to the day. She took time to assist me with the set up of a spotting scope we had purchased; it's use added to our enjoyment of the day.

We are now looking forward to another trip during the upcoming Winter months. Thank you Audra for making our trip one to remember.

As a biologist I am used to going to the field to find and observe wildlife. I could have certainly done that on my recent trip to Yellowstone. However, I choose to book a trip with Lamar Valley Touring to get the full “American Serengeti” experience and was not disappointed. One can simply drive around and find bison and pronghorn but one cannot easily find wolves, grizzly bears, moose, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, and even a badger. And one does not get the experience of understanding how precious an ecosystem Yellowstone is and how the system functions; from the tree buddies, to the migrations these animals make, to the interactions between the ungulates and the predators. This is what was provided to me by Lamar Valley Touring, an experience I am grateful to have had and one I will not forget. The tour would be the highlight of my trip to Yellowstone.

I would be remiss if I did not give a huge shout out to my guide Claudene Williams. She is a vibrant, personable, and knowledgeable young woman, who quickly showed me that this is not a job but a passion of hers. Claudene is also from South Africa, which added to my experience as we talked about Yellowstone and the true Serengeti of Africa and how each compared to the other. This put Yellowstone in to a world perspective and how truly special a place it is. I would highly recommend spending the day with Claudene if you get the chance.

If you want to truly experience Yellowstone for all its glory I highly recommend booking a trip with Lamar Valley Touring.

WOW! What an honor and a privilege that you chose my company as well as your accolades about Claudene. Coming from SA, she had the base and her commitment to studying the megafauna and ecology of Yellowstone has been impressive. I’m on the Pronghorn study for you! Thank you again for joining us when there are many choices.
