We visited this amazing, welcoming and historical town in Jan 2020, just for the day, and then returned to Havre city, and drove back to Canada. We could walk for almost 3 hrs by the Missouri river, its pedestrian historical bridge, the Fort and part of downtown. Everything very clean and looked after, very friendly and helful locals. It was great to watch very close the gueese swiming in the river and gathering together on its snowed-iced banks. Beautiful landscape from the outlook outside the town, close on hwy # 87. Ramp accesses everywuere are avilable for handicaps, and in summer this is a very busy tourist town, which is closer to Great Falls city than to Havre.

My husband and I spent a day in Fort Benton when we were visiting Great Falls. This is a wonderful historic small town with many worthwhile places to visit. This fort is largely reconstructed, but it is very accurately done. Since it was primarily a fur trade fort, the main room in the first buiding at the fort was decorated as it would have appeared at the height of the fur trading era. There were many furs around the room and other artifacts that would have been in place for trading and selling furs. This is the only fort that I have ever seen that seems to put a person in an accurate setting regarding the fur trade. Another part of the fort is devoted to a great western art gallery with some very important art in it. Nest door to the fort is another museum with many interesting western artifacts and history. It is worthwhile spending some significant time in.

We bought the package deal, admission to five museums for one price. For senior citizens this was only $8.00. In the heat of the summer ( over 90 degrees) we strongly suggest touring the pioneer town, agricultural machinery and the Fort in the morning. The two museums that are air conditioned deal with the Missouri River and are great for after lunch. The Fort had a guide attired in prairie leathers who was very informative. As far as children go I think the Fort and the pioneer town might be the most interesting.

Overpriced. $15 per person is very expensive if you just want to visit the fort. I have no interest in seeing other museums. It is ludicrous that they don't sell tickets for just the fort.

Maybe if I could fire a musket or something $15 would be worth it.

Overpriced for what you pay for. Also, why is it a two-day pass when most tourists might just come through one day. Really isn't enough to keep you busy for a day, much less two. Museums, (didn't do the Ag Museum) were small and you could breeze through them in a couple of hours. I did like the outdoor signage and the river walk. That was a great museum in and of it's self. For the rest of the museums, being a museum freak, were a disappointment. Very small. Also, not well marked. I had to back track to find the Missouri River interpretive center, they gave me an arrow pointing down the road, but the sign to the center, (off the main road) was hidden by a tree. Not good.

The fort itself is cool and worth a visit. Hopefully, they can finish restoring it with the historically correct walls. Unfortunately, once you walk around the fort and see the insides of the building, there really isn't much to do. Especially if you had kids. No hands-on displays. No muskets to fire. Nothing like that.

For the price you were allowed to go into 2 museums and galleries which were packed full of history. We enjoyed finding additional postings of history and statues along the levee walk and the views of the Missouri River. Go to the end of the walking bridge shaded with trees for a leisurely stroll over the River. We want to go back to this beautiful town. I was planning a year out so I appreciated the quick response I received from the website on details on ticket prices.

The town has done a very good job of interpreting their history, and the river walk is a beautiful way to revisit the story. Shep's monument isn't to be missed.

We made a half day trip to Fort Benton, and wished we had gone for the whole day! The Fort is worth the trip, if nothing else! We didn't have enough time to investigate everything, will be going back. There is Karl Bodner and Bob Scriver artwork that is amazing to see. Such a lot of information and very nice displays. Make sure you walk across the Missouri on the bridge and stop to see Shep. The nicest little town. Make sure you stop on your way through.
If you're lucky enough to have time a wonderful dinner, eat at the Grand Union! Superb! (I am SOOO glad we made time to eat!)
