WOW!!! Huge thanks to Maggie and Violet for leading us on an unforgettable day trip hike/climb in the “Bob.” Our goal was the 9,300 ft summit of Rocky Mountain - made it to 8,000 ft before deciding we’d had enough! They were patient and smart and made sure we enjoyed ourselves without getting overwhelmed. The scenery was breathtaking, part “Sound of Music,” part “Cliffhanger”!!! A mountain hike was a must-do for me on our recent family trip to MT and this one far exceeded my wildest dreams. Do it, you won’t be disappointed!

I attended a stock-supported backpacking trip into the Scapegoat Wilderness with Dropstone in July 2023. The group was simply amazing. Never before have I eaten so well in the backcountry! Yve, Bryn, Russ, Roy and Violet were incredible. 5 stars feels like an understatement. I would definitely recommend and most definitely would go on a trip with them again. Thanks Yve and the whole crew for an absolutely amazing experience!

I loved my Dropstone Outfitting trip: The guides were competent and caring. They were willing to meet our needs--whether to scale a mountain top or idle by the creeks edge. Horses and mules carried in our heavy gear and food. We hiked with our day packs deep into the Bob Marshall Wilderness at a pace that kept the group together and relaxed. Days started with the smell of coffee wafting from the kitchen--set up under the trees and near a creek After a hearty breakfast we were off to explore and hike. The horse/mule train passed us during the day on the way to make and welcome us to our next camp. Wildflowers, mountain views, clear-running creeks, animal sightings, and laughter made up our days. Evenings at camp started with relaxation and rest, followed by cocktails, campfire, and a glorious well-earned meal. Maggie & Yve designed the perfect trip--just challenging enough, yet still full of adventure. I returned home full of memories to last ... until the next time! (my 3rd trip with Dropstone this July)

Our 6 day, stock-supported "backpacking" adventure along the wild and beautiful Rocky Mountain Front was nothing less than spectacular! Maggie, Yve, Ali, and Eva of Dropstone Outfitting made it all possible! You won't believe how hard these ladies work to make your trip safe and enjoyable! The food was great. The wine I hold responsible for my surprising discovery that my weight remained the same after all that daily exercise!

If you want to experience an intimate connection with the great outdoors, meet new and interesting friends who share your love of nature, and stretch your legs on no-pressure hikes for some wonderfully scenic exercise, then connect with Dropstone. They will get you there, and without you having to carry more than a comfortable day pack. The abundance and variety of wildflowers was more than we expected, a feast for our senses. Our naturalist guide Eric Bergman (groundworksfarmmt.com), hired by Dropstone for this particular trip, freely shared his extensive knowledge of the flora and fauna of the area and was a wonderful element of the trip we had not expected. The scenery - well, you just won't believe it unless you see it for yourself!

This was our second trip with Dropstone Outfitting, and both have been wonderful, unforgettable experiences! My hat is off to the gals of Dropstone Outfitting!

Loved my trips with Dropstone Outfitting! I’ve done two trips with them and will be doing another this summer. Maggie and Yve and crew are superb hosts. They are incredibly professional, capable, delightful folks. We had complete confidence in them.
As a long-time backpacker, it’s such a luxury for me to have Dropstone plan the routes, the menus, the camps, and all other details. And with their well-loved mules and horses carrying the weight, you don’t get sore from lugging a heavy pack. What you do get is fresh, delicious food every meal. Such a relaxing and engaging way to spend time in the high country, surrounded by stunning peaks, wildflower meadows, crystal clear streams, and good people. Plus, I really appreciate Dropstone’s commitment to going “light on the land.” Can’t wait to do my next trip with them!

A fantastic outfitter that allows you enjoy everything the Bob Marshall has to offer while taking care of the little details that make the big difference.
The meals and sleeping quarters are only amplified by the stories as you stoke the wood stove under the stars in Montana.

As I write this, the Bob is already buried under feet of snow, but in early September, we were heading in for a grand adventure. The week-long stock-supported hiking trip into Birch Creek and Big River Meadows was my first, but probably not my last.
We had bluebird weather the first four days and scant rain after that. I figure we hiked close to 60 miles through late-summer foliage, through gorges, up and down drainages, over ridges and mountains (and back down!). We saw black bears, moose, goats, a blur of a wolf, griz tracks and an abundance of wildflowers. Maggie and Ali, and Bryn and D.D. (and Rosie and the horses and mules) took great care of us, from sun-up coffee to delicious dinners and wine and blister care. It was a memorable trip and I'm recommending Dropstone to all my hiking friends.

Thanks for the kind words. We are lucky to live in such a beautiful place and get to share it with such sporting people. Indeed! the Bob is already buried in a couple of feet of snow. Maybe we'll have another awesome wildflower year in 2020. Here's to hoping so!

This trip is for an adventurous soul wanting to experience nature at it's most beautiful while challenging oneself physically! My daughter and I were there in June 2019 and the vista spectacular, wildflowers in full bloom and delightful people to laugh and solve the world's problems with:) The hiking challenging but flexible and our trip was stock supported meaning most gear carried up and out. We had fantastic guides. Capable cowgirls Yve and Maggie running the show with other staff and luckily, a naturalist along. Food fantastic and great to have a glass of wine at the end of a perfect day. Already planning next year!

We received record amounts of rain (seven inches) on this trip, but evacuated by foot safely and were able to camp in a beautiful spot and do day hikes. The Dropstone staff is professional, caring and flexible, even when Mother Nature throws punches. This is my third trip with these outfitters and all trips have been outstanding.

Amazing to experience the Bob Marshall and the Scapegoat Wilderness areas with these competent and caring women. We got to experience the magic of the wilderness with a day pack and a warm & welcoming camp set-up each night. Maggie and Yve shared their passion for wild places and teaching others about the local flora and fauna. The food was unbelievable...most sauces and desserts being made with love from scratch. They add a bonus to each trip by bringing a specialist along...first trip was an artist and she shared how to capture the wild flowers and ridge lines that surround you. The second trip had an astounding archeologist that pointed out so many interesting artifacts I would have missed, and she explained how the plants were used for shelter, medicine, and baskets. My mom has Parkinson's and each day they had a guide in the front of the group to accommodate the faster hikers, and a guide in the back that made her feel supported during our trip. 5 star trips no question.
