Unfortunately, we could not get there. Hyalite Canyon road is CLOSED, which we did not discover until we got upmto Hyalite Reservoir. Googlemaps did not show the closure. We also wanted to see Palisade Falls, but it’s along the same route. One more thing we can’t see, I guess. But Hyalite Reservoir is beautiful. I saw another review that mentioned the detour, but once we were directed back on the main road, it was still closed, so we had to turn around.…

If you are driving out to see Palisades Falls, make sure to also take in Grotto Falls. I thought the 1.2 mile hike - one way - is more interesting, more natural, and the end result - the falls themselves - just as dramatic. Large parking lot, slight uphill path.

The trail was very nice, moderate and the falls were beautiful. So glad I went on this hike. The flowers in were in bloom which added to the hike.

We went as a family group, including a 3 year-old and her very pregnant mother. No problems at all - easy trail, even with the rain. Nice walk in the woods. I wish I'd brought my fly rod as the stream looked fishable. Road around the back side of Hyalite Reservoir is unpaved, with dust (or mud), potholes and washboard. Easily navigated in passenger car if you watch what you're doing.…
