We visited on Linda Ewert Free Day. I gave a donation, and I think the regular admission is reasonably priced at $10. I enjoyed walking through the permanent displays downstairs and discussing with my companions what the large exhibits represent. It was nice to see up-and-coming artists' works in the kids room. Good location in downtown Billings near shops and... More

We wanted to go to the Yellowstone art museum to see the Hutterites exhibition. The art display was up during the holiday season, and the museum had sporadic hours, but finally we arranged a time and a day where it worked for us to view the display. The pictures were done in black-and-white and spectacular, but the added tidbit information... More

New displays often. Very interesting way to spend a hour or two. And pretty reasonably priced. I try and go every few months.

I have to admit, I came in with very low expectations as this was "Billings, MT", not Rome, London, Vienna or Paris. I was in Billings for a "business" trip but had some time to kill, and it was just a couple blocks from my hotel. You're in Montana, so naturally the art works are going to be leaning western... It's a big place with several quite different exhibitions simultaneously as well as lots for kids. Smart curators who are working artists themselves, it's always been an incubator for the region's arts community (1,200+ artists). Been going there periodically since the late 1960's, never regretted the time spent there.

We went for Smithsonian Day. There was an exhibit of photographs of a Hutterite colony in the state. It was very interesting since I have had a connection with Hutterites in the past. There was also a very interesting exhibit on multiple pieces constructed of compressed newspapers.

Friendly folks at the front desk with helpful tips for navigating the museum. Interesting way to do an off-site auxiliary collection about a block away.

This is all a region art museum should be - friendly welcoming and showcasing the place and artists of the region. The open vault is a novel idea and really well done.

I came here on a whim as I was staying at a nearby hotel, and I really enjoyed the collection. The museum was modern and well kept, the collection presented in a logical, aesthetically pleasing manner. The museum had a variety of media, styles, and eras including some nice regional sculptures. My favorite painting was The Young Chief by J.H.... More
