In 1964, the Yellowstone Art Museum opened in the former Yellowstone County Jail, an unlikely venue for what has developed into the largest contemporary art museum in Montana. The jail, built in 1884, was a small red brick structure with a partial basement for storage...More

Love that YAM brings in such important work! Recently went to view the Miro and Basquiat works and we are so grateful that we can see these without traveling to NYC or some other major metropolitan city. The local work is amazing as well and...More

We visited this Museum by accident. The art on display and for sale were fascinating. Montana is well represented through art, displays and while we were there local artist having their items on display.

Attended the opening of the new show. This museum always seems to amaze and educate. Their curation - and feature of Montana artists is worth taking some time to spend in the new museum.

We have found museums connected to our NARM (North American reciprocal museums) membership back home. This museum had some interesting exhibits and small permanent collection. It doesn't cost much, even if you don't get in free like we did!

Hosed partly in the old county jail, the Yellowstone Art Museum pleasingly melds the historical and the modern both in its architecture and its collection. A small permanent collection on the ground floor offers an appraisal of Montana art from the frontier to the future,...More

We were there during Memorial Day weekend. The annex was closed for a private event but the special event they had upstairs in the main venue was worth the visit. If I understood their "permanent" collection correctly that wasn't for me and there wasn't much....More
